Chapter Seventy-Three: Sarah's Secret
The staircase leading to the ground didn't last long, followed by a straight passageway, wide enough for three people to pass side by side. Stan warily holds his sword behind him, holding a torch in his left hand to light the way ahead. The passage is quiet and tidy, and you can see that there were many people in and out of the place before the war, and someone must have been in charge of cleaning it. Thinking of this, Rui relaxed a little, but he was also more curious about what secrets were hidden at the end of the passage.
After a silent journey, the two have passed through the passageway, only to find themselves in a large secret room when Stan notices that the light from the torches no longer bounces back.
Stan raises his torch aloft and barely shines on the roof of the chamber. Rui starts to check the side of the wall, there are still a number of candlesticks on the wall, and Rui beckons Stan to try to light them.
As the menorah is lit one by one, Sara's secret is finally revealed to the two of them. A large blue ice crystal was placed on the table against the wall of the chamber, and around the ice crystal, there were several magic containers, and between the ice crystals and each container were connected a conduit, some of which still had some blue liquid in them. On the wall behind the desk, a sentence resembling a spell was carved into it, and the corners of each character were rounded without any frizz, apparently not carved with a weapon.
“RawtrMeXLasitaki’yaAzEReGul。 Rui walked around the table and stroked the characters on the wall. "This is a character in a spell that has its own meaning. ”
"You're going to read this?" Stan's eyes widened in surprise. "What did it say?"
"Holy water destroys all filth. Rui muttered thoughtfully, and after a long moment, he came to his senses, then turned around and looked closely at the container on the table. "This is supposed to be the ice crystals that extract the holy water, and through some kind of magic, melt it and inject some kind of magic at the same time, and when the meltwater is collected into the magic container, it has magic power and becomes holy water. ”
"Do you think this ice crystal looks familiar?" Stan reminded Rui as he said.
Rui thought for a moment, then stared at Stan with wide eyes. "You mean the blue ice floes in the swamp?"
"Yes, the first time I saw this ice crystal, I thought of the ice floe, and you've probably been jumping around on these ice blocks every day since you were a kid, so you've seen numbness. Stan laughs, poking his finger at the ice crystals.
"You're right, in this case, those ice floes are not ordinary ice cubes made of water, but some kind of special liquid that can conduct mana, no wonder it is so blue. Rui pulled out his dagger and cut a small piece from the ice crystal, placed it in one of the metal containers, and hung it on his belt. "Maybe there's something to be found out of that. ”
Stan and Rui walked around the chamber twice, carefully examining every detail, but apart from the utensils used to refine the holy water, there were only a few messy books and various magic containers piled together.
Rui casually flipped through some books, then shook his head in disappointment. "It's just novels to pass the time, and time doesn't allow you to go through every page of these books. ”
"I don't think the mage named Manfred would have written down recipes in books, something so important that I would only remember in my head. Stan checks a few books for Rui as well, and then throws them aside in frustration.
"Well, that makes sense. Rui gave up looking at the rest of the book, leaning back on the edge of the table and thinking about something.
At this moment, a nameless sense of oppression hit and interrupted Rui's thoughts. "Dark Tide!"
Stan had just sat down in a chair to rest for a moment when he heard Rui say this, and immediately stood up, "Where? in Asgard?"
"It's hard to say, let's hurry up and meet up with Barsorem, outside, I can feel more accurate. After Rui finished speaking, he began to extinguish the candlestick on the wall.
After Stan extinguishes all the candlesticks together, the two walk back to their previous room. Rui recited the incantation, and the entrance was resealed, and Stan straightened Ferro to the entrance, who had fallen to the ground, before saluting the dead knight.
The two of them ran all the way out of the castle, and it was already dusk, and the sky was covered with a cloud of tiles. Barthorem and his companions were already waiting at the gate of the castle, and when they saw Ray and Stan hurrying towards them, all four of them immediately drew their swords and looked in the direction of the castle.
Rui waved his hand to signal them not to be nervous. "There's no danger here, it's outside the city, and it's coming here. ”
"What is the danger, the Grey Tide?" asked Cremens nervously.
"Yes. Rui closed his eyes and carefully felt the situation around him, and under the strange gaze of the four warriors, the mage opened his eyes. "It's the Dark Tide, coming here from four directions in Asgard, and there's a demon in each direction. ”
The news was enough for everyone present to make them despair.
"How is that possible? have we been discovered?" said Tirin, pacing back and forth anxiously. "Four demons, what are we going to do?"
Barthorem put away his sword and looked at the ruins around him. "I don't think so, Asgard is so big, these demons are probably just here to find the remnants of humanity and holy water, I even think they come once a day at this time of day to wipe out any of the survivors. ”
"Shall we find a place to hide and wait for them to leave?" said Tirin, standing still, looking at Basorem.
Rui nodded. "It's possible, it's risky, but there's no better way for us to run out of the city now. ”
Cremens gestured to the castle ahead. "How about hiding in a castle?"
Stan looks down the hallway facing the castle gate. "I'm afraid not, it's too dark in the castle, and it's likely to be the main search range of the demons, and once there is a conflict, we can't see each other at all. ”
Basorem pointed to what was supposed to be a market. "There's a good view so we can watch the tide, and the market is surrounded by streets, which makes it easier to escape if we really need to. ”
"Well, now that you've decided, let's get over it. Tirin didn't say anything more, and led the way to the market.
"This guy is just moving faster than thinking. Basorem smiled helplessly and motioned for everyone to follow.
When the crowd ran into the market, they found that the scene was cruel and beyond their expectations. The central plaza was littered with corpses, the height of a room, and the layers were so stacked that they were no longer recognizable. At the edge of the square, there were countless spears, each nailed to a soldier of Sarah, and the ground was covered with snow stained red with blood.
The warriors were shocked by the horror before them, and Tirin angrily drew his sword and slashed several spears, swinging his sword furiously and violently.
Barsorem clenched his fists in pain. "Endman, hold him, we don't have time. ”
Endman silently hugs Tirin, and Stan snatches the sword from him. And Cremens and Rui have already burst into tears.
Bathorem walked through the pile of corpses and looked towards the two barely intact rooms. "Let's divide into two teams, so that we can avoid the risk somewhat, and if one of the teams is discovered, the other team can run first on its own, and there is no need to make unnecessary sacrifices. ”
None of the others objected, waiting for Basorem's next instructions. Tirin had quieted, but his eyes were still full of anger.
The Captain of the Knight glanced at Kremence and patted him on the shoulder. "Cremens, you and Ryan and Stan go to the house over there, Endman, Tirin, you two follow me and hide in this room. Basorem pointed to a room on the other side.
"No, Basorem, let me and your squad!" Cremens stood in front of Basorem.
"Carry out the order, soldier!" said Basorem, who did not give the young man the slightest room to maneuver.
Cremens gave an ugly salute, did not resist any more, and then walked to the house where he had been instructed.
Basorem watched Cremens' back disappear into the room, walked over to Ryan and Stan and whispered, "He'll leave it to you, he's still young, and there's a lot he hasn't experienced." ”
Stan nodded. "Don't worry, we'll take care of him. ”
Rui looked at Basorem with a little uneasiness, and in the eyes of the mage, the knight captain's explanation at this time seemed to be saying his last words. "Don't forget, Basorem, that after sending us to Talheim, you're going south to continue your life. ”
Basorem did not answer Rui's words, but looked at the dead comrades in the square, and said slowly, "Everyone has their own choices, some choices may seem meaningless to you, but in their hearts, they must be done. After saying that, the knight captain took one last look at the mage, and to Rui's confusion, a complicated look flashed in Basorem's eyes when he looked at her, and this look suddenly seemed to her as if she had seen it somewhere. Then the Captain of the Knight walked to the other side of the room without looking back, and Endman and Tillin gave a military salute to Ray and Stan, and followed him without hesitation.
"Tirling. Stan upside down raised the warrior's sword, and threw it upwards towards Tirin. Tillin turned around and grabbed his sword, nodded slightly to Stan, and turned to walk.
"Stan, I don't know if I'm going to stop them, I can't bear to see the few of my people die in front of me. Rui's eyes were melancholy and sad, and his tone was full of helplessness.
Stan gives a deep military salute to the warriors' backs. "Rui, I know you may not understand, but sometimes a man's determination is irreparable by any means, so let them do what they want. ”
Tears began to fill the mage's eyes, and everything in front of Rui's eyes began to blur.
