Chapter 20: The Twilight Cult
"There are so many people here, but they are all so vulnerable. A mage dressed in a black and gray mage robe walked up to the crowd. "I wanted to leave here quietly without attracting attention, but now it seems that I have to leave early. β
Rui stopped casting the spell and looked at the mage in front of him alertly, and the other four figures gradually appeared.
"Ness!" Fern looked up and saw Ness, who was being held hostage by two mages, and the girl looked at Fern in horror, her mouth open but unable to make a sound.
"Ness!" Fern shouted, struggling to his feet and rushing over.
"Do you want to die so much?" the black-robed mage who took the lead raised his hand, and a fireball formed in his hand.
Ignoring the damage inflicted on him by Rui's dark magic, Fern drew his sword in the stone and rushed towards the fireball. At the last moment, Morena's back appeared in front of Ferne's eyes, forcing him to stop his progress.
"Get out of the way, Jaminene!" Fern shouted.
Jasmina didn't look back, staring at the mage in front of her. "Your death doesn't help Nessy at all. β
The archmage's words made the brute force in Fern's body disappear in an instant, and the influence of dark magic invaded his brain again, and the mercenary fell again.
"It's been a long time since I've seen you, but I didn't expect to see you again in this way. The mage said lightly, and the fireball in his hand disappeared.
"Horatio, it's really you, I didn't expect you to join the ......" Jasmine recognized the other party, and when she saw the black and gray mage robe on the other party's body, she was shocked and speechless.
"That's right. The black-robed mage looked at the other two mages behind Jaresina. "That's it for today, I don't want to bother too much, I've got what I want, and now we're going to get out of here. With that, the mage turned.
"Wait!" Jasmina called out to him.
The black-robed mage's back paused, his face turning slightly to the left. "What? Do you think you can stop me?"
"Why are you arresting her, where are you going to take her?" said Morena looked at the other person's back with a solemn face.
The black-robed mage sneered twice. "Don't you know the secrets she hides, and why does Etiyesh take so much pains to track her down and try to get her back to the Mage Tower, just so that she can study high-level magic to deal with the Dark Lord?"
Jarena's eyes widened suddenly, and even her tone no longer sounded like her voice. "What the hell do you mean, you weren't sent by Etiyès?"
"No matter how bold Etiyesh is, he won't dare to ...... with Twilight," the black-robed mage's body shook with a sneer. "For the sake of the past...... I'll tell you, I'll take this girl to Serendra, and you can take them there to find me, but you'd better find the artifact before you come back. β
"What's the use of asking for a Hallow, you should know that no one can destroy it except the Dark Lord. Jasmina gave a quick glance at the frightened Ness, and the girl's eyes stared blankly ahead.
"I didn't say I was going to destroy it, you really don't know anything, so why are you going to protect Wallis?" the black-robed man laughed loudly. "Remember, come back with the Hallows Artifact. β
The four black-robed mages walked farther and farther away with Niss, and Morena silently watched their backs disappear from sight, standing still. Fern tried to rush several times, but was knocked to the ground by Ray's dark magic, and he pounded the ground in pain, but could not do anything. The fire grew bigger and bigger, and the whole house was in flames, and there were wounded knights lying around the room, and Stan still passed out on the ground, moaning incessantly.
The supporting guards finally arrived, and they looked at the scene in shock, not knowing what to do for a while.
Morena gave them orders in place of Magill. "Send these knights back, and I'll treat them later, and then put out the fire. β
The guards looked at Magir, who was half-lying on the ground, and the knight nodded bitterly, and the guards immediately saluted to Jalena and began to rescue.
"By the way...... "Jasmine" instructed the last few guards, "there are four knights in the back of the room. β
"Do you want to bring them back to heal your wounds?" the guard put his sword back into its scabbard.
"No need, they're dead. Jalena said lightly, "Bury them properly." β
The guard froze for several seconds before he came to his senses. "Good...... Good. "Run quickly to the back of the house.
Jasmina sighed deeply, turned around, and picked up Fern, who had fallen to the ground, and the mercenary's face was decadent, and his whole body seemed to have lost support. "Go back, Fern, and that's all for today. β
Fern let out a whimper of pain in his throat, his eyelashes already wet with tears.
The wounded were laid flat on the floor in the hall, and the three mages were treating their burns, except for Stan and Magill, the other knights were not too badly injured because of the shield protection cast by Jarena, but Jarena was still surprised that the fire magic of the area attack was able to penetrate her shield.
Stan had woken up, Nerfi was treating him, he and Magill were more seriously injured, but still much luckier than the knights who were completely unprotected behind the house, and Stan sighed when he learned that the four knights had died of their injuries, wondering how he was still alive.
Jasmina snorted softly, glancing at Nerfi, who was focused on treating Stan. "If it weren't for her selfishness, I'm afraid you and Magill would have died. β
"Selfish?" Stan looked at Nerfi in confusion, the girl blushing and pursing her lips.
Rui had just finished treating a knight and walked over to the two of them and sat down to rest. "When you ran over and grabbed Magir, Nerfi quietly cast a shield in front of you, but unexpectedly, it just blocked the fireball that crashed into you, so the fireball exploded in front of you, and didn't hit you directly, otherwise you would have been scorched. β
Stan's mouth can't close in surprise, and he stutters as he looks at Nerfi, who has his head down. "Thank you...... Thanks, Nerfi. β
Nerfi looked at her hands wrapped in a soft glow, but remained silent.
Jasmine had finished her treatment of Magill, and the knight nodded to the archmage in thanks, then sat down on the ground without smiling.
Manfred coughed twice, drawing everyone's attention, and began to ask Morena. "You said those mages were wearing black robes, and Horatio was among them?"
"Yes, the black-gray mage robes, the power of fire magic is so powerful that my shield is easily broken. Jamina stood dignifiedly. "Horatio seems to be their head. β
"It's not a good sign that they show up, they only show up at certain times. Manfred shook his head, his eyes clouded with his normally quiet and peaceful eyes.
"Who are they? weren't they sent by the Mage Tower?" Stan looked at the Grand Sage in confusion.
Manfred is deep in thought, and Jasmine answers Stan on his behalf. "They were also mages of the Mage Tower, but they believed that Wallis would eventually be destroyed by the Dark Lord, or rather, in their opinion, ruled by the Dark Lord, so they turned their backs on the Seven Gods, sold their souls, and began to work for the Dark Lord, hoping to receive his forgiveness when the Dark Lord came, so that they would have infinite power and endless life. β
"So they're another force besides the Mage Tower, and who is their ruler?" Stan glanced worriedly at Fern leaning back in his chair, who hadn't said a word since returning to the castle.
Jasmina found the nearest chair to sit down, and glanced unnaturally at the crowd. "Their rulers...... I can't confirm yet, but the Lord of the Dark will personally enter the dreams of those high-ranking followers and talk to them individually as needed, telling them what needs to be done in the dreams, so it can also be said that the Lord of the Dark is their ruler. β
"Hell, why are there all these scum among the human race!" Magir said angrily, his fierce face looking even more hideous.
"This is normal, not everyone can resist the temptation of the dark lord, infinite power, endless life, don't you want to have it?"
Magir replied righteously, "This is a matter of principle, and it must not be violated, and I would rather not have the power and life in exchange for this!"
"Remember what you said, knight, when the Lord of Darkness finds you, I hope you can still stick to your bottom line. Jasmine still looked at Magill with a blank face.
"I am a knight of Canrito, and honor is my life. Magill solemnly placed his left hand on the breastplate, and his fierce expression was reined in.
"What are these mages who have turned their backs on the Seven Gods and sold their souls for what they are called?" Stan looked at Jalena solemnly. "I mean, what do you call them?"
"The Twilight Cult, as Manfred said, in times of peace they are hidden among ordinary people, and you don't see any difference between them and the others, but when a certain time comes, they will reveal themselves and appear in Wallis, and this is the time when Wallis is shrouded in twilight. Jasmine's voice grew softer and softer, as if she was about to sink into her own thoughts.
Wallis ...... What does it mean to be shrouded in twilight?" Stan asked, as Nerfi and Rui looked at each other.
"The night of Wallis is coming, and the Lord of Darkness is coming......" Morena muttered to herself, her eyes becoming confused.
