Chapter 9: The Culprit Behind the Scenes
The swamp banshee fell to her knees with her head in pain, and repeated nervously, "I don't know, I don't know anything, please stop pushing me, I don't know anything!"
Frazier was not in a hurry, he raised his sword and plunged it into the ground, then clasped his hands together. "Since you don't say this, let's talk about something else, how did he find you, and how did you become the way you are?"
The swamp banshee's hand holding her head loosened slightly. "I had only revenge on my mind, and I was willing to do anything to get revenge, but I couldn't find any way. Those men, those women, each of them is stronger than me, how can I kill them!"
"And then?" said Fraser, altering his stance.
Then he came out of the darkness, silently, and there was a terrible aura all over his body, and I was so scared that I thought I was going to die. The swamp banshee shook her head desperately, and could see that even now she was still apprehensive about the situation. "But he asked me if I wanted to make a deal with him, he would give me great power so that I could easily kill those bastards, all I had to do was collect the mental power of those people for him before I killed. β
"Don't you ask the price of this power?"
"I was so vengeful that I couldn't care about anything until I saw myself in the water. "Tears welled up in the swamp banshee's pupilless eyes. "He said that as soon as I finished collecting mental power, he would restore me to my previous appearance, and I would no longer be this ugly appearance. β
Fraser frowned slightly. "How often does he come?"
He hadn't been seen since then, and he said he would come back in a month to take the collected mental power. The swamp banshee paused, shivering with random nervousness. "Like...... It seems like today, yes, yes, it's today!"
"Very well, then I'll wait for him to come. Fraser looked around, the flames of more than a hundred candlesticks flickering.
The swamp banshee's eyes widened in surprise. "Are you going to wait for him to come and kill you? He is not as powerful as you can imagine, and even the Demon Swordsman and Demon Hunter have no chance of winning in front of him. β
"Why did he kill me?" Fraser turned and walked back. "I wasn't going to fight him, and I wasn't going to stop him from taking this mental power, so why did he bother to kill me? He wasn't strong enough to defeat me unscathed. β
The swamp banshee sat on the ground, the man in front of her making it unpredictable. Fraser sat down beside the two witchers, pulled a loaf of bread from the package and nibbled on it. "Eat something, rest for a while, the fun is still to come. β
Amos's wound had stopped bleeding, and he calmly took out a piece of cheese and threw it into his mouth, if it weren't for the effect of the snake scale potion, he would definitely be in pain and couldn't open his mouth now. "Sounds like you know the man behind that?"
Fraser tilted his head. "If my guess is correct, I do, unless there are people I don't know who survived the Darktide War. β
"Who the hell are you?" Yurania's cold voice came out coldly. "You have the sword in the stone, and the mage has given you all his spiritual power, the monster is not vulnerable to you at all, and I didn't know that there was a person like you in the whole Wallis. β
"There's so much you don't know. Fraser nibbled on another bite of bread. "You learned a lot from Amos in terms of combat skills, he is a very good witcher, and you are quite good, but you still have to learn more from Amos in terms of how to behave as a person. β
"What are you talking about!" Yurania slammed an angry punch into Fraser's head.
Fraser caught the punch, and no matter how much Yurania struggled, he couldn't pull his hand back. "It's better not to know some things, and it's troublesome to know them. With that, he let go of his hand.
Jurania rubbed Frazier's aching fingers and glared at Frazier angrily. "You wait, I'll figure everything out sooner or later. β
Fraser looked to the other side, just in time to meet Emos's gaze, and the two smiled helplessly.
And so it went on for a long time, and not long after Amos told his companion that it was about to dawn, the candlesticks in the cave suddenly flickered and dimmed, and it was very strange in this environment of being isolated from the outside world and having no wind.
Fraser stood up, clenched the scabbard in his left hand, and shouted at the top of his voice. "Is that you, Nigel?"
The candelabra returned to calm, no one spoke, and after a few seconds of silence, a man's voice suddenly appeared in the air. "Why are you here? Are you going to stop me? I advise you not to do this, I will not show mercy to your men. β
Fraser walked slowly forward. "I'm not here to stop you, you just need to answer me a question, you can take away this spiritual power, and get out of here. β
The man paused for a moment, then said, "I know what you're asking, but I won't answer. β
"No, you don't know. Fraser stopped and looked into the air. "Do you think I've come all the way here to ask you a question you won't answer?
The man sneered. "Then ask, it's about to dawn. β
Fraser clenched his right fist, his voice sonorous and powerful. "Are you worthy of Adeline? She sacrificed herself to save us for you to do this? Don't you feel the slightest guilt?"
The man's voice remained calm. "These are three questions, but it doesn't matter, Adeline is wrong, the great sage is also human and makes mistakes, and all I do now is correct her mistakes. β
"Do you really think so, do you think so?" asked Fraser reluctantly.
"Yes, you should know me, Fernandes...... Razor. There was no rise or fall in the man's voice.
Fraser pondered for a moment, then finally sighed. "Okay, you go, take what you want, let's go. β
As soon as he finished speaking, the candlesticks in the cave flickered again, and then they were extinguished in pieces, and the cave gradually became dark. Fraser cast several balls of light that floated around the corners, maintaining the light source.
Seeing that all the candlesticks were about to be extinguished, the swamp banshee cried out in panic. "Wait...... Wait a minute, you promised to restore it for me, and now that I've collected spiritual power for you, please help me recover, please!"
Fraser shook his head unbearably, the last candlestick went out, and the man's voice came again. "Haven't you also achieved your goal, Zamisi, you are called Zassi, right, those who have committed unforgivable crimes against you have died in your hands, what are you not satisfied with? β
"What? no, please wait! you promised at the time! you will restore me to the way I was!" the swamp banshee screamed in pain, tears welling up in her eyes.
But the man's voice never came again.
"You promised...... Help me get back to what I used to be...... Young, beautiful, elegant, that's what I ......" The swamp banshee couldn't stop crying.
Emir couldn't hold back any longer, running over and kneeling beside the swamp banshee. "I'm sorry Zassy! I should have stopped you, if we left this village together, and flew away, to a place where no one could find us, it wouldn't be the way it is, it was all my fault......!
The swamp banshee looked at him silently. "The ...... of the Γmile"
Fraser watched them calmly until neither of them spoke, but wept silently, and he grabbed Emir's collar and threw it to Amos, then walked over to the swamp banshee. "He lied to you at the beginning, no magic can turn a monster back into a human, the moment you become a monster, you are destined to have only one ending, let me give you a ride and end your suffering. β
The swamp banshee nodded slightly, then covered her face and cried again, she thought of her once young and beautiful face, the girl who was as beautiful as a flower, dancing in the sea of gorgeous flowers, the breeze blowing, blowing her long pale yellow hair and floral skirt, the unique fragrance of the girl's body mixed with the fragrance of flowers, drifting into the distance, drifting farther and farther......
The sound of the sword unsheathed was short and powerful, and the sword flashed, and Fraser's sword plunged into the heart of the swamp banshee. The swamp banshee just kept her head down, fading away in the good memories.
There was a sound of footsteps at the entrance to the cavern, and Fraser was the first to step out, then turned around and pulled the next three out. Not long after dawn on the ground, the sun was still slowly rising on the horizon, and the swamp was full of life, filled with the chirping of animals. After spending almost a night underground and experiencing a harrowing tragedy, returning to the light made everyone feel reborn.
