Chapter 1: Cataclysm

Ships are flowing in and out of the harbor of Green Bay, all the docks are fully loaded, and crews and stevedores are busy everywhere. The afterglow of the setting sun sprinkled the sea, glowing with golden light, dazzling and unbearable. The evening in Green Bay was noisy and busy, and people were rushing for their livelihoods, and as usual, even the fall of Grivel did not affect the operation of the place.

The pubs not far from the harbor are bustling with people, and at this time of year, all the taverns in Green Bay are almost hard to find, and the passing crew and locals gather in the taverns to enjoy the most casual time of the day. The constant flow of visitors attracted many of the chanters to the tavern in Green Bay, and this tavern was no exception, where the bard was a middle-aged man with straight brown hair, who was immersed in his music with a harp in his hand.

Most of the patrons in the tavern were carefree listening to the music of the bard, drinking and chatting, not noticing what the two men in the corner were talking to. Judging by the look on their faces, the conversation was definitely not pleasant, and some of the customers who were close to them had apparently noticed their abnormality, but no one cared, and no one wanted to be ruined by these troubles.

One of the two, with his small eyes and narrow jaw, made him look like a shrewd businessman, and he lowered his voice again and said to the other, "Alvi, I'll tell you again, that kid Fidel must have seen something, otherwise how could he have escaped by boat overnight, and it was the most expensive ship." ”

The man named Alvi squinted at him. "I think you're thinking too much, last night at that time, only that ship was going to leave the port, it was the middle of the night, how can there be a cheap ship to choose?"

The pointed chin man's eyes widened. "But you have to know that if a beggar asks Fidel for money in front of him with a bowl of rice, he will definitely take the money from the bowl, do you think he would be willing to take such an expensive ship?"

"There's a point in what you're saying. Alvi touched his chin and groaned for a moment. "Merris, do you remember the other two who fled with Fidel, and what are they called?"

"Of course I remember that Lawson and Randall, both hunters, were hunting near Grivel the other day, and they happened to meet Fidel, who didn't know what to do there, and they fled back together. Merrismo clutched his glass and took a nervous sip of his drink.

Alvi snorted. "What did you say that Fidel guy was going to do in that ruin, digging for treasure?"

"Alright, now is not the time to do this, what are you asking those two people for?" Merris interrupted.

Alvi pursed his lips. "You don't know, they also left by boat early this morning, and they didn't bring anything but a package for each of them, and of course they also brought their weapons such as short swords and bows and arrows, and they looked like they were cornered by debt collectors. ”

"What? Why didn't you say it earlier!" Merris's voice raised considerably, attracting the attention of many people, and he looked around, the singing of the bards echoed through the tavern, and the waitress who shuttled between the tables drew attention again, and he lowered his head and whispered, "I told you Alvi, they must know something?"

"Why? what horrible thing could have made them so?" Alvey's tone was full of disdain, but his worried look betrayed him.

"Griville, it's not a peaceful place, the three of them rushed back from near Griville overnight, and then fled again, think with your head, Alvi!" Merris couldn't sit still, he stood up to leave. "I'm going to get ready, I'm going to leave tonight!"

Alvi was still a little hesitant. "Okay, what you said may have some point, but don't be in such a hurry, I think we can bring more things and ...... tomorrow morning."

Before he could finish speaking, a heart-rending scream came from the street, and even the noisy tavern could be heard clearly, and the people immediately stopped talking and stared at the door uneasily. Merris's legs were a little weaker as Alvey stood up, an ominous premonition invading him. After a few seconds, incoherent shouts rang out one after another, and it was like a pot of rotten porridge outside the tavern.

"What's going on? who's going to take a look, what are they're calling?"

The tavern keeper cautiously opened the door and looked out, and the scene in front of him made him hold on to the door so that he did not collapse to the ground. I saw more than a dozen people running past the door, covered in blood, some with their arms cut off or their legs, but they still ran forward, regardless of their own blood spilled all over the ground. The tavernkeeper heard two words from their muffled shouts. "Monster!" he looked in the direction the people were running from, and it was the east, and more people were running from there. Vaguely, he saw a cloud of dust behind them, and countless figures chasing after them with extremely unnatural movements.

The tavern owner hurriedly retreated to the door, his lips trembling for several seconds, and it took all his strength to shout. "Zombie ...... Zombie!" After speaking, he snatched the door without looking back, not even caring about his own tavern.

Most of the customers in the tavern had not yet come to their senses, and Merris ran out of the tavern without saying a word, pulling Alvi out of the tavern, and they looked to the east, and the scene in front of them made them stand still for a while. Merris was still quicker to react, pulling Alvi to flee backwards. "Hell, it's a dark tide, run, you'll die if you're late!"

"What?Aren't they in the north?" Alvi turned his head to look at Merris, who had already run a dozen paces away, so he had to follow.

The two of them arrived at the port, but it was already in chaos, and the black crowd rushed towards the boat, just to squeeze into either boat. Those who had already boarded the ship blocked the deck, preventing others from boarding, and more people pushed and shoved each other, and the sound of insults continued.

"The Dark Tide is coming!" A frightened cry erupted from the crowd behind him, and Merris looked back to see that the Dark Tide had chased to the end of the crowd, and the unarmed civilians were at the mercy of the ghouls and had no ability to resist. People fled in all directions, and many people were pushed off the pier and fell into the sea, and most of the crowd dispersed at once.

"Hell, quick, get on board!" shouted Merris, and Alvey pushed away the people in front of them who were blocking their way.

The shoving and shoving of the boat turned into a fight, and people kept falling into the water, and people drew their weapons and swords to fight for the chance to get on the boat and escape for their lives, which was their only chance. Merris and Alvi managed to get to the pier, but they saw the ship's sailors push the planks that connected the deck directly into the water. "I can't get on it, and if I get on the boat again, it will sink!"

"These demons!" Merris cursed and looked back, the ghouls at the entrance to the docks were on a killing spree, and it wouldn't be long before they were there. "What should I do?"

Alvi looked west, the sky was getting darker, the sun had completely sunk to the horizon, and a few ships had already sailed out of the dock, but many more were dragged to the shore, and the people who were struggling to squeeze into the boat were fighting with the people on board. To the east, the town was already on fire, and it was clear that the Dark Tide had taken over and was setting fire to everything that stood in their way. Alvi looked to the northernmost edge of the dock, where a nondescript dhow was docked to the shore alone, but it was so small that it could only carry about a dozen people at most, and there was not even a dedicated dock, but a wooden plank attached to the deck on the dirt floor. "Merris, there's a boat, come with me!" he said, and ran toward the boat.

Seeing the hope of escaping again, Merriston hurriedly strode to catch up with Alvi, and the two quickly ran to the side of the boat, only to know why the place was not yet full of people. The thin and narrow hull of the ship was already rotting and crumbling, and the wood was about to rot out of its holes, and there were already eight passengers on board except for one captain and two crew members, all of whom urged the captain to hurry up, but the captain seemed to want to earn more money for the journey.

"Hell, I'd rather swim and escape by myself when I go out to sea on this boat!" Merris was about to step onto the boat, but immediately retracted his foot when he saw the broken shape of the boat.

Alvi pulled him and was about to get on board. "At this time, I still have to think about it so much, if I don't go up, the ghouls will come!" As soon as he finished speaking, a nearby dock suddenly erupted in a scream, and I saw a demon jumping out of nowhere, running onto a big ship in a few steps, and killing on the deck.

Merris shuddered, and her legs went limp, and she fell to the ground. "Hell, what's that?"

The captain used the wooden stick in his hand to support his body so as not to fall. "That ship is finished, everyone on board has to die, no one can escape, that's a demon, I've heard people say in Ogden, we can't wait any longer, we have to start the boat immediately, do you two want to come up, ten gold coins per person, hurry up, give you ten seconds!"

"We're going to have ten gold coins with us!" Alvi begged, "let's get on board, we can give you everything of value." ”

The screams behind him were incessant, the sound of falling water was plopping and fluttering, the sky was almost completely dark, the sea level in the distance was extremely dark, and the captain hesitated for a few seconds. "Come on, stop talking nonsense!"

Alvi stepped onto the boat, its hull immediately rocking, and he looked back at his companion. "Come up, Merris!"

"No...... This ship will never leave the bay, and we will drown in the sea......" Merris looked up to the north. "I'm going to the Sweet Rainforest, at least I won't drown there!"

"Don't be stupid, you don't have any equipment, you will only die in the rainforest, and the dark tide will definitely chase into the rainforest. Alvi exclaimed.

As the ghouls got closer, several of them spotted the boat and were running towards it, and the captain threw the planks into the water and ordered the crew to raise the sails. "Hurry up and get out of the boat! Otherwise, when those guys come, the ship will sink, and we won't be able to escape!"

As the boat slowly left the shore, Alvi shouted to Merris, who had already decided to give up boarding, and he glanced at the people running towards it and the ghouls chasing after them, and ran north without looking back.

The screams faded away, the firelight from the shore illuminated the entire dock, the dark tide had taken over Green Bay, and the dying people were killed one by one, and then thrown into the sea until there was not a single one left alive.

Alvi was huddled in the boat, surrounded by the sound of the waves, and nothing else, still shivering from the horrific experience he had just had. The faint light of the moon shone on the surface of the sea, glowing with an eerie white shimmer, and in the moonlight several large ships sailed slowly in front of them, and the people on the deck prayed silently in the direction of Green Bay.
