Chapter 5: Morena's Scheme
In the face of Morena's explanation, Tulsa's guards did not suspect it at all, although Fern heard several flaws in the words of the ** division, but he just stood aside and watched, until the captain of the guard saluted the ** division and signaled that they could leave. The two returned to Fern's house, where the magically lit fence had burned to the ground, leaving a charred mark on the ground. "I don't think you can live here anymore, so come back to Durham with me. Jarena walked behind the mercenary and stopped outside the courtyard.
Fern stood in front of the room, hesitantly turning his head. "I promised Queen Leo Boud that I would not set foot in Durham again, and I would not break my promise. โ
Morena snorted disdainfully. "Are you really stubborn, stay here and be killed, or go to Durham, you won't make such a simple choice?"
"What will the Queen think of me if I enter Durham like this, and what will the rest of the people who know my promise think of me?" Fern shook his head, walked to the 'door' on the first floor of the room, and pulled the 'door' open. "They would call me a coward, so scared that I disobeyed what I had said. โ
Jasmina watched as Fern's back disappeared into the room, and an idea formed in her mind, and after a while the mercenary walked out with the horse in tow. "I'll go hide in other villages for a while until Stan and them leave, and I'll join them again. With that, Fern walked past the mage with the reins.
"Wait!" Morena called out to the mercenary. "Do you think the other villages are safe? Don't forget, if I hadn't come looking for you this time, I'm afraid you'd be the one lying on the ground charred right now, and maybe you'd have had to get involved. โ
"Ness, she's going to be fine, Etiesh can't kill her!" Fern still looked ahead. "I'll be careful with myself next, I was careless today, but I didn't expect Etiyesh to let me go. โ
Jarena lifted her feet and approached Fern. "I have an idea, you can go to Durham with me first, and then at the 'gate' I will send someone to report the situation here to His Majesty, and ask him to consult with the queen, so that the queen will not prevent you from entering the city. โ
Fern still shook his head. "Whatever the reason, going into town is a breach of my promise, and I won't allow myself to do that. With that, the mercenary stepped into the dark clouds and prepared to set off.
"Stop!" Jarena's eyes whimsically swirled in her eyes. "You should escort me back to Durham, in case I encounter another attack from those mages along the way?"
"Their target is me, you'll be fine. Fern glanced cautiously at the ** division.
"It was true this morning, but I killed their men, and now you're dragging me into the water, you know, Fern, you're putting me in danger. Jamina said, walking to the stake to which her mount was attached not far away.
"I'm going to drag you into the water? you're going to kill them, I don't want to hurt their 'lives' at all!" Fern shouted from behind.
Jasmine flew onto her horse and led her mount to Fern's side. "If we don't kill them, those two charred corpses will be you and me, understand, Fern?" said him, the ** division's eyes were firmly fixed on the mercenary.
Although Fern was glared at by Morena, the half-moon-shaped amber 'colored' eyes of the ** division were so 'fascinating' that he couldn't see the fierce emotions at all. "Okay, but I'll only send you to the 'gate' of the city, you don't want me to enter the city, understand, ** teacher?"
A smug smile appeared on Jaminena's lips, then she snorted softly and turned to ride in the direction of Durham, and Fern sighed helplessly and followed.
Tulsa was so close to Durham that the two men rode unhurriedly down the avenue, a steady stream of motorcades and pedestrians hurrying past them or meeting them. The fields on both sides of the avenue that were supposed to be full of fresh 'flowers' are now scattered with some hardy plum 'flowers' and moon seasons, and the other fields are covered with wild grass and soil.
"Won, walk with the 'woman', shouldn't you go and pick a 'flower' to offer to the 'woman' and praise her beauty?"
Fern glanced at Jasmine quickly, and Shi was looking at him with one side of his eyebrows raised. "I think as a ** teacher, I should have been indifferent to this kind of thing for a long time. โ
"How so?" said Morena's tone of reproach, much to Fernton's surprise. "**Shi is also a 'female' scholar, and she is also a young 'female' scholar, she will not refuse men's praise for her. โ
"There will be a lot of men who will compliment you, with your looks, I believe that they will not be bothered by this problem. Fern looked ahead again. "But I wasn't among those men. โ
"Really, I don't think I need to show mercy. Jalena seemed to be talking to herself, as if to Fern.
"What did you say?" Fern looked at the ** division in confusion.
"It's nothing, you can escort me well. Jamina said, leading her mount to Fern.
In the time that followed, Fern deliberately kept a few yards away from Morena, and Morena did not take the initiative to speak to him, and the two rode without saying a word, and after more than an hour, the walls of Durham appeared in the eyes of the two.
"Now that I'm here, it's time for me to go. Fern nodded to the guards who were saluting the ** division. "Protect your staff. Then he turned the horse's head and pulled the reins, and vaguely he saw the corners of Morena's mouth flash an imperceptible curve.
"Stop, don't try to run away!" Jarena's voice suddenly sounded. "Catch him, guard, he's Ogden's 'spy'!"
Fern looked back in surprise. "What did you say, Molina?!"
The guards were also frightened by the sudden surprise, and the three guards looked at each other at a loss, and did not immediately move.
"What are you waiting for, if he escapes, I'll ask you!" Morena's expression became stern, glaring fiercely at the three guards.
The guards did not dare to annoy the king's staff, and when Jarena yelled at him, the three of them immediately pounced on Fern. Fern cursed, slapped the dark cloud's buttocks hard, and jerked the reins with his left hand, trying to escape with the speed of the horse. But at the same time, he suddenly felt as if his hands and feet were entangled in something, and his right hand stopped in mid-air, unable to shoot down, and his feet could not pick up the back 'legs' of the dark cloud.
That's it, that's the last thought that Fern had on his horseback, and then he was ripped off the back of the cloud by the guards, who skillfully tied him up with ropes. Fern lay on the ground, unable to move, and could only stare at Jasmine, who was on her horse. Shi lifted her chin and looked at the mercenary smugly, it was clear that she had already prepared to do so in Tulsa.
"Take him to the castle, and I will inform His Majesty personally. Jasmina nodded in satisfaction, flicked the reins, and rode toward the city. "Don't 'hurt' him, I don't want to heal him before I interrogate him, and the same goes for the horse. โ
"Understood!" the guards agreed in unison, not daring to slack off.
Fern was annoyed that he had trusted Morena, but now he had nothing to do but let the guards escort him into Durham. Along the way, passers-by looked at the down-and-out mercenary curiously, speculating that he must have done something to commit a 'rape' crime, and the lively crowd blocked the road. The guards shouted impatiently. "Get out of the way, this is Ogden's 'traitor', and he is going to be taken to His Majesty the King for personal interrogation, don't get in the way. When the people heard that the king was going to interrogate them personally, they hurriedly made way for them, while still lamenting that the mercenary would not have a good time in the future.
Fern kept his head down, not knowing what to say, so he simply decided not to say anything, and was escorted to the castle under the gaze of countless pairs of eyes.
