Chapter 21: The Strange Man
Lucius slammed his sword on the other party's table, and then stepped on the chair with a domineering look. "What are you doing with us?"
The man looked at Lucius without panicking, he looked a few years younger than Lucius, maybe younger than Adeline, but his lean face and sturdy body showed that he was by no means an idle person, and Barred also saw this, standing on Lucius's other side ready to respond to any surprise attack from the other side.
Seeing that the other party did not react, and did not seem to be afraid of him, Lucius couldn't help but get angry, he pressed the scabbard with his left hand, and suddenly drew the sword with his right hand and put it in front of the man. "Who the hell are you?"
The boss and the waitress hid in the kitchen, and two bodyguard-like people walked in from the door, shouting at the three. "If you want to make trouble, go out, and if you destroy the things here, I am afraid that I will not be able to pay you if I sell them. β
Who Lucius was, not to mention the tables and chairs, he could afford to burn down the whole shop, even though it was almost the most exclusive inn in St. Sean. The tavern bodyguard's words made Lucius's fire even worse, he only felt his brain hot, and raised his sword against the table, and the sharp blade split the table in two, and the table fell to both sides with a clatter.
"Crazy!" the bodyguard cursed, drawing his dagger out of nowhere and rushing up, two fierce faces that could scare the legs of ordinary people.
But they weren't facing ordinary people, and Barred drew his sword to stand in their way. "Don't be nosy, just stay here, and we'll pay for this table, otherwise I can't guarantee your life. β
The bodyguard stared at Barrede's eyes, and the mercenary's water-like eyes and strong body made the bodyguard take a few steps back, but he still refused to admit defeat. "I'm going to see what you can do with it. β
Lucius saw that no one could stop him, and he was even more bold, and the table was broken, and there was no place for the sword, so he simply rested it on the man's shoulder. "I'll give you one last chance to tell you what you want. β
The man slowly stood up and looked at Lucius solemnly. "If you can defeat me, I'll tell you, of course, but if you lose to me, leave that mage. β
"Mage, what do you want to do to that mage?" Lucius still stared into the man's eyes, and he realized that the other party was taller than himself.
"When you defeat me, you'll know. With that, the man turned and walked out the door, and the bodyguards carefully protected his body as he passed.
Adeline walked over, looking worried. "His target seems to be me, but I don't remember meeting him. β
Lucius sighed and lowered his sword. "Doesn't look like an easy guy to deal with, and he might have to fight a tough battle. β
A space had been vacated in the street outside the tavern, and Lucius and the man were each standing on one side of the tavern's door, duel in a posture that the pedestrians on the street avoided them, and only a few of the braver ones stood at a distance and watched. The bodyguards took this opportunity to block the front door, the boss hid behind the two and peeked outside, a guy had been sent by him from the back door to find the guards, and now he only hoped that the two thugs would not smash his façade.
The man drew his sword, his sword was very long, he was taller than Barred and Lucius, but his body was thinner, Lucius judged that the other party was a speed swordsman. Barred couldn't help but worry about his friend when he saw the man's unusually long hands and feet, but he couldn't interfere in the duel between the two, so he could only lean over to Lucius and whisper to remind him. "His hand is long, and his sword is longer, so try to get as close to him as possible, or you'll be in a bad situation. β
"Do you still want to say it?" Lucius held his sword in both hands, but his heart was excited about the battle. "Boy, seeing that you are relatively young, I will let you attack first. β
The man didn't speak, he raised his sword and rushed over, the speed was so fast that both Barred and Lucius were taken aback, and with his long hand and long sword, the blade was in front of Lucius in a blink of an eye.
Lucius cursed indistinctly and hurriedly retreated to the lower right, but fortunately, he had developed extremely fast reflexes in his years of training with Barrede, and he barely managed to dodge the sword. The man slammed his sword into the air, lifted his foot and shoveled Lucius to the ground, then raised his sword and plunged it downward. Lucius continued to roll to the right, dodging the sword, taking advantage of the opportunity for the opponent to focus on attacking him, he grabbed the man's right foot with both feet and pulled it hard to the right, and the man fell to the ground. Lucius seized the opportunity, sat on each other's ass, pulled up the collar and smashed it in the other's face, at this distance, the long sword was no longer of any use, both of them threw the sword, and tore it together on the ground, for a while, the dirt rolled and stirred up a burst of dust.
Adeline looked at the two people hugging each other on the ground, and asked Barred beside her in confusion. "Are you swordsmen like this when you fight? I thought it was the sword that made the difference. β
Barred laughed and said, "This is Lucius's deliberate, he knows that he can't fight with that guy in a good position, because the opponent's sword will definitely stab him first, so he simply scuffled together, that is, he relied on strength to win and lose, there is no doubt that Lucius has an advantage in strength by looking at his figure." β
Sure enough, as Barred said, the two on the ground scuffled for a while, and Lucius obviously had the upper hand, although his face was also punched a few times by the man, but the other party was already lying on the ground and couldn't move, and his face was blue and purple.
At this moment, the shouts of the guards came from a distance, and Barred hurriedly dragged Lucius and the man from the ground. "That's enough, I'll take care of it. β
The guards looked at the three of them from far and near, and cautiously approached. "Someone reported that there was a disturbance here, is that you?"
Barred smiled. "It's us, it's just that our friends have drunk too much and have a disagreement, and now that they're done drinking, they're fine. β
"That's not easy to do, didn't so many of our brothers come to maintain order in vain?" The guard who took the lead saw that the other party was not a very vicious person, and he was a lot more relaxed.
Barrede's hand touched his belt, and a gold coin and several silver coins immediately popped out of his hand, and the mercenary walked into the guard, and the other party thought he was going to do something, and nervously pulled out his weapon. "Don't be nervous, the brothers are thirsty when they come over once, and these little meanings should be given to the brothers to drink. Barred shoved the coins into the guards' hands.
The guard glanced at his hand, and couldn't help but smile on his face. "You young people, don't always make trouble for us, forget it this time, don't make an example. After saying that, the guards who had beaten their heads turned around and shouted at the people who were watching the excitement around them, "Disperse, disperse, it's okay." β
In the tavern, Adeline healed Lucius and the man's external injuries, and the man's look at Adeline made Barred feel very uncomfortable, because the look was similar to when he looked at Adeline, and the mercenary had a premonition that his rival was there.
Lucius drank triumphantly, he was a well-deserved victor, although the fight was not very pretty. "If you lose, tell your purpose, or you'll be a villain who cheats people from now on. β
The man touched the pain on his face in amazement. "That's right, I lost, and I'll stick to what I said. The man also took a sip of wine and moistened his throat. "I was originally a soldier, but then I left the army to get a job as a guard at the Mage Tower. β
Barred was shocked, and his hunch became a reality. "Why? Is the army bad?"
The man smiled. "I look forward to a life of adventure everywhere, and the life of the army can only be stationed in certain places, and it is difficult to have the opportunity to leave the barracks. β
"Then why are you following us? "Lucius gets to the point.
The man glanced at Adeline, and a shy look flashed across his face. "Just as I was resting in this city, I happened to see this mage, I think she is the mage I have been looking for, I am willing to be her bodyguard, and use my life to ensure her safety, but I don't dare to come and ask too directly, because you two look like her bodyguards, so I decided to observe before deciding. β
"I'm not her bodyguard. Lucius hurriedly cleared himself up, and then he saw Barreid's ugly face. "But he's about to become the mage's bodyguard, so I'm afraid you won't have a chance. β
"yes, I haven't made a connection yet, which means I still have a chance. The man was also calm.
Barred didn't know what to say, so he held back for a long time before muttering a word. "Young man, everything comes first, first come, I know this mage before you, you have to line up. β
The man scratched at his hair in embarrassment. "It's up to the mage to have the final say. β
"You're right. Adeline glanced at Barred with a wicked smile and said, "I'm Adeline, what's your name, young swordsman?"
"Elonhan. The man looked at Adeline flattered, his eyes full of anticipation.
