Chapter 15: Hallucinations

The cloudy sky gradually blew a cold wind, blowing endless sand flying in the air, the desert was also dyed black, the moon appeared and disappeared behind the dark clouds, and the whole land was dark.

Two strange horses were struggling in the desert, and the terrifying knights on horseback seemed to be looking for something, and the wind mixed with the sand blew their dry hair, revealing their pale and mutilated faces. The demon came to a halt in a hollow in the dunes, and there was no one around, which made them puzzled and searched around.

One of the demons had just taken a few steps in the other direction, trying to see the traces on the ground in the dim sand, and the demons with extraordinary perceptibility would not miss a clue, and this small patch of sand made him find something unusual. The wind was getting stronger, and it was so difficult to see through the wind and sand that the demon had to bend down to barely see what was going on on the ground.

Suddenly, the sand on the ground burst open, and a shadow leaped up from it, flying right to the side of the demon. The shadow came so suddenly, and the sand obscured the demon's vision, that he couldn't see what it was. Even so, the demon was the elite of the dark tide after all, and he drew his sword and slashed at the shadow, he felt the resistance, and the broadsword slashed through the shadow, splitting the shadow in half.

However, at the same time as the demon swung his sword, another shadow jumped up, and then the sound of the sword blade unsheathed sounded, and the demon did not even let out a scream, but its head was already separated from its body.

The other demon heard the sound and hurried over, and in the black wind and sand, he could only see the outline of a horse, and the figure looming on the horse's back. The demon drew his sword and slowly led the horse closer, the wind and sand blowing across his face, and the sand leaking into his empty eyes.

The demon finally saw the shadow on his horse's back, a headless corpse, and he immediately looked up, but the fierce wind and sand limited his vision to five yards. The demon took the reins of the horse that had lost its owner to check on the horse's condition, and just as he was about to pull the reins, a figure jumped up from the other side of the horse. The blade slashed across the root-like neck, the demon's right hand still gripping the reins, his left hand already raised its scabbard, but he never had a chance to draw it again.

Fern sat down on the sand, lifted his water bladder and poured several sips of ale, the last source of his water, which he had not drunk for a long time. After sitting and resting for a while, Fern picked up the cloak that had been split in half on the ground, put half of it on his head and the other half around his waist, then looked up at the dark sand and shook his head helplessly.

The demons didn't carry any food or water with them, they didn't need any of them, not even their weird mounts. Unsurprising, Fern drove the two strange horses away, then continued in the opposite direction from where the demon had come. With no moon or stars to show him the way on this dark sandy night, and only a few yards as far as the eye could see, he really couldn't have decided where to go if it hadn't been for Fern remembering the direction the demon had come from.

Fern hid his mouth and nose in his cloak and walked forward with difficulty, not worrying about his tracks attracting other demons in this stormy and sandy weather, because not long after he walked, all traces were covered by the blowing sand. So he doesn't have to worry about being caught up by the demons, he now has another, more serious problem to worry about.

Only half of the ale had been left from Dune Village, and it would take at least two days for Fern to reach the Pilatus Mountains at his current speed, and in this endless desert, he could not find any other source of water, and within a day he would become dehydrated and unconscious, and then lie in this dry desert slowly turning into a dried corpse.

The boredom in his heart made Ferne's mind chaotic, and the constant whistling of the wind in his ears made him even more irritable, and what had happened to him in the past few months made him almost forget who he was, but he became a puppet pushed forward by an invisible force, walking in the black desert step by step like now.

Before he knew it, the sky was slowly brightening, and Fern realized that the sandstorm had stopped at some point, and the stars could still be seen in the deep blue sky. Fern untied the half of the cloak that had wrapped around his head, the sand had accumulated a thick layer on it, and he shook the cloak as he looked up at the stars to confirm his direction. "Luckily, it didn't deviate too much. Fern nodded silently and continued to take his steps.

The white belly of the fish on the horizon gave people hope, but it was a bad omen in Fern's eyes at this moment, and it was not long before the scorching sun rose in the sky, draining all the moisture from the desert.

Fern didn't know how long he had been walking in the sun, and though he had tried to drink as little water as possible, there was not much of a sac of ale left. Every breath of dry air made him smoky, his pale and dry lips were numb, and the moisture of sweat evaporated, leaving only white sweat stains sticking to his clothes.

Fern drank the last sip of ale and looked ahead with a confused look in his eyes, the scene distorted, and the sand dunes in the distance became crooked. Fern blinked vigorously, and the distortion lessened slightly, but it didn't take long for it to get worse again.

"Looks like I'm going to die here today. Fern thought to himself, his footsteps still slowly dragging forward. "I'm really unwilling, at least I have to die on the front line of the battle against the dark tide. ”

After walking like this for a long time, Fern's will began to weaken, and several times he almost fell to the ground, and I don't know what force was supporting him to continue forward, as if he would fall to the ground at any moment, buried by the yellow sand.

Just as Fern was about to lose consciousness again, he seemed to see a patch of green not far away, he fell to the ground, and his consciousness immediately became a little more sober, and he quickly struggled to stand up and look in the direction of the green. Sure enough, he saw an oasis, not large in scope, but there would definitely be a source of water. Fern rubbed his eyes in disbelief, the oasis was still there, and the ecstasy in his heart instantly filled his whole body with strength, and he ran towards the oasis with his last strength.

As the oasis drew nearer, Fern could already see the green grass fluttering in the wind and the flowing water, and his desperate thirst for water and his almost exhausted body made him stumble towards the lake, falling several times along the way. He didn't care if the water could be drunk directly, so he ran to the lake and jumped into the lake.

The expected coolness did not come as expected, and there was no sound of falling water, and Fern seemed to have fallen into a black abyss, but at this moment he had long forgotten about it, and instead opened his mouth and sucked greedily, only to find that not a drop of water had entered his mouth. Only then did he open his eyes in confusion and find himself in a world of nothingness and darkness.

Fern floated up in the darkness, and though he didn't exert himself too hard, he floated in the air and began to fly slowly forward. Golden Ambilights began to appear in the darkness around him, and all the golden bands of light were moving behind Fern, faster and faster, which made Fern realize that he was moving forward quickly, and faster and faster.

The swift golden yellow made Fern dizzy and unconscious, and scenes from the past came to mind. At the last moment when she was about to rescue Niss, she lost her again, the magic attack that Queai blocked for herself on the Sky Bridge, and Morena hugged herself tightly in the deep blue water, and the two slowly sank, with the dull sound of water in their ears.

Fern was tired, all his memories were far away from him, his world was nothing, without any light or sound, and flew forward in the golden passage.
