Chapter 52: Sudden Enlightenment
Fadar's nights were unexpectedly cold, and the evening breeze on his body was reminiscent of winter in the north.
The gardens were wiped out of the battle as if the battle had never happened, and guards of ten patrolled the castle grounds frequently to ensure that there were no blind spots for the demons to exploit.
A group of guards saluted respectfully as they passed Stan, and the knight nodded in return and subconsciously tightened his cloak, which was nothing to Stan, who was born in Doyle, but the torment in his heart made him feel like he was in icy water.
Concern about his situation had led him to immerse himself in his thoughts, unaware that he had paced to the bottom of Nerfi's room. Looking up, the window of the girl's room is closed to the window of his own room, which calms Stan's mind a little.
"At least the demon has to go through the window. Stan reassures himself, then lowers his head and continues to take a step.
Suddenly, a dull sound inadvertently reaches Stan's ears, and the knight reflexively looks up, only to see a blinding light filling the windows of Nerfi's room, and the air seems to be still for a second. A violent explosion ensued, golden light piercing the closed windows, and scattered pieces of wood drifted through the air.
"Nerfi!" Stan's mind goes blank, but his legs are running.
The fires in the hallway were flickering, and the guards were running in a panic, shouting and shouting, and they hadn't even figured out where the explosion had occurred. Stan doesn't care about that, everything around him is blurred, and all he sees is the seemingly never-ending aisle ahead.
Running up to the third floor of the castle in one go, Nerfi's room was already close at hand, and several maids cowered timidly outside the door, looking at the door at a loss.
"Danger, get out of the way!" Stan yelled, drawing his sword and stepping over to the door with all his might.
"Nerfi!" Stan shouted and rushed into the room, his sword raised, ready for the next fierce fight.
However, the room is now calm, and Nerfi stands in the center of the room, with her back to Stan. Opposite her, a man in a black cloak was pinned to the wall by arrows of light, his head hanging limply, his face hidden in his hood, and his staff falling to the ground.
Stan cautiously approaches the window, stretching out his sword and picking up the hood of the attacker, a young man with bloodstains on his lifeless face. "He's not a demon, he's human. ”
"That's right, it's human, just like you and me. Nerfi's voice came from behind him. "Do you remember the Twilight Cult?"
"Twilight?" Stan slowly backs away, his eyes still on the man on the wall. "Are you saying he's a subordinate of Aloisius?"
"I guess so, he ventured into here from the dark plane, and only a dark mage can do that. Nerfi's tone softened. "It's like we escaped from Dorne through the Light Plane. ”
Stan retreats to Nerfi's side. "But I remember Rui once saying that the dark plane was pitch black, that you couldn't see anything, and that you couldn't come back when you got there. ”
"That's for people who have been forcibly pulled into the Shadow Plane, if the Shadow Mage himself takes the initiative to enter the Shadow Plane, he can still come out, but as you said, this is really a very risky move. Nerfi shook and almost fell.
Stan quickly grabs the mage. "Are you alright, Nerfi. ”
Nerfi braced herself up. "I'm fine, but I was so frightened that I was so frightened that I used too much mana. ”
Stan helps the mage to the bedside, and the guards finally arrive with the sound of messy footsteps outside the door.
"Are you alright, Stan, Nerfi?" Fren ran into the room first, the lord followed by several guards.
"We're alright......" Stan looked at Fren with a concerned face in front of him, and the sweaty guards behind him, and suddenly a strange feeling welled up in his heart, as if it was not a human standing in front of him, but one demon after another.
"We need to get out and walk. Stan quietly glanced at the unknown Nerfi and helped her out the door. "Let's both be alone and breathe. ”
Instead of stopping them, Fren watched the two of them behind and let them walk out of the room.
The air outside the castle was cold and fresh, and Nerfi breathed in the fresh air and felt much better. "Did you think of anything, Stan?"
"I'm not sure. Stan massages his temples. "But I think it's a trap here, and the whole of Fadar is a trap. ”
"But Furren is really protecting us. Nerfi looked at the patrols in the distance. "You see, these guards do stop more demons. ”
Stan shook his head and said, "That's because he wants to keep us here, and as long as we're here, there's an infinite number of opportunities to kill us." ”
Nerfi frowned. "Then why didn't he just send someone to kill us? He has so many guards that we can't resist at all. ”
"I guess he can't do that, no matter how abnormal this parallel world is, but everything has to make sense. Stan lowered his voice. "Having him kill two people who saved Fadar is obviously something he can't do. ”
"So he can only hope that the Demon or the Twilight Cult will do it. Nerfi seems to accept Stan's point of view. "That would explain why the Twilight Cult knows exactly where my room is, but ....... Nerfi looked at Stan in confusion. "Why did he kill us? Since things here are in line with common sense, he can't kill us. ”
"I also can't understand that our arrival has saved Fadar, although only temporarily, but everyone here thinks we are heroes. Stan shrugged.
"There's only one possibility. Nerfi thought for a few seconds and sighed. "Fren has turned his back on the light, and he is the one who has darkened the Lord, so we have spoiled his good deeds. ”
Stan looks at the mage in shock. "Are you saying that he originally wanted to lose to the Dark Tide and sacrifice Fadar to the Dark Lord, but we disrupted it?"
"That's right, that's what it means, and apparently everyone else but Fern doesn't know it, so they're still fighting and see you as a hero. Nerfi nodded.
Stan nodded incessantly. "Everything makes sense, why our castle is still under constant attack, why Fren is late every time, it all makes sense. Wait......" A thought suddenly pops into Stan's mind, causing him to shudder.
"What's wrong?" asked Nerfi nervously.
"If here Fren turns his back on the light, what about our world, and will we also be caught in the net if we go to Fadar's aid?" Stan clutched his head, not daring to imagine what his assumptions would have been like if they were true.
Nellfi pursed her lips in contemplation for a moment. "Theoretically, the historical course of the two worlds will be different, and we cannot predict it, let alone reason it. ”
Stan drops his hands holding his head and jerks his head up. "Get out of here, we have to get out of here right now!"
The image of "But......" Maurice appeared in Nerfi's mind.
"We have to do it, Nerfi. Stan gripped the girl's shoulders tightly. "Otherwise we will die in Fadar and never be able to return to our world, and leaving here is our only way out. ”
