Chapter Twenty-Six: The Destroyed Village
The group continued to march south in the Ximu Forest, passing several hunters' huts along the way, and all the hunters inside died unexpectedly, and in a horrible manner. Lyria and Barney grew accustomed to the tragedy and stopped vomiting, but they still held their noses and waited outside.
Two days later, they finally reached the southern edge of the Ximu Forest, and the view of the vast plain was refreshing, and the pressure of the oppressive atmosphere in the forest for days was swept away. Although their mission was far from complete, and unknown dangers awaited them, Lyria and Barney had relaxed and chatted without a word on the plains.
Geoff noticed the solemn look on Fraser's face. "Did you notice anything again?"
Fraser nodded slightly. "Yes, there seems to be a human colony ahead, and it must not have been spared, but I don't remember any villages there. ”
"It's normal if you don't remember, many villages were destroyed during the Darktide War, and people who lost their homes after the war regrouped and founded new villages, presumably new villages. Geoff said after a moment's thought.
Fraser said with a blank face, "They left some 'people' there. ”
"What?' do you mean the body of a dead man?" Geoff turned his head to look at Fraser.
"That's right, the aura of magic left behind isn't strong, so there shouldn't be a lot of it, but you'd better let the two of them prepare. ”
Geoff nodded, turned and called Lyria and Barney over to give them orders. Judging from the expressions of the two of them, Lyria was still looking forward to this encounter, while Barney was completely different, and his nervousness seemed to be about to explode.
The next four continued in a line-up, with Fraser leading first, Lyria close behind, then Barney, and finally Geoff. After passing through a few bushes, a small village finally came into view, small in size, looking like only a dozen families.
Lyria looked at the appearance of the village and didn't see anything wrong, so she said, "It seems normal, let's just walk over there, or do we go quietly?"
Fraser frowned and didn't answer her, but quickened his pace and walked forward, Lyria was dissatisfied, but she couldn't say anything, so she had to follow.
As the group approached the village, they began to feel some unusual atmosphere, the most obvious being that the surroundings were so quiet that they could hear their own breathing. It's possible that the people in the village are all in the house and don't come out, but there is not a sound at all, which is definitely not a normal sign. Lyria stopped talking, and with her bow in her left hand and a bow and arrow in her right hand, the village was within reach.
"Up!" Fraser yelled and rushed towards the nearest room, and Lyria reacted quickly and immediately followed. Fraser kicked open the wooden door and jumped into the room to slash at it, and Lyria shot her bow and arrow before pulling out a dagger from her waist and attacking.
Barney and Geoff also arrived, and the battle in the house was over, and there was a mess in the visible area, with several mutilated corpses lying on the ground, and black liquid slowly flowing from the corpses. Fraser didn't bother to wipe the liquid from his body and went back outside. "It's not over yet, check every room!" he said, rushing to the next room.
The four of them split into two groups, with Fraser and Lyria continuing to clean the room on the left, and Geoff and Barney taking charge of the other room. For a while, the sound of fighting was incessant, and occasionally there were a few shouts and the sound of knocking over things. Fraser and Lyria were faster, and seeing that there was only one room left, Fraser's heart suddenly flashed with a hint of unease, and then a powerful magical impact slammed into his body, knocking him out of the way, directly knocking through the wall and flying out of the house.
Fraser rolled on the ground a few times, and with a grunt he stood up and ran in the direction of the magic attack, and Lyria flew out, she was obviously hit hard, and she didn't get up at once, but fortunately, the bodies they were fighting with were also smashed by the magic, and they couldn't attack her anymore. Not far away, a figure in a mage's robe stood at the other end of the village, and he was holding up his hands to two people, none other than Geoff and Barney. There was a faint flash of fire in the mage's hand, and Geoff and Barney were obviously injured and couldn't move for a while, and they were about to take this magic head-on, which was enough to kill them.
Fraser raised the sword in his hand and threw it forward with all his might, slamming into the shield a few yards away from the mage, and the shield shattered with a click, but Fraser's sword fell to the ground as well. The mage tilted his head to Fraser and smiled sinisterly, the fire in his hand getting brighter and brighter. "Hell!" Fraser cursed in his heart.
At the last moment, an agile figure appeared out of nowhere, standing right behind the mage. The figure's skillful left hand grabbed the mage's hair, and with a lift of his right hand, a cold light swept across the mage's neck, and then a stream of blood gushed out, and the mage's legs went limp, and he fell in a pool of blood. It all happened in the blink of an eye, and it was almost a few seconds before Geoff and Barney realized that they were saved.
Fraser also ran over to pick up the sword in the stone, and cautiously looked at the mysterious figure in front of him. The man was a tall man with short dark yellow hair clinging to his scalp and a tight leather coat that made him look very energetic, but what caught Fraser's attention the most were the metal vials he wore around his waist. "You're a witcher?"
The man cut off a small piece of clothing from the mage and wiped the dagger. "That's right, I'm a witcher, you can call me Solar. ”
Geoff had already gotten up from the ground and walked over while rubbing his chest. "Thank you for showing up in time this time, otherwise Barney and I would be finished. ”
"I also arrived just in time, so it's your fate. Solal waved his hand indifferently.
Fraser glanced behind him and saw that Lyria was slowly approaching. "Why did you come to such a remote village? This village must have only been around for a long time, and many people don't even know it exists. ”
Soral finished wiping the dagger, plunged it back into his waist, and threw the small piece of bloodstained clothing away. "I met villagers in a nearby village who had fled from here, and they said that this place had been attacked by a group of zombies, and that as a witcher, you should not sit idly by. ”
"It's not a monster here, it's ......" Barney stepped forward before he could finish when he was grabbed by Geoff.
Solal narrowed his eyes at Barney. "What is it?"
Fraser walked over to Solal. "It was the mage who did it, and the one you just killed was the mage. ”
"Really, no wonder I didn't hesitate to do it at the first sight of him. Solal nodded, no more questions.
Geoff pulls Barney down behind his back. "What are you going to do next? You've seen the situation in this village. ”
Solal glanced at everyone. "Like I said, I only happened to know what was going on here in a nearby village, so I didn't have any plans, what about you? I can join you if I stop by. ”
Geoff struggled on the spot, not knowing whether to take this half-killed guy with them, they didn't know much about him. Just then, Fraser pulled a badge out of his bosom and handed it to Solal. "Do you recognize this?"
Solal took the badge, examined it carefully, and then looked up at Fraser suspiciously. "You know Amos?"
Fraser nodded. "yes, you know what he meant by giving me this badge, right?"
Solal returned the badge to Fraser and sighed. "I don't think I can hide it from you, but I've been tracking down those evil mages as well. ”
