Chapter 10: Adult Tasks
When Arthur briefly told the story of his acquaintance with the old dwarf Turutuk, he immediately won ToruΕ's trust.
Not only did Toren accept Arthur's invitation to drink with him, but he also pestered Arthur to tell him about Turutuk's experience in the Orc Wasteland. As Arthur spoke, ToruΕ's eyes kept shining with yearning.
Once the dwarves had drunk their drinks, they let go completely, and Toren answered almost all of Arthur's questions.
Arthur knew from Toren that Turutuk had a very high reputation among the dwarves, he loved to explore many places on the continent, and was the most knowledgeable dwarf in the dwarven kingdom, and many young dwarves regarded him as an idol.
It was because of his worship of Turutuk that the dwarf Toren ran to the Necronomical Heights to complete his coming-of-age mission.
A dwarf's hallmark of adulthood is the ability to independently forge a piece of rare-class equipment. Therefore, the adult task of the dwarves is to collect materials to forge a rare piece of equipment for themselves, and the higher the quality and level of the crafted equipment, the higher the honor won among the dwarves.
Although the Necronomicon Heights is barren and harsh and unsuitable for survival, it produces several rare and high-quality ores, and Toren came here to collect materials in order to forge a top-rare quality equipment for himself.
"Uncle Arthur, why did you come to Necronomicon Heights?"
"You're drunk, aren't you? You're not an adult, but you're older than me, how can you call me uncle?" Arthur corrected Toren at once.
Dwarves live twice as long as Terrans, reaching three hundred years old, so the adult age of dwarves is also nearly thirty years longer than that of Terrans. ToruΕ has already begun to prepare for the adult mission, and he will naturally be thirty years old this year.
"You're a friend of Uncle Turutuk, that's my elder, of course I'm going to call you uncle. β
How strange Arthur felt to be called uncle by a dwarf older than himself, "Friends are of all ages, I can be Turutuk's friend or your friend, so you must not call me uncle, otherwise you will break off your friendship." β
Toren thought for a moment before reluctantly saying, "Okay, Brother Arthur." β
Big brother is big brother, Arthur no longer wants to correct this stubborn dwarf, "We are here because we want to be guests in the dwarf kingdom, Turutuk once invited us, can you take us to the dwarf kingdom?"
Arthur told a lie, he naturally couldn't tell the dwarves that he and Joan were being hunted down, and that going to the dwarven kingdom was for refuge.
"You're Uncle Turutuk's friends, and you'll be very welcome in the Dwarven Kingdom!" Toren looked excited, but then the expression on his face changed to loss, "But I'm very sorry I can't take you there, I have to collect all the materials for the adult mission in the Necronomisis Heights before I can go back." β
"Oh, what materials are you missing?"
"I want to forge a sixth-level battle axe for myself, and now that the main material of the axe is available, I still need to add spiritual spirit stones to the axe, add silver star stones to resist demons, and pure gold to make the axe blade harder and sharper, as well as a suitable axe handle. β
Arthur smiled, "Turutuk and I got a lot of rare ores when we ransacked the orc tribe in the Orc Wasteland, among which there happened to be the Spirit Mother Stone and the Silver Star Stone, which I could give to you. Adamantite and axe handles can be purchased at a high price in Shiningtown, and I can lend you the gold first. β
Toren hurriedly shook his head, "No, the materials for the dwarf's adult quest must be collected by themselves, and even if they are purchased, they must be purchased with the money they earn, and they cannot accept gifts from others." β
"We're already friends, it's just friends helping each other, I might need your help building equipment in the future?" Arthur continued to try to persuade the dwarves. If Torun could lead the way and be introduced, his trip to the Dwarven Kingdom would be much smoother.
But Arthur once again learned the stubbornness of the dwarves, and no matter what Arthur said, Toren insisted that he must forge with the materials he had collected himself in order to complete his adult mission.
Arthur sighed helplessly, "That's it, anyway, we are also traveling around, just to accompany you to collect Adamantite and hunt in the Necromantic Heights, how about you exchange the harvest of hunting with me for the Spirit Mother Stone and Silver Star Stone?"
Toren smiled this time, "That's good, you accompany me to collect materials first, and then I'll take you back to the dwarven kingdom." β
"Do you have a place to stay in town, if not, come back to the hotel with me?"
"I live outside of the town, which is your Terran place, and it's not safe for the dwarves. β
The dwarf's words reminded Arthur that order in the town was maintained by the church, and that he had just cut off someone's hand, and the town was even more unsafe for Arthur and Joan.
"Do you have a few more people there?"
"We dwarves live in caves, and if you don't mind, it doesn't matter how many people we want. β
"Then it's decided, my friend and I will go to your place tonight, let's go. β
The dwarf Toren didn't think much about Arthur being so anxious to go with him, but felt that Big Brother Arthur was too enthusiastic, no wonder he could be friends with Uncle Turutuk.
Arthur didn't say hello to the mercenaries, and pulled Joan out of the bar, "Go back to the hotel and call Spence, we'll leave town now." β
Joan was unusually smart, and when she saw the dwarf standing next to Arthur, she understood what he thought, and only asked again, "Don't you want those goods?"
"Use our bracelets and rings to pack as much as we can, and give those mercenaries if we can't. β
A quarter of an hour later, at the entrance of Shining Town, four figures, three tall and one short, quickly disappeared into the night......
......
Arthur and the others had just left Shining Town on their front feet, and more than a dozen fierce men broke into the Moon Elf Bar, and the Falcon mercenaries who had not left had no chance to explain before they were all defeated.
A middle-aged man with a dark complexion stared at the mercenary lying on the ground, "Where is the mercenary who cut off one of my brother's hands?"
"He's not from our mercenary group, they've already fled in advance. The mercenary captain struggled to raise his head and explained.
The middle-aged man snorted coldly, "Escape, provoke our blood skeletons in the Necromantic Heights, no one can escape!"
At the same time, the Reverend Fast, who was at the diocesan headquarters of the Kingdom of Holo, was stunned with the magic message he had just sent, "How did Arthur escape to Shining Town?"
Fast turned around suddenly, "Send a message to the chief knight who is in charge of guarding the Spirit Slashing Pass, and ask him to gather all his strength to catch those people for me!"
The priest of the summons walked quickly, and Fast was still whispering to himself, "The years of the Necronomical Heights are so nostalgic!"
