Chapter X: Just Verdicts

Outside the prison van stood full of people waiting for the verdict to be enforced, their anger weaving an impenetrable web. Each of them held a pinhole sword made by the Judgment of Justice with a short blade and a special material at the junction of the hilt and blade to prevent liquid leakage.

A hundred men in all, the first citizen approached the prisoner cart with a pinhole sword, named after the extremely thin pinhole at the end of the sword, and he grasped the hilt with trembling hands, and stabbed the blade of the sword into the prisoner in the cart with clenched teeth.

"Poof, snort...", the blade of the sword stabbed into the paralyzed human body and produced a slight sound, as if a needle was picking through a blister.

A few drops of warm blood were channeled out by the extremely thin blade, but as the entire short blade was completely pierced into the prisoner's body, the blood-absorbing material stuck to the wound like a piece of wound medicine.

The person in the prisoner car did not have a very uncomfortable expression, but his facial features were already a little distorted. Looking at the anesthetized body as if it was not his own body being constantly pierced into the pinhole sword without feeling pain, and looking at the hundred numb citizens in front of him seemed to be a group of demons torturing their bodies, but they couldn't stop it.

Avi's mind finally recreated the sight he had seen, and this memory was his childhood nightmare. At the same time, this memory has always been buried in his heart, wary of him, if one day he commits a crime, he will be punished by such a punishment - a righteous verdict.

He saw that Talon was already seated in a chair, while the other sheriffs were preparing supplies and organizing the masses to carry out the "righteous verdict" on him, and several doctor-like men were standing beside him.

"No, I've been framed, I can't just die!" Avi roared with all his strength.

Charlik saw this scene, but after only one glance, he turned his head to look for the trace of his daughter, because Miranda had been missing since he testified.

"Sheriff's Department is on fire!" a vigilante shouted as he ran out of the sheriff's office.

"What's going on?" the purple-clad sheriff asked, grabbing him.

"Several halls are on fire, I don't know why!

Talon stood up and said, "Don't panic, you guys, guide the people out of the square first, and escort the prisoners back to the dungeon first." ā€

The restless crowd stood up one after another, "The Sheriff's Office is on fire, please leave the square in an orderly manner, and we will carry out the justice verdict in the evening." The purple-clad sheriff commanded loudly to the crowd.

Charlik secretly shouted in his heart: "It must be Miranda, she has become more and more bold in recent years." ā€

Avi was taken back to the dungeon by a vigilante by the hand.

"There is no justice at all. ā€

After Avi said this in his heart, he suddenly hung the chains of his hands around the sheriff's neck and pulled back with force. But since his body really didn't have the strength to do it, the vigilante could still use one hand to support the chain and prevent himself from being strangled.

Avi, who had exhausted all his strength, gritted his teeth and grabbed the chain tightly with both hands, as if he wanted to grasp the last straw that saved his life, "I want to live!"

The vigilante's face was soon purple, and he was about to die. But at this moment, Avi's heart resounded with the conversation that Jonny had once had with him.

"You have taken care of this horse since birth, do you think it is a hard process?"

"It's so hard!"

"Is a horse's life precious?"

"Precious!"

"What is the value of that man?"

"Of course, it's expensive, but it's a little different. ā€

"Well, although they are different, their lives are very precious, if one day you can decide their life and death, you must remember - they have been so difficult since birth, if you can, please give them a little mercy. ā€

Avi let go of the chain and ran towards the other exit of the dungeon, as he could see the vigilante standing there walking out the door. "Everybody's going to put out the fire, this is the only chance!" he thought to himself. The vigilante, who had almost been strangled from breath, lay on the ground, gasping for air.

"Give me a little mercy if you can!" Avi ran towards the back door with all his strength.

As he was about to reach the door, it was suddenly opened, and two men in hats and capes stood outside the door.

"Avi!" one of them called out in a low voice.

"Miranda, I—" Avi was immediately covered by another person, put on his hat, and walked out of the dungeon.

"Don't talk, let's get out of here!"

The three of them were walking out, and the few security guards they met just nodded to them, without any inspection or obstruction.

After leaving the Sheriff's Office, they walked briskly out of the city, and the sound of the crowd entering the Sheriff's Office behind them was already heard, and it was obvious that the verdict, which had been postponed by the "fire accident", was about to continue.

Soon they were in a forest outside the city, "This is the one who is going to be brought out." In addition to Miranda, the other man shouted into the shadows of the forest.

Out of the shadows of the forest came three men in the same hood, standing in the middle was a woman, the gardenia tattoo on her neck was instantly recognizable by Avi.

"You're... The mercenary. Avi pointed at the other party.

Gardenia ignored Avi, and a man behind her took out a jug of water and a loaf of bread and handed it to Avi.

"Eat some. The light voice made Avi's heart tremble, and the food and water made him feel warm. The person who handed the food put down his hat, and it turned out to be a very young girl, and the other person next to "Gardenia" was a young boy with a big nose.

Avi sat down with Miranda's help and gulped down some of the water, but gasped out some of it through her nose because she drank so quickly.

"You can call me Carrie. The girl handed Avi a small handkerchief.

"Thank you..."

"Hey, when is this going to be, aren't you afraid that the sheriff's office will find out that someone has been dropped?" said the big-nosed boy with his hands on his chest and impatiently.

Avi still had a trace of fear when he heard this, because he didn't know much about the situation until now, only that it was Miranda who saved him.

"There's already another death row inmate in your place," said the man who had not spoken from his cell to outside the city, taking off his hat and revealing his true face, "the guy who replaced you will wear a hood all the time, and the sheriff will not let anyone see his true face on the grounds that 'the prisoner's painful expression is indecent,' and no one will recognize him." ā€

The big-nosed boy teased, "Like you, Uncle 'Sailor'?"

After taking off his hat, Avi found that the other party's head was wrapped in two pirates' headscarves, one wrapped in his hair, and the other wrapped around his face below the nose, and only his eyes were exposed on the entire face, and he couldn't distinguish his true appearance at all.

"There's nothing for you to do here, you can go back first. The gardenia tattoo was apparently the boss of all the people here, and the man known as the "sailor" also left the city.

Miranda pointed to "Gardenia" and said, "She's your savior, Miss Delia." ā€

"You should be grateful to this girl, because she has paid a lot of money to help you replace the death row prisoner and accept the verdict on your behalf. Delia looked to be thirty years old, but her sleek features and slender figure made her look younger and more powerful.

Avi: "Where did you get that much money?"

Miranda: "I earned it back when I was in business with my father, and sometimes I have a better vision than my father... It doesn't matter, the most important thing is that you survived!"

Avi didn't mention the man he strangled, and Miranda didn't ask.

"You believe me... I didn't kill those two."

"Of course I do!" Miranda's determined eyes showed no doubt, "Even if the rest of the world thinks you're a murderer, I will..."

Before Avi could finish speaking, he hugged her tightly, and tears couldn't help but fall, "I..."

"No need to speak, I understand. Miranda closed her eyes because she wanted to feel the warmth of Avi's body more.

"Well, from tomorrow onwards, this boy will belong to me, everything about you, your life. The woman with the gardenia tattoo said coldly.
