Volume 1 The Order of Chaos Volume 1 Volume 2 Chapter 1
Mallot's orphanage is the largest on the mainland, where homeless children are sent every day, and many of the adults who still work in the orphanage have grown up here.
The orphanage is located in the western part of Mallot, where there is a river that connects to the outside of the city, and you can swim outside the city without going through the city gates. The orphanage used a white fence to protect the children inside, and then cut down all the trees outside the orphanage, making it look more like a small white castle from a distance.
Walking through the huge iron gate on the front of the orphanage, you can see a huge garden in the courtyard, where some orphans, the youngest who have not yet gone to school, are playing with a few dogs. They all have innocent smiles on their faces, like little angels. The garden is laid out in a patchwork of hills and rivers and a large flower garden, and a small field next to it is planted with all kinds of plants and fruits, which have been carefully planted by the gardeners and orphans here.
There is a path at the back of the garden where cows and sheep are kept in captivity, as well as some hens. Orphans in orphanages generally eat less fresh meat, and the cows and sheep provide them with milk, while the fresh eggs from the hens are very nutritious. In addition, there is a small horse farm next to it for orphans to learn to ride, and even Queen Rosemund, who visited here and rode horses with some of them.
On the perimeter of the garden are two-storey buildings, all built with brightly colored materials. The building is mainly a place for children to attend classes and rest, and of course there is a canteen full of fresh ingredients, and in many cases, the gardeners cook with the orphans, making dishes of their own hard-grown fruits and vegetables, which is like a paradise.
Evan the commander of the regular army is at the orphanage again today, with two little boys behind him. The two boys, about seven or eight years old, grabbed the side of Evan's pants and kept hiding behind Evan and looking around, watching his surroundings warily.
Evan didn't mind their caution either, and he slowed down cooperatively, and slowly led them to the orphanage's garden.
A tall gardener was trimming the flowers, and when he saw Evan walk in, he immediately stood up and greeted him.
"Mr. Evan!"
Evan also immediately nodded to the other party.
Evan, who was the deputy commander of the regular army and the head of the infantry school, would often bring back to Mallote children who had lost their families in the war, especially those who had belonged to the kingdom of Salins. When some soldiers died on the battlefield, Evan would find their home, and if only orphans and widows were left, Evan would personally give them the pension, and at the same time suggest that they join the regular army of the country, and Evan also applied to King Byron to form a female army with them mainly responsible for logistics, so that even orphans and widows could shine for the kingdom.
If they join the regular army from an early age, they will be fully cultivated by the Kingdom of Salins, and if there is only one child left in the family, both men and women will be sent to an orphanage. Those orphans who are strong and healthy will be given priority to be sent to the regular army academy to study and live, while the rest will remain in the orphanage to continue to observe, and when the conditions are right, they will be allowed to voluntarily join the regular army.
This time, the two little boys behind Evan are orphans in a village. The village had been sacked by a group of bandits and was now in ruins, but the chief who went to inspect the village found the two young boys crushed in the rubble and cried, and rescued them.
The chief told Evan as soon as he could, and Evan was happy to take over the two children and send them here.
"These two little boys are very shy, and they are still very afraid of the unfamiliar environment, and they want you to worry about it. Evan slowly brought the two boys to the tall gardener, who called another gardener and walked over with him.
"Don't worry, no problem, we'll take good care of them. The tall gardener said with a smile, revealing his white teeth.
"This one seems to have lost his speech, presumably from being frightened, and this one has lost an arm. The little kid who was pulling his left leg had only one arm left, and Evan said that his other arm had to be amputated because it had been crushed by the stone for so long that it had died when he was rescued.
The tall gardener didn't show a worried expression when he saw this, but said excitedly, "If that's the case, the regular military academy won't want him, just leave it to our orphanage," he said as he looked at the other boy who was speechless, "If he can't regain his ability to speak..."
"Of course, there is no way to join the regular army. Evan handed the two little children into the hands of the two gardeners, and his eyes were full of pity, like looking at a lamb that had lost its mother.
The two little boys slowly adapted to the neighborhood, and they were also infected by the gardener's kind smile and were willing to take each other's hands.
"Your Excellency, do you need to settle them with us as you normally would?" the tall gardener held the orphan with the broken arm like a father holding his son.
Evan waved his hand and said, "No need, you just follow the normal procedure, I have other things." Fed's uncle was about to turn away, but as he was about to go out of the garden, he turned back to the tall gardener and cried out, "By the way, tell your dean that the little girl named Michelle is in good health, and she will live with me henceforth." β
The tall gardener bared his white teeth again and gave Evan a big smile.
Evan continued to walk outside the orphanage, and in his heart, he felt that he had helped both the two children and the Kingdom of Sallins - even the little ones with aphasia and broken arms would have something to contribute.
The tall gardener and his companion walked into the building with two small children, and they came to a gate through a long straight road. In front of this door stood four guards, all of whom were orphans. When they saw the two little boys, they immediately opened the door and let them in, but the guards had a strange look in their eyes.
The tall gardener led the two orphans into the gate, and behind the gate was a passage that went underground. Torches hung on both sides of the passage, like the stronghold of some bandits.
The two little boys began to feel frightened, but the two gardeners picked them up and comforted them softly. After walking for a while, they came to a room in which a man with glasses sat and a bed next to it.
"This one is mute, this one is crippled, and he can't be healed. The tall gardener put the two little ones in front of the bespectacled man, and the bespectacled man took out some tools and made a simple examination of the little ones, measuring their height and weight.
"No problem, they're good suited as 'devotees,'" the bespectacled man opened another door in the room, which was so dark that he couldn't see anything, "By the way, tell me more about their experiences?"
"Needless to say, it's definitely appropriate. The tall gardener and his companion picked up the little one again and went to the door.
"When you go back, remember to report to the dean, the latest batch has failed again. The man with the glasses took off his glasses and wiped them with a thin handkerchief.
The tall gardener was holding the speechless child in his arms, and his expression was distressed, "There is no way, there will always be failures before success." With that, he walked through the door.
The bespectacled man closed the door and pulled out a small notebook from the drawer of the desk. He flipped through the notebook and added two names under today's dateβ"Dumb" and "Severed Arm," and then he crossed the back of all ten "names" he had written down on that date seven days ago.
"It seems that it is impossible for man-made life weapons to succeed at all, no matter how you try, it is impossible to artificially create life weapons, it is better to feed these people as feed to pigs, which is still a little valuable. The bespectacled man muttered to himself, and he flipped through the notebook, where his name was crossed from beginning to end, with no marks after it except for a name called "Short Hair."
When Evan returned to his residence, he found that Millet had already started cooking, and the aroma was waving from the kitchen β roast lamb shank tonight!
"I went back to the orphanage that day and found that one of my friends was missing!" Mi called out when she heard Evan's footsteps.
"Oh, I guess my body has recovered and I was recruited into the regular army. Evan replied lightly.
"But his illness is already good if it doesn't worsen, and it can be cured, and the doctors in the orphanage are really good!"
"yes," Evan began to prepare some utensils, "By the way, has anyone come looking for me in the past few days since I was away?" Evan found that his nephew, who was far away in the Republic of Marvil, hadn't written to him for a long time, and the last time he brought the news, he had joined the Moon Shield Mercenary Regiment.
Michelle showed her head out of the kitchen, she had just grown a little taller after her birthday, "Your nephew Feder didn't look for you, but," she knew that Evan cared most about her nephew, she had seen Evan invite officials from other kingdoms to dinner together, hoping that the other party would say a few kind words for his nephew, so that the king would not often urge Evan to hand over Christine, the daughter of Duke de la Main, "Your brother seems to have sent you a letter and put it on your bed." β
When Evan heard this, he put down the dishes, walked to the bedside, and picked up the envelope. It had been a few months since he wrote to Faulkner, and Faulkner never replied.
"You've seen it?"
"yes, but you'd better finish your meal before you go?"
Evan didn't understand what she meant, but when he saw the letter from his brother Faulkner, he understood.
"Mother, she died. β
