Chapter 412: The Plague (Part II)
The next morning, Arthas continued north with his soldiers and Gianna.
"There's a village nearby? It's strange, why isn't it on the map? And these farms, why aren't they?? What are the cartographers doing?" Alsace flipped through the map. Captain Farrick, the soldier captain who was traveling with Arthas, said as he touched his somewhat gray hair.
"Your Highness, I grew up here, and these farms are yeoman farmers, and they are responsible for their own profits and losses, and the way to make a profit is to buy the output of the farmland and livestock into the town. ”
"Untouchables?"
Gianna frowned slightly when she heard Arthas's words, and said, "If what you said is true, Captain Faric, then it is very likely that someone here will not ask for help outside if they are sick, and it is very likely that the people here have been infected." ”
Arthas snorted twice: "Gianna is right, let's go over and ask." ”
Arthas gave the order, and everyone dismounted, and they led the horses forward slowly, if there was a real plague, this would prevent the villagers from mistaking this for the army that was encircling them and making some irrational moves.
However, when they approached a dwelling, they discovered the anomaly.
Arthas pointed at them and said, "Look there! the door is broken, and the cattle in the corral are gone!"
"That's not a good sign......" Gianna muttered as she looked around.
Farrick ran a few quick steps, then shouted back, "No one to meet us!
Arthas and Gianna exchanged glances, then Arthas motioned for the group to stop, and he walked to the front alone and shouted: "I am Arthas, Prince of Lordaeron! I and my soldiers will not hurt you, please believe us, please come out and talk to us, we have some questions related to your safety!"
Gianna shuddered, and the only thing he could answer was the sound of the wind, it was too dead and silent, and so did the soldiers behind her, their armor clanging as they kept changing positions.
"Here...... Nobody?" Arthas muttered a little unconfidently.
"Maybe they're sick, Alsace, we should go in and see, they should need help. ”
Arthas nodded at Gianna's words, and then looked around at his men, who seemed reluctant to venture into a room where the plague might exist. Actually, Arthas himself didn't want to, but as Gianna said, these people need help, after all, this place belongs to Lordaeron, they are all his people, whether they are standing as a prince or a paladin, he should go in and have a look. Arthas remembered his vows, no matter what happened, no matter what it took.
"You stay. Arthas saw Gianna follow him and hurried to speak.
Gianna frowned, "Arthas, I told you, although I am good at using water-based spells, I am not made of water. I have my mission, and if there are really victims here, I have to observe them up close!"
Arthas choked for a moment and nodded helplessly: "Okay, then you follow behind my back, be careful." ”
Arthas led his team to a manor, and when he got a little closer to the manor, he smelled an unbearable stench, Gianna immediately covered his mouth and nose, Arthas was also holding back the vomiting sensation, and one of his subordinates turned around and vomited. The unpleasant smell is even more disgusting than a slaughterhouse littered with corpses in the summer. This smell already speaks to the tragic fate that may have befallen the owner of the house.
Gianna took two steps forward, her face pale but full of strength: "I will go in and check." ”
Before Arthas could recover his life, Gianna pushed the door open, and suddenly a terrible scream rushed out of the farmhouse along with the stench of death, and something rushed at them at an alarming speed. Arthas's hammer suddenly glowed with a striking light, and Arthas narrowed his eyes and rushed in front of Gianna. Swiftly raised the hammer and met the eye sockets of an oncoming nightmarish monster.
It wears a crude shirt and work pants, and is armed with a pitchfork. It used to be a farmer, but that's when it was alive. Now it's clearly dead, gray-green muscles shaving off from the bones, rotting fingers leaving filth marks on the straw fork handles. Thick black juice oozed from the pustules on its body, and it gurgled in its throat and spewed pus into Arthas's face. He was so startled by the look that he almost forgot to swing the hammer. When the thing came with a fork, Arthas had just time to raise his blessed weapon and knock the farm tool out of the walking corpse's hand. Next, the glowing hammer slammed into the thing's torso, causing it to fall to the ground and never move.
However, there was more than one disgusting fellow, and the monster immediately filled the place, and before Arthas could lift his hammer he heard a "poof", and then the monster in front of him caught fire, and in a short time the whole house was full of smoke. The battle here caught the attention of other monsters, and the sound of weapons colliding with each other, the screams of soldiers, and the battle cries resounded around Arthas. Looking at the smoke rising from the house, Arthas had an idea, yes, just do it.
"Retreat! Hurry!" Arthas looked at Gianna and shouted, "Gianna, burn them all!"
The soldiers were well trained, but never trained to deal with such a scene, and they were terrified and nervous. Nevertheless, with Alsace's orders, the people turned around and ran away from the houses. Arthas looked at Gianna closely, her mouth pursed tightly, her eyes fixed on the house, the flames crackling in her little hands, as harmless as flowers. A giant fireball the size of Gianna suddenly flew towards the farmhouse. The flames rose, and Arthas raised his hand to block the heat that was rushing in front of him. Several zombies are trapped in the fire. Arthas stared at the fire, unable to take his eyes off it for a moment. Then, forcing himself to divert his attention, he began to order the shooters to slaughter the zombies who did not fall into the sea of fire. In a few moments, all of these things were dead. This time it's really dead. The whole body is fully cooked.
There was silence for a long time, except for the crackling of flames engulfing farmhouses. After a long sigh, the burning building collapsed, and Arthas was delighted to see that the bodies had been burned to ashes.
"What the hell is this, what the hell is this!" Arthas roared to the sky, what the hell is going on here?
