Chapter 139: Town Horror - Death Knell Town

The night was thick, and the dim moonlight obscured everything. In the middle of the town, there is a desolate and dilapidated scene.

The houses in the town are dense, but under the erosion of negative energy for many years, they have become old, crooked, and deformed, like a gloomy beast hidden in the darkness, waiting for the food to come by itself.

The creaking sound of the wood squeezing and breaking from time to time added a touch of horror to the dead town. Many of the buildings have collapsed and are in ruins, while many more are still standing stubbornly.

Undead creatures of all colors dragged vague, obscure figures aimlessly through the streets. Occasionally, there will be a little green or blue firelight, which flickers quietly in the dark night.

......

"Hey, wake up, now that I've agreed to your request, I've come to this hell place (what a hell of a place). Then you should at least tell me where your home is?" Barrett asked, in a low voice, as he hid beside a cart full of dry hay, tapping his right hand on the small tombstone on the inside of his leather armor.

Before coming here, Barrett could only vaguely feel that something was indeed present in the tombstone. And it was only in the complete silence of the night, when he concentrated his whole energy, that he could occasionally vaguely feel that something in the tombstone was transmitting an emotion to him—hunger.

But when he entered the town, Barrett suddenly felt that the little ghost imprisoned in the tombstone seemed to be much more active than before. I don't know if it's because of the town, or because of the special influence of the negative energy plane.

"...... ahead," an ethereal, childish voice sounded in Barrit's head.

"Do you mean to go further down the street?" asked Barrett again.

"...... ahead," the voice repeated.

Well, it's good enough for a child turned ghost to be able to maintain a vague sense of sanity, so what else can I expect?

He shook his head, slumped past the hay cart, walked a little closer to a house, and then jumped into an empty corral. Then, he cautiously walked through the corral and cut the neck of another zombie. Because the zombie hiding in the corner found him and wanted to come over and give him a warm hug.

Barrett crept past the two buildings again, then pressed himself against the wall of a house with a garden, and cautiously leaned sideways, looking again at the wide main road in town:

Among the many types of undead creatures in the town, the largest number are all kinds of zombies.

Barrett had heard from Master Alvin that there were nearly 5,000 or so residents of the town who were sealed at the same time as the town. It happened very suddenly, and most of them did not survive the roar of negative energy. Even if a very few people survived due to their physique, they could not escape because the entire space was instantly sealed.

Of course, if you count the undead creatures that have been constantly invading from the negative energy plane in the past few hundred years, then the number of undead here will have to at least double several times.

Most of the zombies on the streets retain their clothes and appearances, and although their skin and complexion are gray, they are very little rotten. After all, those tiny creatures that decompose their bodies are also a kind of life, and they cannot survive in this pure dead space.

The closest to Barrett was a zombie in a tattered gray linen shirt. Its head rested on its shoulders, its eyes glazed over, its lips slightly open, and it only took a long time to take a slight step.

Not only that, but the zombie also holds a goat with four horns but no eyes. The goat's chest and abdomen are all gone, and only one spine is left on its body that connects its limbs to its head. But the goat was unaware of his situation, and just followed the slanted head of the zombie.

A vicious ghoul crawled out of a tavern-like building not far away, its head bobbing from side to side, greedily searching for anything that would ease its hunger curse.

When he saw the four-horned goat, the ghoul pounced on it with great speed, and in an instant he threw the goat to the ground, grabbed the goat's shriveled hind legs and devoured it.

The goat fell helplessly to the ground, its mouth slightly open, as if it wanted to bleat, but it didn't make a sound. And the zombie in front of it, still holding the rope in its hand, walked forward without noticing.

The rope was straightened, and instead of dragging the fallen goat, the zombie staggered back a few steps. Immediately afterwards, it stumbled forward again, stumbling on its hind legs again, and so on.

A ghost, with the appearance of a woman, floated softly through the air in the distance. Her spirit looked like a beautiful woman in a nightdress, with a sweet and touching countenance, and a different kind of coldness.

The ghost spun gracefully in the air before drifting towards the three-story building across from Barrett. Her pale cyan translucent spirit passed directly through the outer walls of the building's third floor, entered it, and vanished.

Barrett quickly retracted his head slightly, fearing that the female ghost who had entered the building opposite would find him, so he turned around and planned to leave the place and continue to find other safe paths into the town.

But just then, he suddenly heard a strange sound of horses' hooves coming from the street, but Barrett didn't want to pay attention to it. This enclosed space is not the same as the outside, and strange things happen one after another, so I don't care about the abrupt sound of horses' hooves.

But the sound of horses' hooves suddenly accelerated, followed by the sound of sharp blades tearing leather, followed by a terrible scream.

The scream forced Barrett to turn around again, and then he saw that the ghoul who had been eating the leg of lamb had been knocked out of the air by something.

The ghoul flying in mid-air crashed into the roof of a house next to Barrett and slid down the roof. Then he rolled on the ground twice along the inertia, and finally somehow reached Barrett's feet.

The ghoul's body was cut diagonally with a horrific wound that almost cut it in half, and there was no way for humans to survive in the face of such an injury, but this wound was not fatal to the undead creatures.

The ghoul who was attacked by the unknown creature propped up his front paws, then shook his head again, as if trying to get up. Before it could react, Barritt slashed its head with a backhand sword, leaving it to rest forever.

The sound of horses' hooves in the street gradually approached, and it seemed that the unknown creature attacking the ghoul did not want to let go of its prey.

Barrett stepped back with a light step, but the sound of the horse's hooves approached faster than his. Judging from the ghoul's wounds, the unknown creature's attack was very sharp, and Barrett was worried that he would not be able to deal with the other party in a short time, so he could only choose to dodge.

Here, there is only one Barrett alive, and the dead are probably in the thousands.

He turned a corner and found that the house with the garden actually had a back door. Barrett grabbed the handle of the back door and gently pulled it open. He quickly dodged into the room, then gently closed the door again.

After two heartbeats, the sound of horses' hooves reached the door directly. Barrett clenched his sword tightly in the room, intently watching the noise outside the door. Fortunately, the sound of the horse's hooves did not stop, but crossed the place at a fast speed, and ran into the distance.

After four heartbeats, the sound of the horse's hooves faded away, causing Barrett to exhale deeply.

However, he didn't notice that in this pitch-black room, in the corner where the moonlight could not reach no matter how hard he tried, there was still a humanoid creature standing upright. It stood motionless, like a lifeless statue.

The next moment, the statue suddenly opened its eyes and looked at Barrett's back.
