Chapter 494: The Recast Iron Bride (Part I)
When night came, curvy vine-like plants emerged from the dirt on the side of the road. The plants spread out on both sides with many small, sinuous branches, each with a round pearl-like fruit at the top.
The fruit emits a soft, misty glow, making this elven city feel like a dream.
There are similar fluorescent plants in the Misty Forest, but the light is not as bright as that of the Elven Sanctuary. Barrett reached out and carefully touched the nearest round fruit, wondering if it would continue to glow if it could be plucked.
After another quarter of an hour or so, Barrett finally saw the little mage come out of the magnificent palace at the end of the road. The little mage was accompanied by several elven guards in golden and green armor, and the guy nodded politely at the guards, smiled and waved his hand, as if refusing something, and then floated alone towards the position of the rainbow eucalyptus tree.
If it had been before, Barrett would have been unconcerned about the little mage's complicated tasks, but after the rabbit's words just now, he was a little curious about the outcome of this negotiation.
"Is the conversation going well?" he asked his companion.
"Not only did it go well, compared with the previous times, it can even be called a historic breakthrough. The little mage sat next to Barrett and looked in a good mood, "If I work harder, I might be able to make a big news." If I succeed, I'll get a huge amount of points, and maybe the guild will be happy and give me a ready-made magic tower!"
"I don't want the magic tower, because I want to make it myself, but I won't refuse the materials used to build it. In the early stage, let's just go up according to the number of two magic towers, and then talk about the lack of follow-up. β
"It seems that the situation is better than originally thought. Barrett thought of the lop-eared rabbit who had come forward to talk, and perhaps there were a few like her/him in that palace.
"Much better!" the little mage's words confirmed the barbarian's suspicion, "I thought I would fight alone, facing the overwhelming condemnation and denunciation of many elves, but I didn't expect it to end up being a rather heated debate. He danced and said, "There are several powerful figures in the elven royal family who have a very ambiguous attitude, although they did not explicitly express their support, but when others spoke out against it, they also helped me say a few kind words." β
"Of course, the main thing is on my own. The little mage said smugly, "It's a pity that you didn't go in, and you didn't see me standing in the council hall 'fighting the crowd'." β
"Sorry, I didn't understand too much. Barrett asked in surprise. Tongue wars?Is it impossible to "fight" with someone else with your tongue in front of a bunch of people in the hall?
"No, nothing, don't care. The little mage patted the brute inexplicably, "If you can really understand, it will be my turn to be surprised." But then again, something did happen that surprised me. β
Krees thought with a frown as he touched his slightly fluffy chin, "There are also some elves who have a strange attitude, they neither support nor oppose this issue, but take this opportunity to repeatedly urge the 'Queen of Valankoor' to make up her mind. β
"What determination?"
"Ha, you would never have thought of ......it," said the little mage, mysteriously, "the determination to go to war! not with us, nor with any other race on land, but with the Naga on the 'Sea of Sunrise'. β
"Why go to war with them?" Barrett asked, "and every war must have some reason." "No matter how cruel or funny that reason may be.
"Do you know the 'Kem Bay' on the eastern side of the Sanctuary Forest?" Chris reached out from the tip of the vine-like plant and plucked a round fruit the size of an apple.
Barrett watched the glowing round fruit fade into the little mage's hand, "I've never heard of 'Kem Bay', I'm not too familiar with the landscape to the east of the continent. β
"It's normal not to know, because of the elves' escape, so there are almost no ships in that area. The little mage said as he tried to put the fruit in his hand back on the branches of the vines.
After several unsuccessful attempts, he glanced to the left and right a few times, and while no one was paying attention, he instantly bent down and stuffed the round fruit that did not shine under the bench, and then straightened up, as if nothing had happened.
"'Kem' means 'sleeping' in Elvish, so you can also call it 'Sleepy Bay'. "The Sleepy Bay and some of the nearby land, as well as several medium-sized uninhabited islands around the bay, were originally within the confines of the Elven Sanctuary. I'm not saying that they're surrounded by the Sanctuary Forest, but that they're part of the Elven Territory, just like the Hanhai Grassland we passed by. β
"Are those places important?"
"It's not that important, there's nothing of value in that area, except for a small island around an unknown island that is rich in pearls, but that's about it. The elves did not station troops near the Sleeping Bay, and only a few scattered fishermen fished for pearls near the islands. Then the Naga of the sea came. God knows why they don't like to stay in the vast ocean, but they always like to run on land from time to time, which is really incomprehensible. Is life on land so attractive to them?"
The little mage stretched and continued, "Anyway, a few years agoβand I don't know exactly whenβthe Nagas suddenly took over the Sleeping Bay, and the islands and land around it, for some unknown purpose. β
"Shouldn't this kind of thing just send troops to recover the lost land?"
"It's not that simple. The little mage shook his head, "Even if this kind of thing happens in our human kingdom, it will still be a mess for a long time. As a simple example, there is a harsh swamp in a certain territory of the Griffon Kingdom. Ogres, gnolls, and countless goblins live there. These ugly creatures didn't harass the human villages beyond the swamp, and no one died at their hands. Then you, as a lord, will you send troops to exterminate them?"
"Maybe, if my strength is enough. Barrett replied.
"No matter how strong you are, you will die, and it is likely that a large number of clansmen will die. "The same is true of the Nagas relative to the elves. 'Queen Valankol' hesitated, did she really go to war with the guys in the sea for those less important places? β
"No matter how strong the elves in 'Lothlorin' are, they can't say that they can win this war, after all, the battle will take place near the bay and islands, which is very unfavorable for the elves. If you are not caught in the quagmire of war and cannot get out, then the situation may become even worse. β
It's complicated, Barrett nodded in agreement. It was not a battle of one person, nor a battle of a team of people, but between one race and another.
"And from what I've observed in the halls, there's a lot more to it than that. The little mage lowered his voice again and said, "Although the 'Queen of Valankol' is older than my grandmother's grandmother, she is very young for the elves, and she can't suppress the different voices of the various factions in the Holy Land. Elven druids alone were divided into several factions, not to mention other professions and temple sacrifices. β
"If you want me to say, we'd better outsiders stop talking about this on other people's territory, it's not good. Barrett gestured to the little mage with a look.
The elf druid is a master of manipulating plants, and the shade above his head can automatically open and close with his movements, not to mention other plants, and perhaps the rainbow eucalyptus tree behind him has already recorded all their conversations.
"Yes, you're right, let's not talk about this, let's go fix your sword. The little mage stood up, "The elves have already agreed to our use of the Moon Altar, and will send a few excellent craftsmen to help us along the way." However, they can't guarantee whether they will succeed, according to the elves, it depends on the 'Iron Bride' herself. β
