Chapter 66: Shortcomings

Vanka slid down in the sky like Mercury.

Deborah's hands meet in the middle, causing her sand dome to expand. Gwen tried her best to track the spider, but before she could give a second warning, it landed on the half-dome barrier - its salty body bypassed Yue's wall of fire, with only a handful of charred hair.

With the scream of metal, its front legs dropped again. This time, Deborah's metamorphosis is too slow to adapt to its supernatural speed, and Debbie is smart, but she doesn't give up.

In the blink of an eye, Gwen spontaneously activated her confession shield. After repeated use, even the talents she stole had reached a level of awakening sufficiently, and what she lacked now was tenacity, strength, and formal education.

Worried about what might happen to her friends if she used the Void, Gwen evokes her lightning, shows her non-Newtonian barrier, and feels her mana reserves depleted.

When!

There was a violent crash, followed by a knife-like blow to both legs, and the mana condensed in a dazzling way.

Cracks! Cracks crack the shield of the snow dome from one side to the other. Now, Gwen's shield is still there, but they don't know how long.

"!" Yue swore an oath, echoing Gwen's thoughts.

"Shield of Faith!" Elvia was not a confessor. Her shield spells are not powerful enough, but now, every stack helps.

Deborah's sand finally caught up, but Vanka effortlessly pulled its limbs out of the silica in her hands. The shapeshifters howl in frustration. Her control is still not enough, and she needs more advanced spells to trap the beast.

"It's too fast!" Deborah cried. "Damn it!"

Gwen felt both her shield arrows and the thunderstorm fire, but the air elemental spider was highly resistant to lightning.

Gwen's mind spun. Deborah's sand was too heavy, Gwen's lightning was useless, and Yue's fire was too slow to hit the sixteen-legged spider.

"If we can control it......" Xiao Yue focused on maintaining her wall of fire.

"We've got to try to slow down," Elvia shouted.

"I'm going to flash it!" Gwen shouted right above us. I need a hardcover for the party!"

"Nine o'clock!" Deborah struck first, gathering the sand around them to form a dome. "It's coming!"

Gwen watched as the sand climbed onto her magic shield, enclosing the girls in a half-dark sphere. At the last moment, she reached out and summoned an over-psychic flashbang spell through her summoning signal.

There was a low explosion.

The sound of something scribbling on the surface of the sand shield made Gwen's shield shake. Deborah lowered her voice, fending off the shockwave rippling across its surface, peeling off patches of sand, revealing the glassy dome of mana below.

Something that was frantically discarded at a great distance from their location. With a wave of her hand, Deborah knocked the sand shield down, revealing a blurry blade and limbs the size of a combine harvester in front of the girls.

As Guragon says, Vanka is a spider with extra limbs. White hair suddenly erupted from its armor-like body, throwing salt in all directions, slamming its forelimbs. From a safe distance, they could see that it had four retractable limbs, and the front legs were as fierce as a sickle. Every time it attacks, its legs swing in the air like a praying mantis shrimp.

Two bolts of lightning, one from the magic cloud and the other from Gwen's shield arrows, slammed into the beast overhead, sending the spider burst into sparks.

The creature spun and walked towards the girls.

"Flashbang!" Gwen loaded a sonic blast directly in front of the creature, motioning for the others to block their eyes. Vanka slammed and spun again.

Gwen recalls that tarantulas have sensitive hair on their front legs, which also rely on their incredible vision. If that's the case, her flashbang must be a sensory overload.

"That spell is really deceiving," Yue said with a wry smile. She moved her hand and cut open the mana she had collected in the last few laps.

"Coke oven!"

A total of six rays of light shot out of her hand, streaking into a blurry white area. There was a scream of pain, and then two legs flew out of the panicked spider, one gliding and rolling away, and the other jerking into the air.

"Flashbang!" the girls covered their ears as Gwen cast another spell.

"That poor spider. Avia's gaze was too painful. ”

"Fireball!" Xiao Yue cast her best spell and watched as Xiao Huodian flew towards the spider. After being impacted, its energy expands rapidly until it reaches its maximum blast distance. The force of the explosion was enough to tear off the entire part of the spider's carapace.

"Wait a minute. Before Gwen could detonate another bomb, she stopped the Caliban, who needed to feed themselves. ”

They watched as a cloud of dirt moved from under their feet towards the spider, which was now gliding weakly and too damaged to escape. When Caliban appears under its abdomen, there is a damp sound. With a creak, her creature pierced Vanka's carapace and invaded its body.

When a parasitic underworld worm digs out its internal organs in search of the creature core, the spider's legs suddenly emit indescribable pain. Then Caliban broke free from Vanka's face, which was steaming with Ikor and purple bile.

"Shah!" it declared with satisfaction.

"Oh my God, Gwen. "Yue hadn't seen Kaliban before.

Elvia's face turned pale, and she covered her mouth for fear of losing the battle to control the contents of her stomach.

Deborah was about to say something quip to the other two girls, but a sudden tremor beneath them threw her off balance.

The vast white salt pans suddenly cracked, and the tectonic plates of salt moved and moved, like a huge thing beginning to break through the earth's crust.

"!" Xiao Yue fell to her knees, losing her balance. "What the hell is that?"

"Jump!" Gwen grabbed Elvia's waist. "Now!"

Deborah reacted immediately, she hadn't worked with Gwen for a month, at least not in some way. She grabbed Xiao Yue's waist and activated her jumping spell.

Two girls, each with a companion, jumped up from where they were standing. Gwen activates the feather drop on her ring and uses a spell to drop the feather on Elvia. Instead, Deborah uses her jumps to do horizontal movements, and she and Xiao Yue lunge about 10 meters away from where they were standing.

A set of three-meter-long front legs protrude from crushed salt. Gwen winced and looked down. She was bleeding profusely because a claw had cut her calf. When the pain eventually spread to her nerves, Gwen nearly fainted. Her left leg was a mess - where Vanka had hit, sliced her to the bone, revealing the white shoots that still attached to her muscles.

"Elvia!" Gwen shouted. She didn't know how she would react. Their current engagement is the first time she has been injured in a fight with a monster. She couldn't even imagine what would have happened if they didn't have a doctor.

Underneath her, a sudden vertical movement disoriented Avia, but Gwen's sudden scream woke her out of the chaos. With her hands on her friend's laps, the petite priest recited her best incantation.

"Heal a moderate wound!"

A surge of positive energy poured out of Gwen's body, immediately stitching up her wounds, mending her skin, and making her feel an itch that she couldn't scratch.

Gwen groaned. The pain and itching were so intense, sandwiched between two extremes, she didn't know whether to scream or cry.

By now, she knew that her sudden lightning storm had failed.

Not far away, Deborah was coughing up blood. She used her body to protect Yue, consuming the kinetic energy of Vanka No. 2's steel-like forelimbs. Only now did she realize that a claw had bitten her bronze flesh and might have broken her collarbone.

In contrast, Xiao Yue was sent to skid six meters, losing her sense of direction, but safe.

"Damn, the little mischievous isn't Vanka!" Yue shouted at the girls, speaking plainly. "This big pitcher is Vanka!

At the same time, Gwen still had more than ten seconds to talk to the floor. Underneath her, spiders were trying to break free from the crusty dirt. From the cracks, she could tell that it had formed a system of tunnels beneath the salt lake, building its lair somewhere deep and terrifying.

Within her detection spell range, the creature's mana signature is burned. It is the apex of the sixth layer, or at least the fifth layer. The little spider must be its mate!

Gwen felt a kink of fear break her spine. If they don't kill it here, they'll all die!

"Deborah!" Gwen shouted to stop!

When the spider's head is revealed, Gwen drops her signature spell in front of its 16 twinkling eyes.

"Flashbang!"

The creature screamed, but her spells were clearly not that effective. The bigger the monster, the better the resistance.

"Shape the Earth!" Deborah grunted, her bruised body making her even more painful. The sand quickly filled the space it was trying to get up from the earth, preventing the creature from breaking through the salt layer.

"Yue!"

Yue infuses the remaining mana into the alpha attack.

"Damn Firestorm!" she screamed and gave her most powerful call, making a motion that mimicked some kind of immense force pushing toward Earth.

Above the giant spider, a fiery storm formed a vortex and began to rain a hissing flame that pierced the trapped Vanka.

The spider's shaggy hair immediately burst into flames, and crusted pieces of salt slid down the shell, revealing the chitin shell underneath.

"Ariel!" Gwen ordered, and the silver mongoose fired a barbed bolt of lightning into Vanka's face. A second later, the spider's bulbous body is filled with crawling electricity, electrocuting its target.

"I can't help it!" Deborah cried, she was almost going crazy, her glittering skin covered in salt. Unlike Gwen, Deborah has not eaten nutrient-rich crystals and wild animals to increase her reserves.

"I'm coming out too!" Xiao Yue's face was full of salt and exhaustion. She barely made it to the fourth layer, meaning that her fire variant in the fourth layer of the ice storm overburdened her mind and her still-developing body.

"Lightning strike!" Gwen tried to stage a coup d'Γ©tat.

Vanka 2 was set on fire. Dozens of lightning bolts shot into the spider's chest one after the other. The first few were guided by Ariel's mane, dancing towards its eyes, but harmlessly dancing on its carapace. The next few fare better, penetrating deep into the spider's body and wreaking havoc on its nerves.

Smoke began to rise from the faces of the two Vanka. If a spider can scream, then it may now yell incoherently.

"Haha-" Gwen said panting, still dripping with sweat.

Wow! Vanka broke free.

The girls screamed, including Gwen.

Ariel heroically charged at the creature, but it was too slow and too small. Vanka rushed straight towards Gwen and Elvia, its round body covered with salted hair, its legs raked on the ground, breaking through the salt and finding its purchase on the rocks below.

"Caliban!" Gwen gave a spiritual command before calling for help. "Elvia, I need energy! Fill me up!"

Gwen then put her arms around Avia and crouched down to minimize her sides.

"Empty shield!"

Gwen had never done a non-Newtonian air shield before, although now that she did, she immediately felt herself hollowed out, and with sheer willpower, she kept herself awake. They overestimate themselves. As a political party, they are too inexperienced. They have no confessors and no flights. Their talents make them too arrogant, if they are to pay the price.

The truth is, a team of co-mages with flying and earth shields won't have any trouble with Vanka. They can tank, they can fly kites, they can crush Vanka to ashes. In contrast, Gwen's team has two glass cannons, two non-tank summons, one outside the tank, and a healer who has not yet learned AOE healing. Sure, they have insane damage output, but if the first attack fails, so what?

Gwen felt a heavy blow to her shield.

In the crook of her arm, Elvia groaned, her life energy stolen by the link between the healer and the void mage.

Outside, Xiao Yue watched helplessly as the truck-sized spider flew towards her friends. She lost her mana and felt a helplessness she had never experienced with Alessia.

She could see that Deborah was also in a sudden panic. Debbie once said that she could be their tank, but she turned out to be incompetent and ill-equipped. Shapeshifters can do a lot of things, but they can't fill the irreplaceable role of the abandoner.

Suddenly, without warning, Gwen turned into a ball of darkness and drank all the light.

Vanka herself seems to be aware of its imminent fear. It tried to stop its momentum, but it was too fast, too heavy, too focused on its own cheeky, angry charge.

The girls watched as the creature glided, legs crossed, and crashed into Gwen's Void Shield. Its arms make a screeching sound, but it doesn't make a screeching sound.

It's horrible. The sound of Vanka's limbs hitting the salt was heard, but where it hit the shield, there was only a silky silence.

The impact was worse than Gwen had imagined. She felt her mana and vitality fall like a stone into a deep, dry well. If Avia wasn't here, she would most likely lose consciousness and her body would react to avoid being eaten herself.

Her host was right.

The air shield is too dangerous.

It's a mixture of opposing abilities and synergies.

Even if she wins, it will be a costly victory, winning a battle that ends in the same way. But what if her enemies survived, and could a weak, exhausted, devastated Gwen continue to protect her Eve?

But luck was on Gwen's side. Now that the tip of the sword has lost its front legs, the Vank II has lost all its delicacy.

"Ulnk! hurry!" the spider's jaws moved frantically, making the sound that Guragon had said, was it an angry wombat arching a parrot, or a kookaburra?

"Caliban!" Gwen shouted again, hoping that God would bless her lovely companion for success.

The spider tries to orient its body, but due to the loss of limbs, its body is severely unbalanced. Compared to Wanjia No. 1, Wanjia No. 2 now appears dull and slow.

Gwen watched as the ground below it cracked, revealing Caliban, a black dart against the white salt. A "crunch" was heard, and her familiar thump hit the second creature in the abdomen.

It's over, and Gwen realizes the danger they are now in. She and her friend only need to survive the next 15 seconds or so.

Elvia's self-sacrifice was at least half rejuvenated. As Caliban made her way through the creature's guts, Gwen felt the pound of another vibration, strengthening her trembling body.

"Deborah, pillars!" shouted Gwen as she flew through the air towards her companions Eve, hold on!

Gwen's miraculous survival reinvigorates her ranks. Following the order, Deborah put her hand on the now broken salt lake and cast a spell to erect dozens of pillars to block their enemies.

Wan seemed to know that his life would soon be taken from him. Something slowly but inevitably approached its cephalothorax, and as it advanced, its organs disappeared with it. When it reaches its core, Vanka, the Queen of the Salt Lake, will cease to exist.

The spider rushed at the girls, pushing the pillar away. Its massive body crashed through Deborah's barrier like paper. With the help of a second wind, the girl retaliates with a magic missile and an olecranon. Gwen made a point of emphasizing a few flashes to slow things down.

Then, during the attack, the spider stopped. Its limbs were broken all at once.

The carapace on its head was shaking. Gwen felt her unicorn amulet get hot.

"Shah, Shah!" Caliban appeared triumphantly, purple bodies shining with spiders Iko and Gore. It is completely immersed in the vitality of Vanka, and the fat waistline glistens greedily.

"Well done, Kali!" Gwen cheered as it jumped off the corpse.

Ariel slipped away expectantly in front of Gwen.

"You too, buddy!" she stroked Ariel's fur, which purred over and over again.

Caliban approached and began to twitch.

"Oh my God, what is it doing now?" Elvia swallowed the vomit that came out of her throat, a terrifying mask on her face.

With a sticky throwing motion, Caliban spewed out two mana cores twice the size of his fist.

"Oh!" Yue stretched out his hand and took a core. "Pray for the spider elves, yo!"

The girls held their breath.

Nothing.

There is no soul in it.

Yue tried the second core.

Nothing.

The atmosphere of victory immediately turned cold. Deborah's luck aside, the possibility of finding a soul is almost impossible.

"However, such a large core, at least two hundred hard drives?" "The father-in-law was very appreciative of their stolen goods. They talked a lot of money in jungle safaris, especially the trophies of the expedition. "You know, they usually break. Well done, Caliban!"

Caliban writhed in disgust.

Gwen touched the amulet underneath her blouse. As before, in the corner of her eye, she recalled something moving towards her from the corpse. The mirage seemed to dissipate halfway through, leaving only a vague, benevolent sense of warmth. Gwen realizes that one day, she will question her charm to others. But her father seemed to know nothing about it, and she doubted that if the lazy Maya knew the benefits of it, he would have given it to her so generously. What would OPA think? When she wore it publicly, he didn't say anything. Was her unicorn amulet considered a non-magical item to others? just a souvenir?

"Put it in the bag," Yue said to Gwen. Gwen performed as Yue asked, placing the core in her storage ring.

The girls watched as Xiao Yue walked up to the spider and began to cut off its limbs.

"What are you doing?" asked Elvia, her blue eyes wide open and innocent.

Xiao Yue took out a piece of crystal flesh as thick as her arm from her split leg.

"Fuck it," she sang, what a beauty this bastard is. ”

The girls could tell she was drooling.
