Chapter Ninety-Four: The Hedgehog' Castle
Sir Yarman's residence is a simple castle.
The castle is located on a small hillside in the village, although the area is not large, and the whole is not grand, but there are many battlements, towers, watchtowers, and moats.
The walls of the castle were made of heavy stones, and steel spear heads with outward tips inserted into the stones. Many of the guns have been bent and scrapped, but they still show the world their hideousness.
On each of the four corners of the city wall stands a round tower. The battlements of the walls were also covered with spear-like spikes that slanted downward, a defensive device that was not very useful against human attackers, but it was a miracle against those who were good at climbing but had low intelligence.
The moat on the outer edge of the castle, though not much wider than a stream, at least served as a defensive side. The gate was divided into two tiers, one with a pitch-black iron fence and the other with a sturdy oak gate and a thick layer of iron.
The walls of the city are covered with thorny vines, and the green vines give this simple castle a little breath of life with iron and blood.
Before the Misty Castle was built, the beast tide in the Misty Forest had invaded the hinterland of the Griffin Kingdom countless times, Barrett looked at this castle full of iron and blood, and subconsciously imagined in his mind the scene that happened on this castle when the beast tide came hundreds of years ago:
Inside the castle, the bells rang rapidly, and the heavily armed knights shouted for the guards, allowing them to run quickly up the walls. The trebuchets in the open space were loaded with stones, and the stones were wrapped in a layer of cotton cloth soaked in tung oil, and the guards with torches looked at the observers on the towers, nervously waiting for orders.
Outside the castle, the villagers ran towards the castle screaming, and behind them were all kinds of strange monsters that were pouring in like a tide. From time to time, villagers howled and were thrown to the ground by monsters, and blood accompanied by excited roars splashed the ground.
The guards on the city wall kept shooting arrows outward, and from time to time some stones wrapped in flames were thrown out of the castle, trying their best to block the footsteps of the monsters, but the beast tide was still approaching rapidly.
When the monster was about to storm the castle, the drawbridge of the castle was raised, and the villagers who could not enter the castle in time could only cry loudly, helplessly waiting for the slaughter to come. With the last of her strength, a mother threw her baby into the air, and the baby landed on the side of the drawbridge and slid down the raised bridge into the castle, while the mother was bitten off half of her body by the monster chasing after her.
The beasts crowded towards the walls, and some struggled and fell into the moat. Others, with their sharp claws, pierced into the stones of the city walls and slowly climbed upwards. These climbing monsters were either cut through the abdomen and claws by the sharp spear tips on the wall, or shot by arrows shot from the battlements and towers, and the only few monsters wanted to jump up to the city with their bouncing power, but they were also pierced by the iron spears on the battlements, and then fell with the weight of their bodies, even if there were still some monsters jumping on the city wall, they were also killed on the spot by the guards led by the knights......
As a human, in Barrett's imaginary battle, it is not surprising that it ended in a human victory, and although he added a little pathos to it, it did not affect the overall ending - this ancient castle stands in the midst of the beast tide to this day.
It was a hedgehog with steel spikes, and Barrett couldn't help but praise the castle in front of him.
In the past three or four hundred years, most of the castles built by human beings have lost their original defensive value, just to meet the comfort and show off of the castle owner, and its focus is to advocate comfortable, beautiful, and atmospheric, which should not only show the noble status of the owner, but also facilitate the banquet and gathering of the nobles.
Even in modern times, there have been many lords and fiefdom nobles who do not build castles, but live a more comfortable and comfortable manor-like life.
At this time, the drawbridge over the moat was lowered and the two gates of the castle were opened. Barrett led his mount and followed Hannah up the drawbridge to the city gates.
The barbarian looked at the shooting holes in the battlements, and subconsciously put his left hand on the 'Iron Bride', but fortunately no one took a bow or a crossbow from the battlements to aim at them, not even near the city gate.
And so they walked into the castle.
In the center of the castle is a huge inner fort, around which are also built several scattered houses, each window of the inner fort is surrounded by iron mesh, and the roof is shiny, which seems to be covered with lead plates, which can effectively prevent fire.
The open space around the inner fort is large, some of which are planted with fruit trees, others that have been turned over and appear to have planted crops. Not far away there was a blacksmith-like building and a stable, but there was no sound of striking iron coming from the blacksmith's shop, and there was no sign of horses in the stables, but there were a few 'bleating' sheep cries from the depths.
Not far from the stable is a chicken coop, around which a flock of hens and chicks ruffle leisurely in the grass looking for bugs. Not far from the chicken coop is a well made of bluestone, and there is a sleeping orange cat on the well.
What Barrett didn't expect was that the first guy to greet them in the castle was not a human, but a majestic white goose that came out of the corner inside the city gate. The white goose walked up to Barrett with a steady walk on his belly, lifted his long neck, quacked twice, and then stared at the brute motionlessly, as if waiting for his answer.
Forehead......
Should I say "hello" at this time, or should I introduce myself first? Barrett looked at the white goose in front of him, and felt a little overwhelmed. He knew that many farmers would choose to use white geese to take care of their homes, but this guy in front of him seemed to want to interrogate him.
Hannah, who was next to Barrett, ignored the white-winged "guard", and walked to the gate of the inner fort in a few steps, grabbed the iron buckle door in the shape of a griffin's head, and slammed it three times compactly and evenly.
The White Goose was very unhappy with Hannah's neglect, and he also moved to the door a few steps, spread his wide wings and waved vigorously, and his mouth was not the first polite "quack", but "quack, quack, quack, quack", as if expressing its displeasure with Hannah.
Quack, Barrett also secretly screamed twice in his heart, and the object and content of the expression were exactly the same as the white goose.
After a while, the door of the inner fort was opened, and an old man in a simple linen robe walked out of the inside, "Who are you looking for?"
"Hello, we're here for Sir Yarman. Hannah wielded a sword with a solemn expression and a serious expression, as if she were a lady of decent birth, "We have come here at the invitation of the Benson family to assist Sir Yarman in solving the problems of the hot springs. β
"You're sent by the Benson family?" the old man's expression froze, then he was confused again, he looked Hannah up and down, and then over to Barrett, who Hannah was looking at. Then, like the white goose, he stretched his neck and set his eyes on Burton and a few others who were not far away.
"Just a few of you?" the confusion on his face seemed to grow even deeper.
"Rest assured, we are a very strong team of adventurers. Hannah turned sideways, stretched out her hand to beckon Barrett forward, and pointed at the brute with a proud expression, "Because we are elite adventurers." β
Am I an elite adventurer, Barrett thought helplessly. He handed the reins to Burton, a good Samaritan, and then walked up to the old man, raised his head, and took a deep breath, allowing his tall, muscular body to swell again.
The size does not determine everything, but in the eyes of ordinary people, the size of the block is equal to the strength.
The old man looked up at Barritt, and the doubt in his eyes was a little, "The adults have trained the militia, and it is estimated that they will not be able to come back until the sun is about to set." He said to the crowd, "If you don't mind, you can come in and wait." As for your carriages and mounts, they may be parked in the stables. There is enough forage in the stables for the horses to rest. But don't rob the innermost sheep, they don't have a good temper. β
"Thank you. Hannah nodded briefly and followed the old man into the castle. Burton, a good Samaritan, followed the coachman to the stables, while Barrett and the two young men followed in Hannah's footsteps.
After walking through a narrow corridor through the doorway, the old man led the group to the hall of the inner fort. The hall is bright and spacious, surrounded by wire-covered windows that provide enough light for the hall.
The dΓ©cor in the hall is as modest as the exterior of the castle, and many of the furnishings and furnishings seem to have been used for a long time. The walls were lined with weapons and portraits, each with a pair of irises against a giant claw in the upper right corner, which Barrett guessed was Sir Jarman's family coat of arms.
"You can wait here for Lord Yarman to return. The old man pointed to the long table on the side of the hall and said, "Forgive me for not being able to accompany me, there are still some things to attend to in the castle." If you need anything, feel free to call me. It's just that I hope you don't move around. Oh, I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Sir Yarman's butler, you may call me 'Sebastian'. The old man smiled mysteriously.
