Chapter 216: The Cellar of Spirits (Part II)
After dinner, Barrett led a few members of the 'Good Helper' adventure team along the underground passage in the gray dwarf chief's house towards the square of the alien village.
Out of habit and convenience, the squares and shops in the Grey Dwarf Village were built underground. Its magnificent underground part is what the 'Spirits Cellar' really looks like.
The bald-headed gray dwarf village chief was not with Barrett and the others, and he said that he would continue to take care of his precious tobacco plants while it was dark and cool.
Although it was pitch black outside, the 'dark vision' talent common to the underworld races allowed them to move easily in pure darkness.
However, this wide passage is not dark and lightless, and it is filled with lichens, mosses and other luminescent plants that emit a cold phosphorescence, as well as clusters of fungal mushrooms. That hazy, blue or purple glimmer helps people who do not have dark vision to move forward smoothly in the same path.
"Hey, Barrett, can I ask you a question?" Weimar's voice came from behind him.
"What's the problem?" replied the brute, turning his head sideways.
"Hmm......" Lord False Sir suddenly hesitated, "I wonder how you managed to stew the leg of lamb so deliciously with a rudimentary iron pot?"
"Ha, good question! The secret is pepper, and stewed beef and mutton must be inseparable from this! In addition to parsley and ginger. Of course, when stewing lamb, you can't do without rye beer anyway, and the time for carrots and potatoes to be put in the pot should also be controlled. Barrett smiled and replied, "Are you sure you're asking about this?"
"Hey, hey. Weimar was a little embarrassed, "What I actually want to ask is, you originally planned to go to the Underworld alone, so what did you want to do when you went to such a dangerous place alone? ”
The young man was smarter than Barrett had thought, and at least he knew that when it came to adventures, a companion with a secret was sometimes more dangerous than a monster.
"There's nothing you can't say, it's just a little complicated to explain. Barrett groaned, "In the final analysis, it's actually that I'm going to go to the underworld and complete something that has been hanging in my heart for a long time, and if I can, take revenge by the way." ”
"Revenge?" the questioner this time was William, "to whom?"
It seems that they do have some doubts about me, Barrett thought to himself. But this is also normal, after all, everyone is not familiar with it.
"The object of revenge is not yet known. This is not a good answer, but Barrett really doesn't know the answer in his heart, "Maybe it's the Stone Barbarian Blind Clan, maybe it's the Mind Flayer, maybe it's the Drow Elf, when you get there, you should have the answer." Don't worry, my affairs won't affect your mission, and we'll find a tavern to discuss it slowly. When I'm done, I'll go on my own. ”
Barrett had already shared the quest with the 'Good Helpers' adventure party through the parchment paper they used to pick up the quest. He doesn't care too much about the reward of the task, but he still likes the soul energy rewarded when completing the task.
"No, that's not what I meant. The young men behind him seemed to want to say something more, but at that moment, a noisy sound of footsteps came from one of the many forks in the road beside the passage.
The footsteps were getting closer and closer, and the next moment, a gray dwarf wearing a dark purple robe and a full beard came out of it. And behind this gray dwarf, there are also two black beetles that are quite large.
The two black beetles were half a circle larger than the goblin's riding goat. They are covered in a shiny black, chitin carapace, and their jagged jaws open and close with a creaking sound. One of the black beetles had several worn-out wooden boxes tied to its sides, while the other had several cloth-covered baskets hung on it.
When Barrett first came here, he had seen this large, docile black bug. They were bred in captivity by the Grey Dwarves, a kind of heavy tool like cattle and horses. Some of the larger beetles can even be used as mounts, but they require a very special saddle.
"Shhh "Visiting?"
"Passing through, ready to spend the night in the village. Barrett replied, "Since it's not time to rest, I'm going to go to the square for a drink." ”
The gray dwarf nodded, and glanced in the direction where Barrett and the others had come from, "Have you found a place to live?"
"The village chief agreed that we should stay with him. ”
"Agmanch? He's always very enthusiastic. After the gray dwarf finished speaking, he frowned and looked at Barrett, "Hey, I see you're a little familiar, have we met? Have you been here before?" ”
I once kicked you off the wall, "No, I'm here for the first time, we're both firsts. Barrett replied with a blank face. He had already erected the collar of his leather armor to block his scarred throat.
"Maybe I'm mistaken, but you humans all look similar anyway. In fact, I sometimes can't even tell your gender. The bearded gray dwarf shrugged his shoulders with a smile, "The square is not far ahead, and I have a grocery store on the opposite side of this passage, so if you are interested, you can come and have a look." I have a lot of good things here, all of which are rare in the ground, and you surface creatures should rarely see them. ”
"Okay, definitely. Barrett politely perfunctory......
When you come out of the passage, you are greeted by an extremely spacious and huge underground space. The space has obvious traces of artificial excavation, and caves of various sizes have been carved out of the surrounding rock walls.
Each cave is a shop, and although there are not a few of them, they are quite homogeneous, most of them are blacksmith shops, taverns and the like.
The 'Spirits Cellar' is a single-function temporary resting place.
Because the Grey Dwarves are a race that, like their cousins, the Dwarves, is very good at blacksmithing. And the forging of high-quality weapons is the specialty of this race. Just like the capital of the Grey Dwarf Kingdom, 'Glextug', it is also known as the 'City of Blades'.
In the center of the underground space grows a giant mushroom larger than a hundred-year-old oak tree. The majestic mushroom glows with a faint, yet long, soft purple light that illuminates the space.
Many gray dwarves shuttle through this underground space, some gray dwarves lead black beetles, others lead mules and horses, and it seems that life here is also evolving with the times.
Barrett and the others weren't the only visitors here, as he took a cursory look and saw that there were still some humans in the subterranean space, as well as a handful of drow elves. Humans dressed as merchants walked in and out of the blacksmith shop, seemingly discussing and comparing prices, while the drows, standing near the giant mushrooms, unsure of what they were discussing.
Barrett made his way to a nearby tavern, ready to have a drink before taking a break, and briefly discussed their tasks with a few young men.
