Chapter Forty-Nine: The Griffith Battle Group
"Help!" Sonia shouted. But she was echoed by a denser scream in the distance. The fleeing crowd is already in trouble.
Rana crashed head-on into five or six goblins. He was startled and killed three of them with a swing of his sword in an instant, but more enemies came from behind, grabbed Fiona's waist-length hair and dragged her deeper into the garden.
Lana hurriedly drew his dagger and stabbed it into the eye socket of a goblin, then snatched an axe and swung it to rescue Fiona. But as soon as he turned around, he was hit the back of the head.
Lana felt his eyes glaze and he fell to the ground. Before he could get back to his feet, several sharp knives stabbed into his body. The other Shutlors present resisted like crazy, but immediately fell to their knees in the midst of the siege on all sides.
Not far away, Sonya's delicate face was cut open by the bushes around her, but the goblins who grabbed her didn't care, no matter how much she kicked and dragged her into the bushes.
Suddenly, Sonia noticed that the power that had held her was gone, followed by the sound of grass and trees. A hand grabbed her by the shoulders and lifted her up from the bushes.
"Quick, follow me!" Galadia grabbed two shoddy daggers from somewhere, grabbed Sonya's hands and ran outside.
"What should you do?"
"There's nothing more everybody!" said Galadia with lightning knocking down two goblins who pounced, "The mountain monster just called the police to lure us out of the trap, and the others were either caught or surrounded. The road to the main fort was full of ambushes, and we had to run outside. β
"Ming...... Understood," Sonia hurriedly followed, "we take refuge along the outer walls, which are not easy to ambush and can meet Griffith as soon as possible. β
"If he's still alive," Galadia gritted with her silver teeth, "this fool is likely to be the first to be attacked." β
......
Brownie 2887 hid in a dark corner, watching the goblins besiege the small group of new students, his distinctive eyes shining with wisdom and restraint, not at all like a lowly emissary. The midshipmen who protected them were at best clothed in half-chain mail, and several had already fallen during the siege. Two goblins, dressed as shamans, stood beside it, silent as stone statues.
Under his control, the hordes of goblins have captured several of the new students who escaped from the library, and in the rare case of not being violent against the girls on the spot.
"Shaman, take a team of warriors to intercept the two fleeing prey," 2887 spotted Galadia and immediately sent out pursuers, "the others retreated with their existing prey." β
"But there are still humans resisting," one of the goblin shamans objected, "and the warriors will soon take them down." β
In the middle of the garden, Minerva's newborns had scattered into several small circles after being hit head-on, resisting with the various spells they had mastered. Under the command of one or two cores, they turn the ground around them greasy or muddy, unleashing fireballs to burn or give life to vines to attack goblins, making it impossible for them to take them.
"There's no time left, the human counterattack is just around the corner," 2887 shook his head, "one bird in hand is better than a hundred birds in the forest." β
......
Sonia tripped over her floppy robes and fell to the cold rock with a thud. Behind them, a team of goblins had already chased after them.
Galadia took off her college robe and tore it at the hem of her long skirt, revealing her legs in white stockings.
Can't run away...... If she was alone, Galadia could easily get away from her pursuers. But Sonia was already exhausted and out of breath, and it was hard to hold on any longer.
"Galadia, run!" Sonia gasped as she took off her robes as she picked up a rock and grabbed it in her hand, glancing decisively at the darkness beneath the cliff, "I'm not going to let them catch me." β
"That's not going to work," Galadia turned and held Sonya's head down, hiding her behind a crumbling boulder on the city wall, and draped their robes over her, "My battle requires constant shifts, and you wait here." If they catch you, don't resist, I'll be back soon to save you. β
Having done all this, Galadia drew two captured daggers and deftly leaped onto the wall.
"The shaman who led the team immediately noticed the elf's movements and immediately pursued him.
"Trees, listen to my call,
"Vines, echoing my voice,
"I confess,
"The enemy in front of you is the enemy of nature!"
Galadia leaped towards the inside of the wall. Below her, the lush trees spread their canopies to embrace her, and the thick vines on their trunks swooped down on the goblins like snakes.
Four or five goblins were immediately caught, and the remaining goblins swarmed down the crumbling walls and rushed towards the elves who came down from the trees.
Galadia first noticed a distinctive cloaked goblin jumping out of the darkness. It outflanked a topless goblin on the left and right.
Is this guy any different?βGaladia kicked one away, then swung her dagger against the cloak goblin's dagger, and plunged the other into its throat.
"Woo!" the battered goblin spat out a mouthful of foul-smelling blood at the elf.
Galadia hurriedly dodged to the side. Suddenly, another goblin wearing a cloak appeared behind the cloak goblin, and the same outfit made her think she was hallucinating.
The second cloak goblin unfolded his bow and shot at the elf almost as soon as he could. Unable to dodge, Galadia was shot in the shoulder and hurriedly threw a short knife at the archer goblin, knocking it out of the air.
There was a sharp pain in the arrow's shoulder, and the elf's keen sense of touch magnified the pain. Before she could be surprised by the goblin's cooperation, a third cloaked goblin flashed from behind her slain companion.
No, it's not! How many are there! Galadia was shocked, her weapons had run out, and she didn't know how to defend herself against the enemy for a while.
The third cloak goblin swung his club at the elf, slamming it on Galadia's shoulder. She dislocated her arm on the spot and fell to her knees screaming.
Keen perception amplifies the perception of pain. Galadia was in terrible pain, and subconsciously raised her hands to protect herself.
The goblin had no idea of pity, and smashed it at her with a wooden stick. The stick struck Galadia in the first blow, then splattered blood on her pretty forehead. Several goblins followed, smashing sticks and rocks at her.
Galadia was bruised and bruised by the torrential rain, and fell to the ground covered in blood. In her blurred vision, the goblin trapped by the vines had broken free and surrounded her from all sides.
"Help~" Galadia struggled desperately to get up from the ground, but her hands were weak and she couldn't exert her strength, and her mouth was full of bitter taste. What lingered in her mind was the harrowing fate of the women she had seen in the Goblin Lair and the Mage Tower.
"Who's going to save me......"
The goblin with the wooden stick grinned and looked at his prey. The slender fairy fell to the ground without resistance, and the scenery flowed through the split skirts. The goblin subconsciously reached out to the alluring scenery.
"Click~"
Suddenly, there was the sound of bones breaking in the darkness. One of the goblins on the periphery had its neck snapped and fell to the ground.
Before its companion could react, a tall figure flashed in front of them. Two swinging blades slashed two heads.
Griffith emerges from the darkness and lunges towards the goblin with the wooden club.
The frightened foe hurriedly withdrew his hand, and before it could adjust its position, Griffith stabbed it in the stomach with a sword, killing it.
Just then, there was a crackling sound in the air, and an arc of lightning shot towards the midshipman. Griffith, who had just repelled the enemy, accidentally hit one by one, and both weapons flew out.
"Boom!" the Goblin Shaman pressed his hand on the staff made of dead wood and continued to chant towards the Cadet Knight. The remaining goblin warriors also pounced on them from all directions.
"Electro-based magic?Goblins have such a rare ability to cast spells?" Griffith was blackened by the electricity, and his hands and feet were burned in multiple places. He hurried to throw a dagger at his enemy, then grabbed a goblin that pounced on him and twisted its neck.
Although Shotolar has good magic resistance, Griffith is not able to block the enemy's spell casting or completely avoid damage when there is only one person.
If the Goblin Shaman's lightning attack is unchecked, he could be paralyzed by one more shot.
Griffith swung the captured goblin and swung it like a wooden club, knocking over two enemies who pounced on him. At the same time, he stared at the shaman's mouth and watched as the thunder and lightning gathered on the staff.
It will be too late for the lightning to take shape.
Spells tend to have long syllables at the end.
As the shaman uttered an inexplicable incantation, a piece of lightning exploded. But Griffith threw the goblin corpse in his hand at the shaman first.
"Woohoo!" the shaman exclaimed, watching as the corpse crashed into his staff, and then the lightning exploded, swallowing himself too.
"Crackle!"
A bright light startled all the creatures present. By the time the light had cleared, the Goblin Shaman had fallen to the ground in smoke.
The injured and undead goblin shaman struggled to push away the corpse that was pressed against him, trying to break free. At that moment, a foot stomped heavily on its chest.
"Do you speak the language of a human?" asked Griffith, who had killed all the goblins present, to the shaman who had only half a life left. There were so many suspicious points about tonight's attack that he needed to know as much as he could.
"Stupid...... Lackey!" the shaman said viciously, spitting out human words clearly.
"Who sent you, and who is the commander?" Griffiths stomped hard, and the shaman's charred face immediately became more distorted.
"Toward, toward......"
"What did you say?" Griffith diminished slightly, wanting to hear what the shaman was saying.
"To this vain world......
"Initiation - Rebellion!"
The words were as clear as thunder, and Griffith jumped up like a rabbit in a trap.
The goblin shaman tore off a string of beads from his waist with all his might, and the fierce flames quickly engulfed it and the corpse of the goblin warrior, turning into a blazing fireball.
......
"The goblin shaman set himself on fire? or anything like that?" said a heavily armed Ophelia with an eyebrow.
By her side, all the first-year Shotorals were fully armed. Although they rushed to their aid and rescued many people, seven girls, including Sonya, who was hiding on the city wall, were taken captive.
Rana and several other Shultolars, who were fending off the goblins, were seriously injured and fell into a coma, and Galadia was also seriously injured.
Griffith took the shield and spear handed by Midianmaia, and the anger in his eyes almost erupted: "They can't run fast with the captives, we are now in armor and pursue, and now we are leaving." β
Associate Professor Veronos, who led the team, has taken over the command and rescue of the scene, and arranges for the treatment of the injured. He silently glanced at the sixteen first-year Shuttorials who were lined up neatly: "The number of professors is too small, and this little manpower is only enough to strengthen the defense now, and you are the only ones who will pursue it." I have informed the school that Professor Lourdes and Ranger Kroger will be coming to your aid soon.
"Remember your Defence Against the Dark Arts lessons, the dangers of the Whispering Forest don't just come from the enemies in front of you. β
Strong support from the school will come soon, but it's a goblin, and every second counts.
"Understood," Griffith nodded, turning to the Shultolars, "and we're going now." Ladies and gentlemen, I ask for command, and if anyone has any objections, please raise them now?"
Everyone looked at Griffith with non-relenting eyes. So far, no one has shown more determination and bravery than he did against the tentacle sea monster, and no one has just achieved a mountain monster battle that is likely to be Sequence 7 like him.
"Let's go!" said Griffith, toward the dark forest, "and make these bastards pay for their folly!"
......
The goblins fled into the jungle. They had no carts to transport the captives, and no flat introductions, so they had to flee between rocks and tree trunks.
All of Shhotolar marched with their plates and armor, all wearing only a layer of chain mail or leather armor, but carrying a shield and three armour-piercing spears.
They lit torches, crossed ravines, trampled through rocks and forests, followed the jumble trails left behind by goblins, and chased them into the depths of the Whispering Forest.
"There's a brownie among them?" Ophelia, with dichromatic eyes, hurried beside Griffith, checking the map from time to time to mark the reinforcements that followed.
"Yes, unlike the average brownie," said Griffith, "its identity may not be limited to being a traitor leading the way, but judging by its demeanor and words, it is likely that it was also the commander of the attack." β
"What's the point of a brownie?" asked Murat in the back.
His question was answered by no one. The Huttorals expressed their ignorance with silence.
Why?, Griffith muttered to himself. There is no crime without motive.
After less than half an hour of rapid marching, Griffith suddenly raised his hand, and the whole team immediately stopped.
The heavily armed Shitolar quietly dispersed to the sides and quickly entered the battle position. Everyone struggled to control their breath and hid in the line waiting for the signal.
A lithe Ophelia leaps into the treetops and scouts ahead. Originally, it was most appropriate for Galadia to be in charge of this kind of thing, but she, like Rana, could not participate in the war.
Griffith cautiously groped his way in the direction Ophelia had indicated.
Ahead of the dark road, goblins are gathering on a flat meadow. Behind them were the girls who had been captured.
"More than three hundred, including more than a hundred in armor, 3 shamans, 4 trolls, and a brownie," Ophelia said as she returned to Griffith, "instead of using these girls as hostages and meat shields, they set up a formation to fight us?"
"Goblins still in armor?"
"Four trolls, how can there be four?"
Someone in the team apparently understood the goblins' habits and blurted out in surprise.
"They didn't flee separately or with all their might. Midianmaia began to check everyone's gear, and now there was no time to exhaust the reason.
"Just go up and ask, and everyone will unfold according to plan. Griffith nodded to everyone and walked out of the woods alone. Others quickly followed the arrangement.
In a flat, black meadow, the goblins lined up in a way that was out of step with their chaotic temperament, spears in front, swords and shields behind, flanked by miscellaneous soldiers armed with slings, bows and arrows, and a variety of weapons. Several flags made of rags, bones and sticks, and even drummers with war drums were raised.
Among the dense dwarf creatures, there are four tall, muscular burly bodies that stand like reefs on the sea. That's the goblin troll that Griffith once encountered.
Hundreds of goblins lined up in a dense phalanx, almost filling the clearing between the trees.
Sonia and the other girls who were arrested lowered their heads and were tied under the big tree behind them without saying a word. Several goblins roam the neighborhood to prevent them from escaping.
"I'm Griffith Blanton, Squad Leader II," Griffith shouted, "Goblin Commander, say what you want. β
The goblins slowly parted a path in the middle, and a creature about as tall as them, but with brown skin and a much softer appearance, stepped out.
Brownie No. 2887. The same brownie who led the assault on Griffith under the walls.
The brownie walked towards the armored Griffith with his bare hands, and stood between the two sides, calmly looking at the apprentice knight in the shade of the trees. Six or seven goblins in armor stood by his side.
Griffith glanced around, then sheathed his sword and walked over to Brownie with his shield in hand.
"I'm Gothra," Brownie 2887 nodded to the human, "I used to be a handyman in the gardens of Holmonwards. β
Griffith looked curiously at the creature that was less than half his height: "Gothra, say what you ask, and hand the girls over to us safely." β
"Alright," Gothra said slowly, "I'm asking for 10 Arcane Crystals from the Homonwaltz Treasury, 200 pounds of Mithril, 20 ounces of Adamantite, 400 people for 15 days of refined dry food, and the Flying Leaf controlled by just 15 Brownies. I will guarantee the safety and decent treatment of the captives, and return them to you when I am on board. β
"Yes. Griffith nodded, looking around.
It's complete nonsense......
This brownie, Gothra, must have had other intentions. Or else would it take such a big risk to set up such a conspiracy, just to get some arcane crystals and a sailing ship that would not have escaped the pursuit of the Bayeran fleet?
"Do you agree?" Gothra said, looking at the tall human.
"Yes, a very fair price," Griffith said, "and I offer my terms." β
"Please. β
"Return the captives at once, and join me personally," Griffith curtsied down and looked at Gothra on an equal footing, "you will receive a notarized document from the God of Contracts, and Holmonworth will not hold you accountable for your crimes, and will grant you freedom and wizarding treatment." You'll have your own brownie servant, separate bedroom, study, research equipment, and perks, and become the first brownie wizard in Holmonworth or enjoy life as a wizard. β
Gothra tilted his head, "Does your promise work?" β
"For the sake of the seven noble girls, of course it works," Griffith nodded, "I said, you'll get a written promise." β
"What about my fellow citizens, then?"
"Compatriots?" Griffith, looking at the goblins behind Gothra in confusion, deciding not to dwell on Gothra's statement, "In general, they will be annihilated. However, if you wish, you can also let them go, and it will not be difficult for this whispering forest to accommodate them. β
"Goblins bleed you, and you still think Holmonwood will let them go?"
"The blood has been shed," Griffith said, standing up, looking over Gothra and the Goblin phalanx at the bound girls behind them, "but there's room for redemption now, isn't it?"
The goblin guards' faces were expressionless, and unlike their lewd counterparts, they didn't seem to care about anything, just staring at the humans a few steps away with a cold and calm gaze.
"You're not what I expected," Gothra nodded, "I thought you'd laugh at Brownie for not deserving of his name, and that you'd suggest annihilating my countrymen on the spot after tempting me." Arrogant humans don't negotiate with us, and it's surprising that you don't think that way, as you humans are used to. β
Griffith raised an eyebrow in some surprise.
"If you're not a skilful liar," Gothra said, "you may think of us as equal creatures in your heart." β
"So......" Griffith waited with some curiosity for Brownie's decision.
"I'm going to talk to my fellow citizens," Gothra took a few steps back to his goblin guard, "Wait, Cadet Knight, we'll get back to you shortly." β
Griffith's eyes narrowed slightly, as if they had turned into a silent rock.
The only cold wind blew between the two hostile creatures, and an eerie atmosphere brewed on the cold grass.
Suddenly, a series of bowstrings rang out from behind the goblins' ranks. The goblins who were guarding the girls' side were shot four on the spot. Ophelia leaped out with three Secolars in light leather armor.
"Boom!" the goblin brigade immediately stirred. Some of them wanted to turn around and run back, while others stood still not knowing what to do.
Griffith's eyes, half-kneeling, suddenly opened, and his blade-like sword eyebrows shone brightly. He moved from stillness, his half-kneeling legs kicked to the ground, and his right hand, pressed on the scabbard of his left waist, turned into a phantom.
The arc of sword light flashed, and the silent forest resounded with a tooth-itching tearing sound, and the air let out a wail.
The moment Gothra heard the sound of the strings, he rolled in the direction of the large array. The guards beside him flew up three or four heads at the same time, blood spurting out.
Before the goblin guards could react, Griffith had already rushed into their midst, tearing them apart together.
Ophelia and the others' cold sword light killed all the guards near the hostages in a blink of an eye. They had already made a detour back to the back of the goblin queue during the negotiation time, and suddenly attacked from the shadows.
"Attack!"
"Central Breakthrough!"
In the woods, Shutloral, cloaked in a draped body, formed a sharp formation and charged towards the goblin brigade.
They trampled the earth and tumbled like a torrent, but no one howled and ran over in silence.
"Huh!" the goblin shaman held up a cloth flag with bones, and the three-headed goblin trolls in front of the phalanx waved huge tree trunks, and more than three hundred goblins stepped forward, beat their chests, and howled and pounced on the humans.
In the dimness, more than a dozen flashes of cold light suddenly bloomed. A series of dull popping sounds rang out from the fat torso of the goblin troll leader. In an instant, the second round of cold light had swept in like stars falling to the ground, stabbing the strongest goblin into a hedgehog.
