Chapter 318: The Unfinished Avenger

The glittering scythe slashed horizontally, slamming into the icy rune greatsword.

The cyan scythe reflected many distorted souls, their faces pained, constantly emitting cries of death and sorrow, and countless arms stretched out from the scythe. While tying the rune greatsword, the cyan void arm also attacked the owner of the greatsword.

The rune greatsword was obviously not to be outdone, and the frost power carried on it was once again filled, seeping out a trace of cold mist from the gaps that were wrapped around the layers of the void arm. The cold fog grew heavier and heavier, and most of the virtual arms shattered like ice crystals. The twisted soul inside the scythe changed from a scream of pain to a terrible scream, and the shrill voice was terrifying.

After a brief stalemate, the cyan blade's scythe and rune greatsword separated, and then turned back to meet a rune greataxe that had slashed down from mid-air. After flicking the rune axe away, the scythe kept backing down, dodging one icicle after another.

The scythe's owner, 'Tobias', was clad in a large dark gray cloak, his face and limbs shrouded in a blue glow. He glanced at the few Death Knights around him, and then at the large group of Abominations who had entered the battlefield in the distance, and felt that he might have to follow in the footsteps of the gods today.

......

Once upon a time, there were gods in the plane of death, or rather, in Tobias's limited memory and consciousness, the powerful being who created him was an omnipotent god for him.

Not only did the god create Tobias, but he also gave him the title of 'Reaper of the Reapers', and commanded him to hunt the wandering souls and some of the more powerful undead creatures in this "good" plane.

He had been diligently searching for and harvesting souls for the gods, and later, a group of living people with heartbeats inexplicably broke into this plane of death.

In fact, in the past, there were occasionally some plane travelers, for some reason, who entered this plane of death that they should not have come to.

Tobias once encountered one.

However, when he first met the living man, the other party had already fallen to the ground dying, and the residual life breath on his body was very thin, and he was still being swallowed by the plane itself.

Tobias estimated that it would not be long before the creature would be drained by the death plane and transformed into a normal undead creature. But Tobias couldn't wait, so he hastened the process with the scythe in his hand.

However, the group of living who broke in were not the same as the previous plane travelers, and their strength was extremely powerful, even making Tobias, who was still emotionless at the time, faintly feel something called 'fear'.

Tobias was able to see the souls of all living beings and harvest them with the scythe in his hand, an ability given to him by the gods. He did see the souls of the living at the beginning, but the souls of the other party were so dazzling that when Tobias used his ability to directly examine the group of people, his own soul fire was almost extinguished.

The living rudely broke into the temple and came to the Soul Throne, where the god was. Immediately afterward, they seemed to have something to say to the gods.

Tobias didn't know what the conversation was about, and he wasn't qualified to do that yet. All he knew was that it wasn't long before the omnipotent god fought the living people.

The gods are undoubtedly more powerful than the intruders, and this is the negative energy plane, the swaddling product of the gods' birth, and the home of the undead. Here, the gods are almost invincible.

Still, the living still knocked the invincible god to the ground, and every time their magic hit the origin of the god, even the endless energy of death could hardly repair such a terrible injury.

Tobias, like all the slayer warriors, soul sacrifices, soulless bones, and many other temple guards, went madly at the group of living people. But the other party simply waved his finger a few times, or drew a few magic runes in the air very casually, and there would be a surging magic energy pouring out, killing them guards in large swaths of slag.

What happened after that was not quite clear to Tobias, and when he awoke again from the darkness, the Fourth Priest of the Temple was standing in front of him. The priest told him that the great god had been killed by the intruding group of living beings, and that that had been a long time ago. Now, the other party occupies a large area of the temple and its surroundings, and seems to have the intention of staying in this death plane.

At that moment, an emotion called 'revenge' grew madly in the blue soul fire of Tobias.

The gods were gone, but the resurrected Tobias continued his work, and with no place to go for the harvested souls in the scythe, he examined them one by one through his abilities.

Vengeance is supposed to be sweet, and Tobias feels it clearly in the soul of some harvested ghoul. When the ghoul was harvested, his soul was distorted and nearly dead, and the only trace of consciousness left was the pleasure of revenge before death.

Unfortunately, I may not have been able to taste it myself, Tobias thought.

His cloaked figure floated backwards, dodging a powerful rune spear. The spear pierced through several corpse demon derivatives along the way, shattering a dozen more decaying skeletons, and crashed headlong into the magical barrier behind it.

The frost power carried by the rune throwing spear was filtered out by the magic barrier, but the metal throwing spear with only physical power was still very ferociously pierced into the dark wall of the castle, nailed to it motionless.

Tobias had no time to care, and the reaper slammed the scythe in his hand to the ground, and all the distorted void souls in the scythe were released, and they attacked the surrounding death knights.

If it had been before, Tobias, a soul twisted to this extent, would never have harvested it, because the gods didn't like such souls. Like the vengeful ghoul, the creature was no longer recognizable in human form, but almost transformed into the form of a ghoul, and was about to become an unconscious undead creature.

Such a soul is worthless, but in the final moments of its demise, it will erupt with unprecedented attachment and fierceness. The cyan void that broke away from the scythe slammed into the skulls of the Death Knights like a madman, as if it wanted to join the exuberant soul fire and become one with them.

The Frost Flower bloomed on the ground and in the air, and the Twisted Soul died in large numbers as it passed through the 'Flowers', and the wails that came out continued.

Only a few lucky ones passed through, but they were also easily killed by the Death Knights with the rune weapons in their hands.

After that, the three runic weapons, led by the dim scythe and the rune greatsword, fought together again. After several more encounters, the long scythe that had been hung with frost mist was cut off by the rune giant axe, and its owner barely dodged the attack of the wind-like double knives, and was directly pierced through the body by a throwing spear that broke through the air.

The weakened Tobias was pinned to the ground with a throwing gun, and he subconsciously raised his head and watched the rune greatsword get closer and closer to him in the air.

The beauty of its owner's soul was the last thought of Tobias, and then eternal darkness descended again.
