Chapter 110: Follow-up Results (Part II)
Without the playful and vulgar ditties of the bards, or the seductive, scantily clad waitresses, the taverns of the hot spring village are filled with just a group of villagers and farmers who don't want to go home too early to sleep with the yellow-faced woman, a tavern owner who is somewhat knowledgeable, and a storyteller who is a blacksmith.
"Why did the Nord find out about the hot springs in the first place?" one of the villagers asked, "why not Sir Yarman? β
"I don't want to admit it, but the Nord is much better than the Jazz. "He kills monsters as naturally as eating and drinking, and few of those demon bats can make him use a second sword." It was an elite adventurer, and I could tell that he had been in and out of the Misty Forest countless times before, yes, the strange forest that ate thousands of people every year. The adventurers who can come out of it repeatedly alive are certainly not ordinary. β
"That Nord seems to be really powerful!" said one of the villagers, "I heard Little Dick say that the Nord killed at least thirty winged monsters. Really?" he asked Duruk.
Duruk shook his head, "Thirty, no, that's more than that! That Nord adventurer killed more demon bats alone than the rest of the team combined." Truth be told, if it weren't for this Nord, at least half of the entire team would have been seriously injured, and many would have lost their lives. β
"If the Jazz had been younger, they wouldn't have been much worse than the Nord. Some villagers said unconvinced.
It can be seen that Yarman is very popular in the village.
"Maybe 20 years ago. Another elderly villager sighed, "I still remember Sir's heroic performance in the 'Turnip Pulling Competition' back then. There were three nearby villages, and more than a hundred sturdy young men, but none of them could match Sir, no! I had never seen anyone pull out the turnip so quickly, and the bards should have written a poem for it to be sung by posterity! But now......" he shook his head, "Sir is a little old, older than me, and it is not suitable for him to fight and kill in this way, and little Yarman should be in charge." β
But little Yarman became an adventurer, and after falling out with Jazz that year, he left. Duruk said. He looked at the tavernkeeper sitting across from him, "Little Yarman is what I call a 'smart man', and such a person will never be trapped in an old castle, a small territory, or a woman......"
"Clever what. At first, the villager in the wide-brimmed felt hat sneered, "If I were allowed to inherit such a large castle and this village as a territory, I would not be stupid to be that adventurer." I would hold a lively banquet and evening party every day, invite all the elegant noble ladies around me, let them gather around me, and then ......" He smiled hey, looking very obscene.
"Then you will soon run out of money, and you will go bankrupt, and you will become a ruined nobleman, sitting in an empty castle, and reminiscing about the good old days, which is no better than what you are in now. Another villager sneered.
"No money? Quite simply, I'll increase my taxes and let you guys take out the last copper coin in your pocket. The Fantasy Lord said proudly, "I am the lord, and in my territory, of course everything is up to me!"
"Good thing you're not a lord. "I think you just owe a beating!"
"You still want to be a lord? Hmph, being a farmer is the worst kind. A villager said disdainfully, "The yield of corn in your field is always much lower than that of other people's, and soybeans, potatoes, and even sometimes rye can make you sow and wither." The speaker pointed his finger at the Fantasy Lord, "Rye can grow and wither, you can really do it!"
"There's something wrong with my land, it's cursed! really, since my grandfather's grandfather's grandfather's...... I heard my grandfather say that a long time ago, there was a mage living in this neighborhood, and then he had some accidents, and my land had something to do with that accident. The villager in the wide-brimmed felt hat argued in a loud voice, "So, it has nothing to do with me! His last words were so quiet that only he could hear them.
The other villagers, apparently not believing the man's "quibble", retorted loudly, causing the whole tavern to be noisy again.
The tavernkeeper did not pay attention to the small talk, but looked at Duruk, "Dennis has finally removed the word 'apprentice'? This young man has been in the village for three or four years, and Sir is finally willing to make him a knight." I've heard that it usually takes only a few months for others to go from a trainee knight to a full-fledged knight, and the longest is no more than half a year. But Jazz dragged him for four whole years. β
"No way, the Jazz are very strict with Dennis. Duruk replied, "You know, since the departure of Jarman Jr., Dennis has been half of Jazz's son. The young man always followed Sir Jir's example and learned his words and deeds, so much so that by now, the whole person is as old-fashioned as Sir Yarman. β
Duruk shook his head and smiled, "After he becomes an official knight, he should leave here." The old knight didn't say it, but he was definitely reluctant in his heart. The blacksmith took another sip of the whole malt and smacked his lips with a very aftertaste, "To be honest, all-malt beer is indeed better than rye beer." β
"Aren't you talking nonsense, the price of ale is much higher than rye beer. The tavernkeeper leaned back and found a comfortable position, "Are you participating in the canonization ceremony?"
Duruk nodded, "Although I didn't attend the banquet in the evening, I did attend the canonization ceremony at noon. β
"What is the canonization ceremony?" one of the villagers asked curiously, "Is it grand? The most solemn ceremony I have ever seen is the success......ion of the Count of Garano more than ten years ago."
"You meanβyou've seen it?" another villager questioned, "The hall of the Succession Ceremony allows you, an ordinary farmer, to enter?"
"I'm cheering outside!" said the villager, puffing out his chest, "and there were more than a dozen circuses and jugglers from all over the country, breathing fire, playing with throwing knives, walking upside down, and walking on stilts...... Acrobats and clowns of all kinds fill the streets. Not only that, but there were at least three bards in each tavern, and these singers even fought for turf. The lyre and recorder were not only musical instruments, but also weapons, and it was a very lively scene. After all, everyone knows that the Benson family has money, and even the blood is gold, so they all want to come over and ask for some reward. β
"Are there elephants in that ceremony of yours?" the villager asked Duruk, "and twelve elephants stood in a row during the succession ceremony of the Count of Garano, and presumably the king's coronation was nothing more than that." β
"There was no elephant, but there was a white goose. Duruk replied with a smile.
"Paul Knight?" asked the tavernkeeper.
"Knight Paul!"
"It predates Dennis's canonization. The tavernkeeper laughed too.
"Hey, Duruk, you haven't said what the canonization ceremony looks like. The villagers who asked the question seemed to enjoy the lively scene.
"What else could it be, it's very simple. Duruk recalled, and began to narrate, "All the militiamen, as well as the adventurers, the cooks, butlers, and other miscellaneous workers in the castle, stood in two rows in the castle hall as witnesses. Sir Yarman stood in the middle of the two rows with the Knight's Code in his hand, and Dennis knelt down on one knee in front of him, and then Sir read the Knight's Declaration on the title page of the Codex, and every sentence he read, Dennis followed along. He stopped talking again.
"And then?"
"Then Sir asked, 'Dennis Elijah, wilt thou swear before the Code and the world that thou wilt defend the weak all your life, protect women and children, obey the prefects, lords, and kings, and fight valiantly and bravely, no matter how difficult, humble, or dangerous the future?' β
"Then I thought Dennis would reply, 'I do, my lord!', but suddenly he shouted 'Glory is my life.'" Everyone froze for a moment, including Sir Yarman, but he calmly tapped the tip of his sword on Dennis's shoulders, and the ceremony was complete, followed by chatter, rewards, and finally a feast. β
"Why don't you join the feast?" asked the tavernkeeper curiously.
"I wanted to attend, but the Nord man said that now that the matter was settled, he was going to leave. He said that he also took on other tasks, and he had to hurry up and not miss the trip. He also said that if there is any trouble here, you can go to him at any time, and it is best to hang the corresponding task on the adventurer's guild by the way. β
"I thought adventurers would prefer to take jobs privately, so the guild wouldn't be able to draw it. The tavern owner was a little confused.
"Who knows, maybe it's prestige. "Then Sir Yarman asked me to send the Nord out of the village on his behalf, probably because he thought that I was as strong as the Nord, and thought that we would have some common language, but in fact we didn't say anything along the way." Because in addition to me, there was also the charming-looking woman in the ranks of adventurers. The woman's eyes were full of affection when she looked at the Nord, and to tell the truth, they had an adulterous relationship at first sight, but the Nord still patted his ass and rode away. β
Duruk drank the last bit of all-malt beer, "After the Nords left, the woman found a stone at the entrance of the village, and sat on it with her knees crossed, not knowing what she was thinking. As for me, I thought to myself that the feast should have begun, so I should stop looking for a place and come to your place for a beer and talk to you idle guys. β
