Chapter 2: The City Sheltered by the Light, Section 2

The Sanctuary of Glory sits not far south of the statue of the goddess Cana. As the oldest and legendary building in the Queen City, its existence has attracted the admiration of countless people. In front of the main entrance of the temple hall is a large square with statues of great magicians and warriors who have made many great achievements from here. They bear witness to the history of the place and tell a majestic epic story.

On this day, the square was crowded with people, not only the long-term residents of the queen city, but also outsiders who came to visit. Hundreds of guards dressed in iron armor and armed with spears and shields lined up early in the center of the square, centering on the stone sculpture of the ancient magician in the center of the square, drawing a huge rectangular phalanx.

"Hurry up, we have to go a little further ahead!"

A little brown-haired boy pulled a red-haired boy and struggled to move through the crowd toward the center of the square.

"Sorry, sorry......"

The brown-haired boy shouted as he tried to cut through the crowd, and the people who were squeezed by them offered to give in when they realized that it was two young children.

The two children managed to squeeze to the front of the crowd, and a guard signaled to them that they could not go in further. The brown-haired boy clenched his fists and gave a non-standard military salute in the posture of an adult guard, then grinned with excitement on his face. The red-haired boy beside him looked a little shy, always shyly pinching the corners of his clothes, glancing at the armor of the guard in front of him.

The silver armor was decorated with a strong pattern, and a black cloak fell from the right shoulder to cover half of the body. The shield is trimmed with copper, and in the center is a goddess head backed by a pair of wings.

"That's cool! This is so handsome! Claude! See, they're the real Queen's City guards!"

The brown-haired boy named "Lucian" was the child of a family on White Horse Street. He tugged at Claude's arm excitedly, undisguised adoration in his heart.

Claude was obviously excited too, and his mouth repeatedly responded with "uh-huh".

"Look, honor guard!"

Some of the eye-catching saw from afar a team of elves, dressed in splendid clothes and holding musical instruments, approaching. The elf who led the team at the front held two white flags in his hands, and the goddess head in the center was lifelike under the golden classical pattern. Between their actions, delicate instruments flow beautiful melodies, bringing warm currents to everyone. The team seemed to be shrouded in an extremely gentle shimmer, which is the charm of the elves.

The crowd erupted in cheers for their arrival, a melody that has been with the city for thousands of years and has never gone out of style with the passage of time.

"Look, Claude, it's the elves, the elves of the conservatory!" Lucian shouted, as if he was afraid that his friends would miss something.

"Wow...... These are elves ......," Claude muttered quietly.

Claude was no stranger to elves, and for as long as he could remember, he had always heard Alan talk about them. Alan tells him that elves are the most beautiful creatures in the world, Eren tells him that Evelyn is a fairy magician, and that elven magicians are very powerful, and Alan tells him that elves can do anything, they have a lot of knowledge, they can take away pain, and they can do many, many things that ordinary people can't do.

Yes, because he almost never leaves White Horse Street, Claude listens to Alan almost everything about elves. His entire concept of elves was only Evelyn. However, Claude thinks Evelyn is mysterious, even somewhat unreasonable. She often goes far away and doesn't know where to go. He is usually quiet and does not allow him to come into contact with anyone but Ellen. If she were, it would have been almost unthinkable to play with Lucian.

"Hey, Claude, isn't Sister Evelyn an elf too, tell me, is she just like them?" Lucian looked expectant.

"Ah...... Not quite the same, right? It should be...... I can't tell the difference between ......," Claude responded.

"Well, I've never looked closely at Sister Evelyn, she doesn't seem to like to talk to people...... My mom told me that elves are like this, and I don't know if it's true or not, what do you say?" Lucian scratched his little head, trying to recall all his impressions of Evelyn.

"I don't know......" Claude also began to recall the moments he had with Evelyn, as if he hadn't seen Evelyn talk to anyone else except Uncle Alan and Uncle Louis.

The Elven Band walked a short distance in front of Claude until they lined up near the statue of the Magician, and continued to play music. They don't look like Evelyn, their hair is mostly blonde or some other color with a golden glow, and even their dark hair seems to have a unique glow. Unlike Evelyn, they both wore plain white outfits and looked ...... At least warmer and easier to get along with than Evelyn.

"Wow......"

The crowd erupted in exclamations. The two children immediately stood on tiptoe to look at the crowd's gaze, stretching their necks as hard as they could, hoping for a better view. However, they were still much shorter than the adults around them, and they didn't really see it until the group got closer.

Advanced cadets of the Temple of Glory. They wore similar blue-and-white garments, with the Inheritor of the Mage wearing a hat, the Warrior Successor wearing a silver shoulder armor, the Successor of the Sorcerer wearing a gold-rimmed cloak, and the Inheritor of the Archer carrying a bow and arrow. These are the four most traditional categories in this college. They are also the most high-profile people in the Queen's City - after all, entering the Temple of Glory is equivalent to attaining the most prestigious status in the Queen's City.

"It's so handsome! I can't wait!" Lucian began to indulge in endless self-absorption.

Claude pouted and did not answer. Lucian was talking about nothing more than being a member of the Temple of Glory, and as a descendant of the Digyans, he had an innate talent for fighting. In Claude's mind, Lucian's talent was outstanding, and it was almost a sure thing that he would be chosen by the teachers of the Temple of Glory.

However, Claude looks at himself, and the situation is not optimistic. He was born thinner than the Di people of the same age, and even a little weak. Of course, Evelyn often teaches him martial arts, but he has no idea what level of power he is at. Most importantly, when Claude first mentioned the Temple of Glory to Evelyn, Evelyn was furious and even forbade him to do these "non-trivial thoughts" again.

In the city of queens, the Temple of Glory is a topic that will never go out of style, even if Claude's life trajectory is almost a small circle with a radius of no more than ten miles, but there are always ten thousand ways for these things to reach his ears in the city.

Every ten years, the Temple of Glory openly recruits apprentices from the entire Primordial Realm, and this year happens to be the decennial enrollment ceremony. Before the admissions ceremony, which is also taking place at this time, is the inauguration ceremony of the new Sword Guardian.

The Guardian of the Blade is almost the most dazzling being below the Elder Mage, who was directly appointed by the Elder Mage to receive the Blade of Light, the Sacred Sword of Maridia, and is tasked with guarding the Light of Cana.

This position has existed since the founding of Queen's City, and the successive guardians of the sword have been excellent warriors in a thousand. They are highly skilled and devout in the light of Cana, and they are in the spotlight.

"Hey, Lucian, you say...... Should I try it......" Claude's voice was a little small, especially in the midst of the crowd and the tsunami.

"Huh, what?" Lucian's thoughts hadn't yet turned back from the Templar apprentice.

"Glory Temple......" Claude said.

"Why not? everyone here is eager to get in, and even the whole world is hungry!" Lucian frowned, and in his opinion, Claude's words were incomprehensible.

"But...... I ...... "Claude seems to have something unspeakable, and he is hesitant.

Lucian patted Claude on the shoulder, cleared his throat and said, "Ahem, although you don't look as strong as I am, of course you probably don't...... Belch...... It's true that you're not as strong as I am, but nothing is impossible as long as you work hard!"

Claude scratched his head and said, "But...... What reason do I have to ......"

"Reason?" Lucian interrupted, "What are you kidding? As a person who grew up in the Queen's City, a creature under the protection of the goddess Cana, do you need a reason to participate in the examination of the Temple of Glory?

"Okay......" Claude pouted again.

In fact, Claude wanted to ask about the reason for convincing Evelyn, but as soon as the topic of the "Temple of Glory" was mentioned, the child named Lucian would be hot-headed and enthusiastic. Of course, not to mention in this situation......

Claude didn't ask any further.

"Oh...... Look, it's them!"

"Yes! It's them!"

The noisy crowd gradually quieted down, and the ceremony was about to begin.
