【Chapter 5】Jedi Encounters Section 9
Whew......
After losing count of which howl, the wolves entrenched on the left and right sides of the high ground launched a sudden attack. Nearly 100 horses were seen pouring in like a flood, and even in the dark of night, you could clearly see the snowflakes that were flying due to the trampling of hooves and claws!
O'Grey had extremely keen sense, grabbing a leaping beast with both hands, and with a roar of rage, the attacker had been torn in half. The other one was slapped to the ground by this powerful beast spirit with a backhand.
Compared to O'Gree's bravery, Sivir's movements are much more elegant. The bronze sword rolled with his figure, and the sound of the blade cutting through the flesh and bones never stopped.
The two formed a formidable defensive line, and the occasional break through the net was not a problem for Claude and Lucian.
However, the wolves were so numerous that they were so large that they even extinguished the bonfires in the fierce battle. The loss of vision and the depletion of physical energy inevitably led to injuries in the crowd.
"Ahh
"Bastard, brute!"
Cursing and screaming in pain mingled with the howls of the beasts, and Claude couldn't even see what was going on around him. These beasts were much larger than Sivir, and the constant attacks of monsters like the white heads made Claude and the others miserable.
Claude was afraid of the backlash of the Starlight Sword, and used a sharp sword as a club. Fortunately, this sharp weapon is not heavy, and it can barely be handled. Lucian, on the other hand, was exhausted. The weapons forged by the dwarves were meant to be good at killing enemies, but the heavy blade of the sword made the ten-year-old boy suffer, and after splitting the head of a vicious wolf again, the Dikan child staggered to the ground. If it weren't for Orgray's timely recovery to block the next blow for him, I'm afraid Lucian would have been the first to die in the wolf's mouth.
"Sivir!" roared Orgray, "this is not the way to go!"
Sivir struggled to fend off the onslaught, unable to respond. Her wound cracked again with the violent movements, and the smell of blood and rancid stench melted together, but the wolves in her field of vision increased rather than decrease.
When the woman was cut open by the claws again, her blood splattered on the bronze sword in her hand. Sivir couldn't care much more, the breath in his chest condensed on the sword-wielding, and the light shone again, illuminating the surroundings.
The wolves illuminated by the light screamed and retreated sharply beyond the aperture. It was only at this time that Xavier and the others discovered that the opponent who had been engaged for half a night had already decayed, and the skeleton under the broken flesh and skin was fully revealed. The blood had already coagulated, and the rancid stench was from the monsters themselves!
"It's ...... Ice Wolves?" Claude couldn't believe his eyes, "These things, still ...... Alive?"
Holding aloft the glittering bronze sword, Sivir looked around at the "corpse" under his feet, what kind of ice snow wolf is this, it is clear that it has been rotting for a long time, and the skin is not covered with bones!
Sivir hurriedly stretched his sword forward, and the group of monsters retreated, none of them exposed to the light. This made her realize that these monsters, while terrifying, seemed to be terribly afraid of the light. As long as this brilliance is maintained, this crisis will be self-defeating.
The rest of the beasts were still staring at each other, and their whirring breath had not stopped. The aperture seemed to be an insurmountable chasm, and no matter how much they coveted the prey in the circle, they could do nothing.
There was a long stalemate until the wolf let out another long howl, and the monsters finally retreated. Then, the first glimmer of light on the horizon was belated.
As the sun rose, Sivir could no longer hold it on, and fell limply. Claude didn't know what kind of power she was using, but it was clear that it was going to drain her body to a great extent.
O'Grey carried the unconscious Sivir to where she had been resting, and the trio lit a bonfire for her. After that, the dense "corpses" scattered in the open space in front of them made several people nauseate again.
"What the hell is this?"
Orgray shook his head as he looked at the monsters. His body was covered with paw prints, and some of the more serious wounds were even blurred with blood.
"Monsters, monsters......" Claude muttered to the answer. If the existence of the Fire Demon was still acceptable, this "corpse wolf" really refreshed his senses.
"I've heard stories from my people about the mysterious creatures of the Eastern Continent, but I've never heard of them. Ogrey leaned down, the monster's supposedly white fur was stained, and through the flesh he could see the rotting entrails of the skeleton. "This monster must have been cursed by witchcraft. It's wicked. I've never seen such an evil 'creature'......"
The claw-scratched wound was slightly itchy, and O'Gray raised his arm to look at it and put it down, not paying attention.
The two children crouched beside Sivir, in fact, this woman had saved everyone here for the second time.
"To be honest, she's unbelievably powerful. Lucian sighed.
Claude nodded in agreement, "yes." Perhaps such a figure is the one in the Temple of Glory. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would have had a lot of fantasies about becoming an heir. But now it seems ......," Claude shook his head with a wry smile.
"Hey, don't be so discouraged. When you really get out, you must have passed the trial!" O'Gray sat beside them, his gaze resting on Sivir's face.
Ogray's tone was contrary to the ferocity of the beast spirit, but it added a bit of gentleness. The two children naturally couldn't understand, but of course the woman still had her eyes closed and was completely silent.
"When you get out, what will it be......
The sunlight didn't show for long, and soon after, a blizzard quickly buried the corpses of the group of monsters. In the long period until dusk, except for Sivir, who was still unconscious, the three of them had fallen asleep and woken up many times.
The Northland is surprisingly silent, but the silence is not at all unreassuring. They quenched their thirst with snow, only to melt in their mouths, and their unbearable hunger became more and more ferocious.
Unable to determine where they were, the trio decided to rest until Sivir woke up before setting off. During this period, for the sake of safety, the three took turns to keep watch. The day passed unusually long, until I couldn't remember the first few times, and Lucian patted Claude on the shoulder, and the day seemed to be passing again.
"How long did I sleep this time?" Claude asked, yawning, rumbling with hunger.
Lucian was also tired, and replied, "It's not long, I guess half an hour?"
Claude nodded. In order to ensure as much rest as possible and not to be taken away by the cold, the three-person rotation process shortened everyone's sleep time as much as possible.
As Claude scratched his head and tried to regain his senses, Lucian found the place where the former had just been watery and leaned against the stone wall to lie down.
"Hey...... Claude, ......where "Lucian's upper body has not yet fully relaxed, and several "figures" seem to appear on Apo, not far away. Lucian confirmed again: "There, on the slope in front, are there a few standing...... People?"
"Huh?" Claude looked in that direction, and although the flying snow obscured his vision, as Lucian had said, there were indeed a few shadows standing there. Only those "men" looked strong, even as tall as O'Gray.
Claude beckoned to the other side, but instead of answering, there were more shadows.
"Successor Trial?" the wind was loud, and Claude asked loudly as little as he could.
The group of "people" still did not answer. As the dark figures deepened, there were more and more of them, and Claude's heart trembled, who were the participants in the trial?
"Hey, get up! get up!" Claude clutched the Starlight Sword and hurriedly beckoned behind him.
Lucian jumped to his feet, but Ogray didn't react at all. The boy quickly leaned down, shook O'Gray's shoulders violently, and kept shouting, "Get up, get up!"
Orgray was uncharacteristically, he had never been so sleepy during his shift, and even Claude couldn't help but run to his side, and the beast spirit barely opened his heavy eyelids.
"Orgrey, there's another group over there, I don't know what!" Lucian shouted, pointing at the figures.
O'Gray covered his head with his right hand, and gasped for air with a grunt. He barely made out the vision ahead, but the words that came out of his mouth were slurred.
Wave after wave of unevenness, O'Gray struggled to his feet, his movements clearly very reluctant. Claude noticed that the wounds of the beast's sturdy band had not healed until now.
"How long has it been, given the physiology of the beast spirits, this is not possible!" Claude said nervously.
"What do you mean?"
"Look at his wounds, there is no sign of healing at all!"
From time to time, Claude paid attention to the group of "people" on the high slope, who seemed to be waiting for something.
It's not a pleasant feeling to be watched, especially when the two best fighters around you are all out of shape. Claude clenched the hilt of his sword tightly, and this time, he really had to rely on himself.
"Lucian, hold your sword!" Claude growled.
"But O'Gree......" Lucian was still holding on to the beast spirit that seemed to be delirious, and O'Gree's huge body couldn't even stand on its own, and a strange sound was coming out of his mouth.
Claude yelled again, "Hold your damn sword!"
The kid was rarely so serious, and Lucian certainly understood how bad the situation was. He helped Ogrey to his feet, and then stood beside Claude with his weapon in hand.
"Hey, bro. Lucian tilted his head slightly, but his gaze was looking farther away.
"Huh?" Claude replied.
Lucian smiled and shook his head, "When we kill them, our title of 'inheritor' will be worthy of the name!"
Hearing this, Claude was stunned for a moment, then lowered his head with a smile and nodded hard.
"Yes, a veritable heir to the Temple of Glory!"
