Chapter 119: Risk and Reward (II)
Unfortunately, it swooped straight into the hysterical, lightning-filled tentacles.
The combined force of the light and the dark tentacles forms a criss-crossing web of white-blue and tender tendrils that lift the victim's body into the air. In a candid moment, the horrific and comical spectacle of two yin-yang octopuses dragging an ogre-sized frog back and forth between them, helplessly suspended in mid-air.
Petra's blue eyes were full of doubt and amazement.
Gwen, however, doesn't have time to enjoy the unexpected frog in the middle;
To the astonishment of her excited auditorium, she began to run towards the frog in the middle, as if to fight it hand-to-hand.
"What the fuck are you doing!" Petra yelled. "Don't be stupid! it bites your guts with a single brush!"
Gwen approaches the floating horror toad.
Suddenly burst into ecstasy, and the creature lunged upon her, draining the last life of its life.
"Dimensional Gate!" Gwen vanished, appearing behind the thing. Her tentacles grabbed the terrible frog and held it in her dangling arms.
"Thunderbolt!"
Once again, the bounty of the lightning element shows its true wrath. This is an element given by the gods to hunt monsters, and a dozen bolts of lightning destroy the internal organs of the frogmon and cook it from the inside out. Even on the verge of death, Gwen could feel the creature's chaotic flesh trying to repel her magic, but now it couldn't afford its rejection.
When it expired, Gwen felt its "essence" permeate the unicorn amulet.
Then, before her acquaintances could eat it completely, she pounced on Caliban's prey.
"What the fuck?!you idiot!" Petra's voice was now more frustrated than angry. With no more enemies to fight, she lowered the crystal wall and watched her magic cube scatter into mineral dust. She must protect the injured mage, but she also has to make sure that her idiot cousin is not killed.
To Petra's left, Ariel lost in a race against a bulky blue frog. The problem with it is that, despite its ridiculous agility, it doesn't deal significant damage to this magic-resistant, armor-armored creature. At the same time, the Battle Toad, which slammed wildly without any strategic combat, also managed to hit Ariel, sending the mongoose out of the air like a hit ball each time.
Inevitably, the monster hit a home run, and Ariel slid through the mire and jumped into the pile of bones that adorned the bushes under the trees.
The frog then jumped up to intercept Gwen.
Petra roared. She promised her children to take care of Gwen.
"Dimension Gate!" she drained her life-saving crystal and appeared behind the creature.
Her eyes shone with the dark gold of psychic magic.
"Catch the monster!"
The frog eggs immediately restrained her thoughts. Petra grunted vigorously, forcing the frog to his knees.
She shouted to Gwen. "You're fucking resistant! You've got 30 seconds!"
"Dimensional Gate!"
Even if Caliban and Frog** swap wounds, Caliban's pseudophysiology means it doesn't care about any fatal injuries. At the same time, due to excessive blood loss, the internal organs were hollowed out, and the combat toad became weaker and weaker until it was paralyzed by a severe wound.
Gwen flashed a flash of lightning from the thin air and shot a bolt of lightning into the frog beast's open belly, watching its eyes burst out of its sockets.
Another warm current permeated the Qilin amulet.
Then she turned to the last creature.
Petra gritted her teeth. "It's ridiculous to resist!"
"Caliban!
Both of her pets approached the captured creature, a fuzzy hairless blade and spinning lightning bolts. With the last dimensional door, she zipped it up and channeled the remaining mana into Ariel's elemental-laden fur, causing its face to explode outward, releasing a stream of cats.
The unicorn amulet swallowed the essence of the last frog.
"What the fuck is that?" Petra snarled at her. "Why are you doing this yourself? Who the hell trained you?"
"You have to trust me. Gwen raised her hands and made a kneeling gesture. "There's a very 'good' reason for that. β
Petra stared at her cousin with her steely gaze, a moment of challenge in the air, but her expression visibly softened as she watched the carnage around them.
"How are you feeling?" There are too many spells," Petra asked in exasperation, dangerous move, Gwen. β
"Ha, I-" Gwen stumbled where she stood, forcing Petra to hold her shoulder.
"I'm not there yet. "Gwen's face has regained some color, and I'm just a little dizzy. β
A young man walks into the clearing.
"Who's that, an ally?" Petra pointed to the scrawny mage.
Mr. Fei looked at the clearing, his face as pale as printing paper.
He was glad that Gwen didn't choose to duel with the Xiao Sect disciples. If she had, it would have been a massacre. It's not every day that you see someone soloβalmost soloβthree layers of 4 magical creatures, even with a good ambush.
"That's the Lin family's Feilin, he's the mage's teammate over there. Gwen pointed to the survivors.
Yuan, the one who had been trying to recover his mana, jogged towards them.
The girls are still in shock, and the "wounded" one is still moaning.
The female mage holding her companion looked up at Gwen in despair.
"Please, please help Lily, her
"I have healing potions. Gwen pulled out two syringes.
"No, she needs more than that. Petra sighed, she was infected by a magical bacteriophage. β
A group of people took Gwen's arm and approached the injured girl.
"You should be found guilty," Petra said coldly after seeing a red rash spread across the girl.
"Please, if you can do something," Lily's companion pleaded. She is a mediocre-looking girl with a forgettable face.
The injured girl was panting and coughing blood. The rash has spread again. Now it's going down Lily's thigh. Gwen couldn't help but notice that the lines were very similar to the red frog's leathery complexion.
"Petra?" Gwen wondered why her cousin was staring at the girl so intently.
Petra turned into a Rubik's Cube.
"Recover!"
Positive energy permeates the suffering lilies. After a while, her breathing returned to normal, and her diseased skin stopped advancing.
"You!" the companion who was hit by the cannonball angrily turned to Petra. "You said you didn't have any treatment!"
Petra glared at her coldly.
Gwen read the situation and intervened. Unfortunately, she was so weak that she was forced to get to one knee by her uninvited sudden movements.
"You bitch!" the mage continued. "Lily can
'Slap!'
Petra backhanded the magician hard in the face, and she spun around.
"Petra!" Gwen's open lips could swallow a whole egg.
"Ungrateful scum," Petra spat at. "Get out of here, if you're still here in ten minutes. I'll kill you. β
β...β
Gwen didn't know what to say.
Is Petra wrong?
Hardly.
She saved their lives. She risked her life to protect them from those monsters. She kept doing it when she could have escaped at any moment. What gives these stupid kids the right to question her motives? They owe Petra her life.
The mage got up from the ground and began to cry.
Lily, now recovered, stood in front of Petra and bowed deeply and apologized.
"Fuck out of here," Petra declared.
But the girls didn't dare to move. What if more frogs were waiting in the water in the distance?
Next to them, Fei and Yuan talked quietly, watching the scene unfold.
A minute later, Caliban returned, eating the corpses.
Gwen felt her vitality regain a bit, and turned to the stalking spider in anticipation.
"Okay?" she swallowed, fingers crossed.
"Shhhhhh
Caliban spat out a mass of entrails.
Yuan turned around and fled the scene. Phoebe was much better, and in a day and a half, he had become accustomed to Caleban performances.
Petra held back her anger and glared at Gwen.
Lily, fainted. The rude woman with cheeks swollen like marshmallows turned around and spat out of her nose.
Gwen reached into the steaming pile and picked out an object.
"Dada!"
She handed the bloody thing to Petra, her iris constricted.
A creature core!
Met taupe eyes.
An understanding was reached between two capable women.
"I see. Petra nodded. "I apologize. Good job. β
"Thank you," Gwen affirmed Petra's acknowledgment.
Gwen felt her mana start to burn and called Ariel and Kaliban to her side. Caliban's body had lost two limbs, and the third limb hung limply, though people she knew didn't seem to care at all. Ariel, on the other hand, was beaten covered in blood and in excruciating pain.
"Oops! Oops!" Gwen injected the mink with a healing potion and canceled both of them.
The core disappears into Gwen's ring. When they come out of the dungeon, she will trade it for the Cocos Islands.
The survivors gather, and Gwen dissuades Petra, who promises to kill the ungrateful squire she saved. She then pulls out blankets, decanters, and a variety of canned food so they all share the joy of surviving an embarrassing encounter.
"Thank you. The young mages bowed to Gwen, who gave them a strong sense of sisterhood, carefully accepting the food, water, and detergent she offered. Gwen handed the mana injector to Petra, and the two girls stabbed short fire needles into their thighs.
When their reserve money runs out, Petra takes the opportunity to extract the savior's tax from the frightened victims.
"Shields. β
"Fireball. β
"Mage armor. β
"Hurry up. β
"Flame skin. β
β...β
The magicians do one every few minutes while they are resting.
Petra extracted a series of lightning spells from Gwen because Gwen was now too weak to sustain more Void magic.
"Thank goodness you have the Dimension Gate. Petra waited until Gwen recovered, and then made two more copies.
"Have you seen anyone else?Gwen had to inject another mana potion to burn her alchemy cooldown for the next 12 hours.
"No, there's a reason for that. We have to stay here. Petra leaned against Gwen's ear, and she could feel her gentle breath on her earlobe. "It's good for us to be in that tree. I've been keeping an eye on it, but now that you're here, we can do it. To avoid complications, we need to do this as soon as possible. β
"Oh?" Gwen felt Petra's lips brushing over her earlobe. It's itchy.
"If we want to keep our prize, we need privacy," Petra whispered into Gwen. "We need these hangers to get out of the way. β
Gwen may have experience fighting monsters and dueling mages, but she has never been in a situation where she has to tell her companions to "get out of the way" and "survive herself in the wolf-infested woods".
When Gwen neither affirmed nor rejected her suggestion, Petra's expression became stiff and unhappy. Gwen's immense skill inspires rapport between people, but that rapport seems even more distant.
"Are you recovered?" Petra walked out of their brief intimacy.
Gwen checked her condition with a quick meditation.
Her health is manageable. Kaliban replenishes a sizable portion of her energy, although a little positive energy can compensate for her fatigue well. Her mana pool was also filled with injectors, so she was ready to act, though far from being at her best.
"Yes, I can go. β
Not far from Gwen and Petra, Fei and Yuan sat together, watching the two girls regain their mana.
The Dual Elemental Wizard has a sickly beauty that makes people feel sick, while the Mineral Mage Petra has a cold beauty that fascinates the observer.
"There's fruit on it," Yuan whispered to his companion, then shushed. "Don't look up!"
Mr. Fei forced himself not to be affected.
"Do you think anyone has seen your logo?"
"We didn't see anyone on the way here," Fei said calmly. "It's just Gwen and me. β
"Damn," Yuan looked at the two girls, Lily and Wenshi. They were frightened by Petra and were useless in the rebellion. "Well, there's a bunch of 'something' on it, so unless we can get those girls away, we'll consider kissing goodbye 20 to 50 cubic centimeters. β
"Can't fight Gwen!" Mr. Fei shook his head. "If you see what I see, you can't even dream of it. β
Yuan glanced at the long-legged girl again. Gwen now stands up straight, her weight on her hind feet, one hand arched over her hips, and the swan's neck is looking up. Her dancer's figure is accentuated by her tights. Next to her, the Mineral Mage wore a skirt that just covered her dark shorts, giving her the impression of dangerously flaunting her toned white legs.
The evoker swallowed.
"Listen," Yuan grabbed his friend's arm tightly, for fear that the magician who would be fascinated would not be good for him, and I had a way to contact the soothsayer I knew......"
Gwen and Petra were some distance away from their unpopular companions and were ready to move on. Petra noted that the Caliban might be their best option to climb the tree. Gwen summoned Spider Dread again, commanding it to appear in spider form.
When Caleban emerges from the veil between the two worlds again, Gwen can't help but notice that its limbs have regenerated.
She weighed the correctness of her call, and admitted that the recent appearance of the Caliban had deprived her of her vitality more than ever, even though it was still within Almuji's buffer zone.
Gwen carefully considered the implications, keeping this factor on her chest. It seems that if she is willing to give her vitality, she can dispel and summon Caleban to return to this world with a fresh body.
After all, Caliban is a starving darkness of the invisible, a population of nothingness. It was her contract that gave Caliban a reasonable percentage and allowed her to slowly enter the material world.
Gwen straddled the first segment of Caliban's chest, while Petra was close to the tail, completely relieved by the eerie appearance of the bizarre arachnid.
"Don't you hate Caliban?" Gwen asked Petra curiously, and they slowly climbed up the trunk of the tree.
Petra tried to balance as much as she could on Caliban's body, shifting her weight as Caliban's limbs pierced into the wood.
"It's beautiful. To Gwen's surprise, Petra patted Caliban's tail and it swayed excitedly here and there. "I wish there was a familiar power plant like this. Who would have thought it would bring a blue Gila close to a solo?"
"What?" Gwen noticed that Stone, who 'understood the language', was unable to fully translate the last part of Petra's speech.
"Jira," Petra repeated.
"We have very limited beast farms on the border," Gwen added helpfully, though Petra didn't seem to mind explaining.
"The Gila are a race of creatures who roam between two planes, drifting from the stars into matter. No one knows where they came from, only that they are creatures of chaos. The weakest were the Reds, who were as cunning as goblins, but as strong as soldier-level magical beasts, while the Blues we fought were slightly stronger. They can become very huge, with the mother burrow of the nest reaching a height of six or seven meters, approaching a huge level of risk. It is also rumored that Emerald Gerais can use magic like a mage. β
Petra paused.
"The rash? It's a bacteriophage that turns the victim into a Jira. β
"Too ...... It's horrible!" Gwen began to understand why the "friend" was so desperate.
Petra didn't say anything. Instead, she pointed upward.
Gwen tilted her head and found their prize.
A man-sized pod hangs from the top branch.
It resembles a jackfruit, or durian, and gives off a smell that indicates that the fruit is ripe for picking. Its aroma is otherworldly, a hearty fragrance.
Gwen believed that piles of animal carcasses were nutrients for the roots of the tree. Could it be that the creatures of Jira have been feeding the tree, waiting for this day? or something else is looking after the tree?
"Do you think this tree has a guardian?" Gwen asked Petra, her eyes equally focused on the fruit.
"Of course," Petra said to her. "So we left the bait underneath. β
"Baitβ"
Gwen's eyes widened. No wonder Petra is so submissive to leave others alone.
"Petra, no!"
