Chapter 15: A Journey to the North (Part I)

After two more days of traveling north with the convoy, the boy and the bounty hunter finally arrived at Snowfall in the middle of the white river tundra.

Compared to the bustling and bright city of Langlens, this Northland city is small and unpretentious. Jude walked through the low city walls and sparsely populated shopping streets, and there were no checkpoints at the city gates, recalling the shock and novelty of his first arrival in Lancence, and the boy was quite emotional.

However, how difficult it would be to build such a city on the bitter tundra, Jude can somewhat imagine.

Snowfall City is built on the mountain, the lower areas are relatively lively commercial areas, the middle wind areas are dominated by residences, and the lords live in the sky areas at the highest level.

Now, the boy follows the bounty hunter through the lower regions to the higher windy areas, where he feels the strong mountain winds that give the city its name.

The end of their trip was at the edge of the low and windy areas.

Walking into the Winter Wheat Tavern, Jude notices that the facilities are far inferior to those of Lance's Tavern. It was still early in the morning, and the hall was empty, very deserted, and somewhat dimly lit.

Life in the Northland is admittedly hard. Sighing secretly, the boy and Nosa went to the counter and checked in.

After arranging their luggage, the two left the tavern and arrived at the Lord's Mansion in the Sky Zone.

As Lord of Snowfall, the residence of the Marquis of Stoudemire Wollensis was a far cry from the Duke's Palace of Ranrens. Jude looked around, and in addition to the spaciousness, the houses and decorations were not even comparable to the residences in the Langlens Book District, let alone the manors in the aristocratic district.

In the humble parlor, the boy was able to witness the leader of the exiles in the North.

The Marquis of Wollensis had a very old countenance, and although he was rumored to be only about forty years old, his hair was already gray. But his body was majestic and strong, wearing a thick fur cloak, and his eyes were resolute, and he looked very energetic.

After some conversation, Jude found that the Marquis of Wollenses did not speak much, but he was concise and to the point, and his voice sounded equally vicissitudes and resolute.

According to the Marquis, the necromancer Modres suddenly appeared in the North in the middle of last month, and it seems that he has a sizable undead army under his command. Legend has it that the necromancer, who is not very old in appearance and has a strange style, has come to the Lord's Mansion and threatens to destroy Snowfall unless he meets one of his requests.

"Well, Lord Marquis, can you ask what that is?" Jude asked, curiously.

The Marquis of Worencis, however, shook his head, as if reluctant to reveal it.

Nossa duly explained, "Whatever it may be, it is clear that it is unacceptable to the lord, so he entrusts us. And the purpose of our trip is to solve this threat for the Marquis and the people of Xueluo. ”

In acknowledgment of Nosa's claims, the Marquis of Vorensis explained that Modress had destroyed a nearby village as a warning and had brought the bodies of the victims back to life as his necromantic servants.

"It's appalling, and this necromancer must not be allowed to harm more people. Jude imagined the innocent villagers who had lost their lives, "So, Lord Marquis, where is Modress now?"

The Marquis of Worencis shook his head again, and Nosa sighed and added again: "How could the lord know the whereabouts of a necromancer, and besides, as mentioned earlier, Modress has a strange and elusive style. ”

"We already know the general situation. Nossa thought about it for a moment and promised the lord, "We'll investigate the necromancer Modres' whereabouts and find a way to solve this scourge." ”

Later, the Marquis of Vorencheys entertained the boys and bounty hunters to lunch in the banquet hall, and when he walked out of the marquis's mansion, Jude was still lamenting the poor eating conditions of the Snowfall Lords: winter wheat tasted quite like buckwheat, with coarse and hard grains, and in the west only the poor would eat cereal porridge, while in the north it was the staple of the lord's luncheon.

And that cottage cheese...... The boy was savoring the meal he had just eaten when the bounty hunter next to him suddenly tapped him on the shoulder.

"Jude, remember. Nosa looked helpless, and he gave advice to the boy, "We are in the business of solving people's problems. Take money to do things, and try not to ask questions that shouldn't be asked. Listen more and talk less, and be cautious in what you say and do. ”

"Okay, I remember. Jude nodded, "So what should we do now?"

"No matter what you do, intelligence is always the highest priority. Nosa looked down at the windy and low regions below, "Let's start by asking for news about the necromancer Modres, and see what clues we can glea." ”

"Speaking of which," Nossa asked suddenly, after a pause, "Jude, I haven't told you the reward for this commission, have I?"

"Yes. So, how many?"

"Not a lot. Nosa paused, "One gold and forty silver." ”

-

Over the course of the afternoon, the boy and the bounty hunter traveled from the Sky District to the Low Regions and back to the Wind Zone, visiting the many inhabitants of Snowfall along the way to inquire about Modres.

However, most of the locals had only heard about Modres, and they were terrified of the necromancer's threat, but they didn't know much about it.

The days in the Northland were short, and soon it was twilight. Jude, who didn't have much to gain, was about to return to the tavern, but Nossa next to him suddenly remembered something:

"Perhaps, we should go to the church and ask about the priests, and those pastors might know about the necromancer. ”

"Church?" the teenager didn't like to hear.

"The Church of the Light," the bounty hunter added, "if I'm not mistaken, they just started a church in the Windy District this year, mostly to promote the Light faith in the Northlands. ”

The Church of Light, Jude recalls the two priests in the village, and Leia...... Thinking of Lamberting's catastrophe, the young man felt lonely again, and couldn't help but sigh.

"What's wrong, Jude?" Nosa looked at the melancholy sighing boy, "Did the Church of Light have any of your past fetishes?"

Jude nodded subconsciously, then shook his head, sorted out his mood and said, "It's nothing, let's go, let's go to the church to have a look." ”

So they went to the Cathedral of the Wind District and confessed their intentions, only to receive a surprising reply: Archbishop Alfonsos Tao happened to be in the church at the moment, accompanied by His Highness the Holy Maiden, and that the purpose of their trip to the Northland was to solve the threat of the necromancer Modres.

Unexpectedly, the boy and the bounty hunter were guided by their attendants to the altar in the church, where a middle-aged man in a bishop's robe was standing in front of the altar, probably the rumored Archbishop Alfonsos Tao.

Jude's eye, however, was the young girl beside the archbishop, dressed in a pristine white nun's garb and an equally white turban, but with short flaxen hair, pure pale cyan eyes, and a familiar face......

The boy rubbed his eyes, convinced that he had read correctly...... Isn't this Leia?
