Chapter Seventy-One: On the Verge
Cheese chases the Yew Man who has lost his shield with a flaming whip. His current state was very strange, his eyes that had been clear under the magic light were cloudy with anger, and the brilliance that bloomed gradually turned to chaos. In this state, the mage could not tell if the object he was chasing was really as afraid of fire as it appeared on the surface, or if he was simply luring him away from his companions.
He was intoxicated by the sound of waving, whipping, and fire whipping against the Yew man's armor and skin. In the continuous sorties, a powerful and scorching emotion surged from the depths of his heart, instantly filling his heart and brain. The most sane spellcaster became a captive of emotions in just a few seconds, and his face was hideous and he couldn't see any of his usual appearance.
Unknown, too many unknowns, this fog is unknown, yew people are unknown, goblins are unknown... Ah, that's enough, how far does this world have to suppress people before it ends? Why do you have so much unknowability, why do you have to give birth to so many complicated things? I have spent so much time and energy in the pursuit of knowledge, and so have my teachers, but why, why does it seem that there is no end to things in this world, why do we not see the boundaries of the world after so many years of driving in a carriage? Do you have to torture us in such a way? You have arranged so many appearances, the stars, the land, the trees, the forests, the animals... You use all this to bury the truth deep and not be noticed. Are you so scared? Afraid that somebody will find the answer to that secret. Well, if that's your approach, then I'm going to tear the whole world open and see what's in there!
When Cheese's emotions were at their peak, the breath of dawn in his hands began to glow a color different from that of the sun, it was a crazy color, and the Yew man closest to him was like a rabbit with its tail burned by fire at the sight of that color, and no longer kept a distance from the mage, and for the first time began to run for his life with all his heart. Fortunately, this brilliance only lasted for a very short moment, because in the next moment, Lothar's voice came from behind the mage's farewell.
"Cheese, what are these guys afraid of?" Lothar, who was entangled by the opponent in front of him, was also a little angry. He found that even though his tomahawk had crossed the shield and slashed at the Yew people's bodies and even the vital parts of humans, these tree-like creatures still looked painless and continued their attacks.
Unbeknownst to the Count, his words, somewhere between grumbling and questioning, had brought back Cheese, who had almost fallen into some very dangerous situation. No one knows what would happen if the mage let his emotions go about and unleash the non-magical power he wielded. But it was to be expected that it would probably be worse than when his teacher, Clark, and the current Lord of the Grey Tower, Ann Lina, sealed this power together a few years ago.
Awakened by his inexplicable emotions, the mage subconsciously threw the flaming dagger in his hand at the yew man who fled him, and the dagger hit the leather armor behind the latter, but the flames burning on it were enough to make the goblin let out a heart-rending scream. "Fire, they are afraid of fire. Cheese stood still, not looking at the enemies who were trying to surround him. Although he came to his senses, there was at least twenty paces between him and his companions, and these twenty steps were easy to run out, but difficult to return.
"It's easy to say, we didn't come out with torches. The Count's angry voice came again, and from this point of view, he should have no problem playing for a while and a half.
"You don't have to use a torch to start a fire. The mage regained his senses, plunging his left hand under his robes, flicking out a large amount of powder as the yew people around him swarmed up. As soon as the powder touched the Yew man's body, it immediately turned into blue flames, causing the mercenaries to slap in a hurry. Phosphorus powder, a substance that burns at normal temperatures, is often used as a trick material for street performers or crooks after some concoculation. And the real magic can make the phosphorus fire that doesn't burn for a long time become a continuous burn.
"Mortal Fire can't defeat them, it just makes them feel miserable. Just as Cheese seemed to have found a solution to the Yew people, Atalanta's words shattered his reasoning, "The only thing that can defeat the Yew people is the hellfire and pure iron in the abyss!"
If it were someone else, the mage might still question it, but after all, the female swordsman grew up in the land of goblins, and although some things did not exist in her subjective memory, they would still appear in her mind at the right time when she encountered the right stimulus. The problem now is that after learning about the Yew people's weaknesses, the group is surprised to find that they don't have either of these weaknesses. Cheese does know how to summon demons, but it's a very rigorous and time-consuming task that can't be done right now. As for pure iron, it is even more absurd, pure iron is rarely used in creation, and the so-called iron products and even steel products used by people are alloys mixed with other metals and carbon powder, not pure iron.
The battle, again at a stalemate. Using the trick of phosphorus fire, Cheese escaped the siege and returned to the shaman. The Yew Man was no longer timid after discovering that the blue flames on his body could not bring him substantial damage. Aside from the unlucky guy who was thrown by the mage's dagger, none of them were actually injured. Facing the enemy getting closer and closer, Cheese sighed.
"Wu Qi, do you have any suggestions?" the shaman is a spellcaster of the grasslands, and although this place is shrouded in mist, it is still a part of the grassland, and he may be able to provide some methods.
"I don't feel the guidance of the spirits here, and perhaps with the help of Batuu's arrows, I can ask for the help of the eagle spirits. But that doesn't sound like it helps us, does it?" said Wu Qi with some helplessness, shamans are in some way more limited by the environment than mages, because their power comes entirely from the spirits, and they are no different from ordinary people without the help of the spirits.
"Understood. Cheese replied simply, pouting. He does have a prop that can turn the situation around, but honestly he doesn't want to use it. Helplessly, the Yew people didn't think about the idea of the gray robe, and they came with their shields in their hands, becoming more cautious because of what had just happened.
"Phew, it seems that there is no other way. The mage once again lowered his left hand into the robe, and this action caused the yew people to subconsciously take a half step back. This time, he took out a flute, calling the dragon flute.
Seeing that Cheese was about to put the dragon flute to his mouth, the mist made an inopportune screaming and colliding sound, and there were fewer arrows. And when a huge black shadow appeared on the edge of the mist, no one would accuse the yew people of not sticking to their posts. Anyone who sees that huge black horned monster will do that.
"Moo!" With a roar filled with rage, the black bull emerged from the fog.
