Chapter 125: Lessons (Part II)
"Well, I'm sorry I want a steady source of resources. Gwen's voice took on a worried tone. What's wrong with a little cheat business?Wouldn't it be great if she had enough magic items?Or infinite crystals to buy possessions and skills?Couldn't her previous technology be translated?Damn, she could organize a league of alchemists to reduce costs through quantity and scale. She can then repackage and repackage the "Ye Lao Healing Needle" into an identical "healing elixir", which is 10-20% cheaper, and then sells it after gaining a "brand" approved by the tower. Eventually, they can find a spokesperson, a well-known magician or mester, and ask them to "promote" the product in exchange for benefits or resources. In a world that is as blind to business as the wizard's world, Gwen has many ways to control the market.
"Richard is right," Claudia interrupted her thoughts. "Gwen, if you want to follow this path, you need resources and guidance. Resources, no matter how much you have, are limited. Think of all the tribes and their treasure troves full of crystals and items. Aside from mythical artifacts, do you think it would make a big difference when you and Richard were stripped of their crystals and CCs system in the dungeon?"
"I don't think so," Gwen admitted.
"Crystals, objects, wealthβthese things are material, so they become immaterial," Pabulia sages as he sings. "In the end, your biggest investment is yourself, and for a mage, there is only one resource that is limited. β
Gwen ventured to guess.
"Life?"
Cravdia confirmed her hypothesis.
"I see. Gwen looked at a small mountain of potential courses, each of which contained valuable knowledge. How great would it be if she could gain access to the mystical knowledge contained therein? And how great was her potential? But nothing could alleviate the pain of the tyranny of time, for the hands of time turned without mercy. "There isn't enough time in the world. β
"That's right," her Pabria continued. "First of all, you only have three years to carry out whatever plan Lord Schultz and yourself have agreed. Assuming you and Richard achieve the goals you set, you will have a more limited amount of time to mark your place in the world. By that time, you have made great strides on the path of the Asura and will always need more power and influence. β
"You'll need a longer spear to defeat a bigger tiger," Richard chimed in a colloquial saying. "Sounds depressing, doesn't it? We've run this far, Gwen, don't stop to catch your breath!"
A point of no return, Gwen thought tremblingly. From a metaphysical point of view, it is a never-ending path of practice. Not a bay-view bedroom with floor-to-ceiling windows, of course.
"So we fought our way, against the current, and kept going back in time," Gwen recited sadly, as we sailed toward a blood-coloured horizon where the sun never set, and we were all trapped on this rickety raft. β
She shook her head, trying to dispel her sudden frustration at the endless toil. Today's success only means that tomorrow the hurdles will be higher. A momentary victory only means that there will be a bigger enemy later. A corpse becomes another number among countless statistics.
"It's not all bad luck and gloom. Richard reached out and touched her hand. "Didn't you meet Avia and Xiaoyue along the way? You've seen me, right? You've found Babria, isn't she the cutest woman you've ever met?"
"What's the matter, thank you, Richard. Pabria burst out laughing.
"I'm just telling the truth, Pabloa," Richard replied solemnly. "There is no intimate relationship between Gwen and his family, that's to put it mildly. My father, her mother, and even Uncle Hymers. Gwen has been alone for so long, I don't know how she did it. β
She didn't succeed, and Gwen felt a sense of guilt in her chest. Old Gwen had no desire for the world she was born into, so somehow, I came to the fate she gave up.
"Richard on the right, Pabria. Gwen stepped out of her seat and walked behind her skinny grandmother. She stretched out her arms and hugged her from behind, pressing her face against Klavdia's pale yellow hair. "Thank you. β
Kravdia wrapped Gwen's slender arm around her, then kissed Gwen's fingers, fingers brushing her lips.
"I'm glad you're here. Kravdia was also full of emotion.
The two women hugged each other affectionately, sharing intimate moments of filial piety with a palpable sentimentality.
Not bad. Richard observed the whole process with satisfaction. He was a smart man, and he said that honesty was good.
"So, Fudan?" Claudia asked cautiously, her eyes moving towards Richard's, who sparkled with complete innocence.
"Fudan," Gwen said at last, her voice full of conviction.
"It's Fudan," Richard repeated behind Gwen, smiling like a fox.
The West likes to say that where there is a will, there is a way, and the East means that where there are people, there is a relationship. For Kravdia, the good workings of her network began to work the moment Gwen decided to revise.
In the afternoon of the same day, two applications appeared on the dean's desk, as well as a letter of commendation from the Pudong Building for the two students and a letter of recommendation from the director of the Second Military Hospital of the People's Liberation Army. A private letter was also attached, which Luo Jiang opened carefully, revealing the perfect handwriting of a woman whom he felt so enthusiastic and admired. A few years ago, Luo's mother fell ill and needed a rare level 7 platinum dragon salamander Logan to prolong her life. Using all his influence, Law tried to find unique ingredients, but without success. He remained in despair until the last moment, when an old alumnus of the university heard about his plight and received a precious piece of fruit from her laboratory. It was Kravdia's song, and although Luo's mother was still deceased, her death was peaceful and joyful, without the pain of dementia and disease.
When this request was first passed, Luo had already frowned and grimaced. Fudan is a C9 university, so severe penalties have been imposed to prevent its peers from being filled with well-connected garbage, and to resist the opening of the "back door".
Of course, such things still happen, but these are all required of students to pay full tuition fees. These applications are all for positions where scholarship loans are sought, which is very rare.
He owes Kraftia a favor, but as dean, Rowe does have a moral duty to uphold the university's academic authority. If Nathan Law had been in office at the end of his term, he might have considered something like this to repay the favor, but he had only been in office for a few years and did not want his legacy to end up as a corrupt official who was ousted from power.
Still, hesitation at least made Law cautious about his choice. He cautiously picked up an application. The attached photograph is of a young Eurasian who looks slightly larger than the average applicant, possibly a military returnee.
"Hmmm......"
Law's eyes scanned the lines.
Was the boy the governor of the prince's house?
Layer 5 magician, layer 1 renouncer. Nineteen?!
Law blinked. His gaze went beyond the biometrics to the talent area.
Grade T 8 water.
"Wow!" he said loudly. "*** star!"
"Are you alright, sir?" a lovely female face hid in the doorway. Luo liked the "open door" policy, but no student dared to meet him without a prior appointment. "Is your toe broken again?"
"Nothing, Alan. How's the report going?"
"I'm working on them!" its owner made a screeching noise on the floor.
"Okay. Law went back to the application and continued typing. β
Layer 8? That's impossible. Luo felt that something must be wrong.
He kept reading and found comfort in the appendix, saying that Huang Guangyu had a noble spirit. Red Star, Luo thought to himself. This kid is so lucky. Luo himself is almost 50 years old, a master of magic, and at his peak, even then, he was only a clever mid-level air elf. He continued to look at the papers, and when he finished reading them, he had to pound the table thoughtfully to digest the tingling sensation in his chest.
This application is not a good thing for him. Even though Fudan currently has a large number of students, it is difficult to ignore such a talented person. Of course, he still had to meet the young man and put him to the test to see if his abilities were tested, but he already felt that the likelihood of disappointment was slim.
Law was now less disgusted by the "favor" he had to give, so he skimmed through the second application.
A girl of almost 17 years old, very pretty, of unclear ethnicity.
Luo pouted. This girl may be likable, but her talent is irreparable. His secretary, Ellen, is Attachment A. The name on the application form is "Gwen Song", which is not a name he recognizes anywhere, but his last name is very intriguing. Is she another member of the Klavdia family? Luo Sixi approved Mrs. Song's application for the last time, the wife of the head of Microsoft's confidential communications department and the director of the Second Hospital of the People's Liberation Army. This is the mineral magician Petra Kuznetsov, from which Fudan has benefited greatly. When he spoke to Venerable Wen for the last time, she told him that she and her apprentice had made substantial progress in using the Rubik's Cube and were preparing to publish an academic paper on the subject in the next six months.
"Well, let's see what you find. Luo opened the application and scanned the girl's biometrics, apparently more interested than the youngster.
Where the hell is the black wattle? Luo found himself thinking. She's from Sydney, Australia? Is she a refugee? He frowned in dismay. There is nothing disturbing about her report card. In fact, it is insignificant and does not exist at all.
Luo flipped through the application form, and at that moment he realized that the form in his hand was several times thicker than he expected.
With a sense of foreboding, he flipped open the cover.
A bunch of incredible numbers and statistics flooded his eyes.
"Wow!" Luo couldn't help but let out an involuntary skeptical. His hands trembled and his knees bumped. He almost tore off a page of the application form.
"Are you alright, sir?" Ellen's elf-like face shrank back into the hallway. "Did you get the tea on your pants? Or did you spill the inkwell again? Should I call a cleaner to wipe your pants for you?"
"I'm fine!" Law walked to the door, slamming it shut.
He returned to his desk, application in hand, like a man who had discovered the core of a dungeon in a salt marsh and now didn't know what to do.
Level 4 lightning?
Doesn't work at Layer 4?
Emptiness! Law wanted to jump up from the table and do a little jig. In fact, because Ellen wasn't looking, he did just that.
An empty novice! In the wild! Law could barely control himself. As the dean of a C9 university, he had to compete with other universities for talent. Although Fudan is one of China's top academic institutions, it often loses out some of its best and brightest to Jingyan, Peking University, and even Jiantong in Shanghai. These are the three major institutions sponsored by the Communist Party of China, and the schools, dynasties and clans that have deep roots with the People's Liberation Army.
When a unique genius emerges in the wild, the school's Boy Scouts follow them for years, offering rewards, help, and even tutoring so that students choose to join their school.
But who's laughing now! Law rejoiced. Fudan will be the first judge to produce a nihilistic judge! Mao felt a tingle at the thought of the prospect of this matter.
When was the last time a blank mage appeared?Elizabeth Sobel?, though, she's an archmage of a Commonwealth war, and she's got a tricky ending, and she's been swallowed up by her talent, or rather, that's it. But unlike in the 70s, the theoretical processes of the elements, signals and airplanes, developed by leaps and bounds. They at least know what the Void is now, how to counter its effects, what to expect, and how it affects the caster. This Gwen song will be well handled. He could have put her at the Coast Sheriff's, or Judge Gongsun, hell, why can't they have both?
And then there's Lightning! The highest element in monster hunting, with high damage potential and speed. Law realizes that he is so fascinated by the idea of a university to train a Void Mage that he ignores an important fact: Gwen Song has two elements.
Where did Kravdia find her granddaughter? Law couldn't help but be startled again. What exactly did they feed her in Australia?
Another appendix is also included in the spell stats, explaining the principles behind Gwen's twin element, as well as a requirement for secrecy. After reading this beautiful manuscript, Luo had to agree, if anyone knew that a person could create a mage with two elements, it would be to have the master conceive twins, and then induce a pair of twins to eat the other...
Luo shuddered. With a simple chant, the postscript turned into cinders.
Some knowledge is best kept out of the sun. Law was more than happy to give the secret to Kraftia. For his part, Gwen Song is a strange product of a strange arithmetic of chance.
He continued to read.
Magic seems to be the girl's main ability, but the girl has few spells worth noting, only a dozen.
Underneath the information on Gwen's spell is a description and image of her family. Two acquaintances, Luo said. The first is an ordinary beast, an ordinary lightning marten. The other is an indescribable thing that consumes life to nourish its host, a shapeshifter.
Luo put down the application and pinched the bridge of his nose. He quickly developed a resistance to a series of accidents.
He continued to read.
"Woooooooo
"Are you alright, sir?" said Ellen's voice from behind the oak door.
On the third level, evoke first-level transmutation, renunciation, divination?
What fate did Kravdia inflict on him? Can he even bear the burden of this terrible being? What if this Gwen Song is no longer the power of their creation, but more like the power they unleashed?
But Rowe is an educator. If there's one adage for all the world's mystical universities, it's that they dream of cultivating a spellcaster who can change the status quo, break the deadlock, and expand the realm of humanity beyond their barren enclaves.
"Alan, come here," he called his secretary. οΌ
No one answered.
"Alan, come here!" he shouted toward the door.
The oak door opened, and Ellen strode across the threshold in stilettos, wrapped tightly in a white shirt and gray pencil skirt.
"Yes, Jiang?" Alan tiled her porcelain doll face. "You're calling?"
"Send these two applications to the Academic Affairs Office and ask Han to put them together with the mid-term scholarship. β
"Sir?"
Law used a spell to paint a short font on the Manila envelope and seal it so that the recipient could only read the letter.
"Give it to him personally and tell him to put these applicants on the shortlist. Go ahead. Do it now. Don't let anyone see you. β
"Yes, master. Ellen took the envelope and hugged it tightly to her chest. In the blink of an eye, she became as blurry as air, turning into a wisp of wind,
Luo walked back to his desk, feeling the weight of the application in his hand, his heart still pounding.
He never knew that a dozen pieces of paper could weigh as much as the rest of the world.
