Intermission (5) Answers to questions from book friends

Some book friends in the group pointed out that I gave too little information about the character of Ernest, which made readers feel that this supporting role was not clearly described, and they were scolding the protagonist as soon as they came up, which made people feel very annoying and insufficient foreshadowing. This is indeed because I can hide some of the descriptions of Ernest in order to create a cold image, and leave enough secrets and foreshadowing on him, and deliberately, my writing has never been too friendly to the reader, and sometimes it makes people very unhappy to read, which I introspect and try to change in the future, and never do so in the next book.

Regarding Ernest, this character has been mentioned from the beginning, but there are very few actual appearances, there are not many character descriptions, only some past events from the mouths of other characters, and some of Ernest's experiences can be known. It can be said that this character in the first two volumes is placed, and as a background board like most of the supporting characters, it is not until the end of the previous volume that he is given a lot of scenes, especially the duel with Swain. And in this volume, Ernest will have more scenes, his lunch box will also be received in this volume, and many foreshadowing lines that have been hidden in him will also be revealed at the end of this volume.

Before revealing the foreshadowing of Ernest, it is necessary for me to explain the origin of the contradiction between Ernest and Swain. In the book, I have repeatedly spoken of the Marquis de Metternich, Wood, and others, showing that Ernest and Winston Sr. have a deep conflict, and their conflict comes from Ernest's rebellion against the Jericho family tradition. As the jailers of Atropos, the Jericho family must stay in the land of the Midnight Earldom, sticking to the rules of the past, and this is a sign of inadequacy for Ernest, he is unwilling to accept such a fate, so he ran from Midnight Fort to the imperial capital seventeen years ago, leaving behind his wife and children, and even looking for another marriage.

The contradiction between Ernest and Old Winston is a contradiction between two ideas, Ernest believes that it should adapt to the times, and groups such as the southern aristocracy will eventually be abandoned by the times. In the book, the southern part of the Sililian Empire is actually somewhat like the historical Second German Empire, with many semi-independent states, and these states and the Junker aristocracy were conservative factors in the empire, which were obstacles to the establishment of the mainstream centralized nation-state at that time. Germany's path to capitalism was relatively peculiar, they retained feudal land ownership and carried out capitalism in a way that gradually replaced the exploitation of serfdom with capitalist exploitation.

One thing to point out here is that although I didn't mention it directly in the book, Ernest didn't know about the existence of Atropos, because it would be suspected of spoilers, so I won't elaborate on it here, but I can only say that there is a difference between Ernest and Winston's understanding of the Jericho family, so there will be a contradiction between the two views. And this contradiction was continued by Ernest to Swain, he regarded Swain as taught by the old Winston, another crippled Jericho, he transferred his hatred of the old Winston to Swain, the two of them have opposite ideas, they are contradictory to each other, so Ernest will be so disgusted with Swain, and even want to kill Sven. Of course, Ernest wanted to kill Swain for other reasons, but spoilers are involved, so I won't list them here.

When Ernest first appeared, Swain's conversation with the Marquis of Metternich already showed that he was inheriting and supporting his grandfather's ideas, so although Ernest had never met Swain before, he understood at that time that Swain was on his side, and for other reasons, he broke out into a violent conflict with Swain and wanted to kill Swain. Maybe these details are not obvious enough, and they can't be considered very real, considering the specific mental activity process of the characters, it may not be so simple, so it will cause a lot of empty trouble to the reader, here I apologize, these are my mistakes caused by mishandling, frankly speaking, I spent insufficient energy on many details, and did not carry out careful scrutiny and thinking, which will lead to such problems.

The second question raised by the book friend is the contradiction between Yang and Swain, indeed, Yang's hatred for Swain is too unprovoked and too abrupt, compared to Ernest, Yang is a person who has never had anything to do with Swain before, and should not want to kill Swain as soon as they meet. However, in my character, Yang is an extreme character, I have described in many places, Yang is extremely rebellious, paranoid, unwilling to accept the favor of others, and even revenge, he is a rather self-centered character, even if his actions are wrong, he will not admit that he is wrong, even if he suffers a crime, he must be hard-mouthed (what should this attribute be called?). So, he and Swain are naturally offensive, if it's fair, Swain's personality is more annoying, he and Ramrem are very similar, that is, both of them are more poisonous (a standing attribute of facial paralysis), and I have some in many places, and other characters will say that Swain is an annoying guy (although this will be a little flirtatious when it comes out of the mouth of Princess Celestia). And Yang is a radical character, this is actually similar to Sven, I don't know if everyone will feel like this, for the people he hates will hate him to die (I have always been like this, since I was a child, I can't wait for those who are tired of watching them, and I want to kill them in the most cruel way), so Yang hates Swain extremely much, and because of his paranoia, he refuses to admit the fact that he was defeated by Swain, so he has trouble Sven several times after that, even if he has been defeated repeatedly. In fact, Yang and Swain have some similarities, that is, they can be regarded as people with backbones, Yang was raised by Count Hecate, but in the end he indirectly killed Count Hecate, Swain is against his father, and for those who express kindness to him, Swain never appreciates it, and even uses it backhandedly, so Yang partially sees in Swain his own ingratitude to Count Hecate, which he does not want to agree with (this is called oral integrity?). Seeing his own shadow in the person he hates the most is one of the reasons why Yang doesn't want to see Sven, so he will be impatient to kill Sven.

Of course, such reasons are a bit too romanticized and subjective, and may not necessarily satisfy readers who pursue the real psychological activities of the characters, and I myself admit that in order to set up a character like Yang who is the opposite of the protagonist, I am a little hasty and not enough foreshadowing, which is also my lack of pen power.

I will answer the question that Watson Xiang asked me here, I welcome such a pick, the reader asks a question, I can find a problem that I can't see, after all, from the author's point of view, and the information that the reader knows is not equal, sometimes it is inevitable to have negligence, I hope there will be such suggestions in the future.

I also hope that the next book can be written a little better, and I won't make these mistakes again.

Next is the meme you failed to complain about (continued)

It's really unexpected that you didn't complain about the stalk in the Avenger of Vengeance, I said it so obviously, the two poems that Edward was going to read, the word "Gou" came out, don't you know what this is? )

Mrs. Jane's name actually comes from Jane Eyre, but of course it's actually quite different, Ernest and Rochester are similar to each other in some way, because they are both married and meet new people they really like.

Alans Nope Pesa, the character is based on Lelouch (unexpectedly), in fact, it is not strictly speaking, Alans Pesa is the pseudonym used by Lelouch in the first season, and when he tricked Veretta into coming down from Knightmare, he said this: "My name is Alan Pesa, and my father is a duke." ”

The prototype of the battle in the western suburbs was Takeda Shingen's famous victory or defeat against Uesugi Kenshin- The fourth battle of Kawanakajima (I'm not suitable for writing about wars, especially the wars of the era of queuing to shoot, there is really nothing to write about), according to the novelist, Takeda Shingen used Yamamoto Kansuke's woodpecker tactics to send other troops to use the dense fog of Kawanaka Island to make a detour to attack Uesugi Kenshin's wife and daughter Yamamoto Formation, and the headquarters pretended to be a large army to confront Uesugi Kenshin, not wanting the tactics to be seen through by Uesugi Kenshin, the Uesugi army directly attacked Takeda Shingen's main camp by heavy fog, the Takeda army was defeated, and Takeda Shingen himself was almost killed under Kenshin's sword (novelist words) 。

The gun that Swain gave Sophia and Caterina was based on the weapon used by Accardo in "Hellsing", and Uncle A only introduced his weapon like this: "The silver cross of Lanchester Cathedral is made of 13mm burst iron armor, and there is no one who eats this guy's blow." When I read it, I felt that this sentence was particularly domineering.

The Iron Raven Castle in the special chapter, in fact, is the prototype of the Tower of London, which originally existed as a prison and was also an easy-to-defend fortress, and originally the Tower of London was home to many rare and exotic beasts, and now only the black crow is said to be closely related to the fortune of the country.
