Professor Moriarty smiled, "You want to win?"
"It's the best chance of winning for me, otherwise I wouldn't have agreed. β
"I thought you didn't care about winning or losing. β
Holmes frowned, shoved his pipe into his mouth, and lit it.
"Sherlock Holmes, you've seen it clearly, right?"
"What?"
"The world is changing, and justice is gone. β
"What does that have to do with you and me?"
"Sherlock Holmes, change itself is the most precious thing in the world. Haven't you thought about it? If you change the world a little bit in the direction you want, maybe everyone's fate will change completely. β
"I see...... "Holmes nodded in the smoke, "that's why you're planning this trial?"
"Let's think about your profession, Sherlock Holmes, you call it, detective consultant, why should a detective like a truth-seeker consult another person?"
"People always run into problems that they can't solve, and it's normal to ask others for help. β
"No, there is something in human nature that they will do what they want to do with someone stronger than them. Sherlock Holmes, this means comfort to most mediocre people, when they are faced with an unsolvable problem, just ask someone better than themselves to help. And for those who are already above the majority, that means responsibility. β
"I may understand what you're saying," Holmes laughed, "but I'm not going to let Watson hand out flyers on the street." β
"Ah, Sherlock Holmes, your gloomy nature has made you a hermit, for you feel that the majority of people are naturally righteous. How sad, every time I see you, I feel deep fear. β
"If it's because of your criminal record......"
"No," Moriarty interrupted Holmes rudely, who seemed to have finally lost his patience and roared, "that's because of your stupidity! We are the same people, Sherlock Holmes! We know that we are different from most people in the world, so you, a genius with a quirk of dark psychology but always believing in justice, comforted the soul by the friendship of a stupid mortal, Dr. Watson, turned a blind eye to the real transcendent, and became a stranger who did not exist!" And I, I gladly accepted this difference, and fulfilled my destiny! You think I'm the leader of a criminal gang, but I'm not, I'm the guide of mortals, I give these beasts crawling in the mud a rope to make them crawl faster than their kind, they appreciate me, they love me, do you know what this act represents? I am the Savior! I am the Last Judgment! I bring the Messiah, I decide what the new world will look like! And you, you could have done the same, but you chose to hide, cut off from the world because of the fate you carry!"
"Dr. Watson is just dull," Holmes listened calmly to the professor's speech, "and he's not stupid. And I really don't feel that you, or I, are any messiah. β
"When the sins of mortals accumulate to the point that God can't bear it, the Messiah will come, and what do you think science is? He's just a stonemason, not even a finger of yours. Have you never thought about the question of why you always do better than everyone else, if you are willing to do it?"
"So this conceit made you the criminal boss of the city?"
"Conceited? We're the same kind of people, Sherlock Holmes, and if you call that thing conceited, well, you're a conceited person too. Moriarty finally calmed down, "You're the most disgusting thing I can become, Sherlock Holmes. β
"You too, Moriarty. β
The two men sat on the couch and looked at each other as if they were looking at themselves in a mirror, except that he had become the most disgusting to himself, so he had anger and pity on his face.
"I didn't think about the idea of manipulating the jury, not before and not again, listen to Professor Moriarty. This is the only way for me to see the way justice falls on you, and you don't want the jury to be indulgent, and so am I. β
"It was better so, Mr. Holmes. β
These were the last words Moriarty said before leaving.
......
"Boss, what did little William say? He must have agreed......
Old William looked at the smiling subordinate beside him and knew that he was just a sycophant waste.
But this is his military advisor, and old William finally decided to say something, after all, when the changes are surging, this man will stand by his side.
"You guessed it, it's worthy of being my military advisor, ahahaha!"
The advisor laughed back, and then disappeared silently when old William wanted to think about things alone.
William Jr.'s reaction was a bit strange.
Old William thought about it, and felt that this might be his delusion, after all, too many things had happened in this short morning, and no one could still be like before.
In any case, things have developed out of everyone's expectations, at a terrifying pace.
Professor Moriarty's failure was beyond anyone's imagination, and William Sr. knew he had to do something, but he was lost after suddenly finding another direction.
William Jr. didn't say anything, but he seemed to be thinking about it, something that no one would sayβthe possibility of Professor Moriarty being put in prison.
Old William was alone in the room, and he looked out the window at the dense crowd of the docks and the towering chimneys of the steam area, pondering the two options before him.
"Ah......h
In the end, he gave up on attacking the professor and chose to continue to support Moriarty, after all, it was time to send charcoal in the snow.
"William Jr., Magellan......"
William Sr. read the names of the jurors on the list, and finally found a few names that he was confident to convince.
"Lily Windsor, what a great name, especially for a ...... Beggars. β
......
"Jack, how many people do you know on this list?"
"All. β
William Jr. smiled, knowing that poverty in Xicheng District did not mean incompetence.
"Where do we start?"
"A young lady named Lily Windsor is a beggar to the outside. β
"Externally?"
She knew a number of people, including Professor Magellan and Mr. Holmes's personal adviser, Mr. Wiggins. β
"A ball of thread is exposed at the outermost end of the thread, and you can't let it go, right?"
