Chapter 22: The Valkyries
A gust of wind blew suddenly.
Magellan turned around, but didn't see who was supposed to be behind him, the ashes raised by the wind obscuring his vision.
Then Magellan heard the sound of horses' hooves.
That's absolutely not normal.
A tall white horse emerged from the wind, and when the smoke cleared, Magellan finally saw it in its entirety.
The horse had swan-like wings, but they were large enough to support its massive body to fly, and on its back was a knight, a heavily armed warrior of Esyad.
"Valkyrie?"
The warriorwoman was dressed in gold armor, armed with a shield and spear, and her winged helmet obscured most of her face, revealing only bright black eyes.
"Hello, mortal warriors. ”
"I'm sorry," Magellan said, looking around, "I can't let you take the souls of the war dead. ”
Valkyrie laughed: "There's no need anymore. ”
As she spoke, she hung her shield on her horse, and with her free left hand, she took a conch from her body and handed it to Magellan.
"Nidhogg is destined to disappear into the abyss, and the people here suffer unjustified calamities. They were not meant to die, so they were allowed to be resurrected. ”
"Allowed?"
"After this conch is blown, the deceased can return. But you can keep it, and when you die in battle, I will come and blow it for you and get you back to the battlefield. ”
Valkyrie let out a long sigh: "You killed Nidhogg, warrior, but unfortunately we can't get a reward worthy of you, this conch has only one ......"
"Don't worry, I love the reward. ”
Magellan took the conch from the Valkyrie and put it to his mouth.
Valkyrie reached out to stop it, but it was too late.
A crisp sound sounded, like a sea breeze blowing across the cliff shore.
Cheers and screams were heard in the distance.
Magellan laughed.
"Thank you. ”
"No," the Valkyrie sighed, shaking her head, "Nidhogg is our curse, and the Nine Kingdoms thank you." ”
After saying that, the heroic female warrior bowed her head and saluted, and then the war horse galloped away.
The wind finally stopped.
Magellan put away the conch, the smoke cleared, and in front of him were countless people standing in the ruins looking around.
"Welcome back. ”
......
Mrs. Hudson was wiping tears from her eyes while she hugged Holmes, and if she didn't know them, she would have thought that Holmes was the one who had just been resurrected.
Actually, the landlady is.
The entire Baker Street was in ruins, 221B was not spared, and Holmes was left homeless, but he didn't seem to care.
"Okay, okay Mrs. Hudson, no one is hurt, everything is fine. ”
Sherlock Holmes showed a rare display of patience and tenderness, and he was indeed good at gaining the trust of ladies, as Watson had said.
"Need a rental service, Detective?"
Magellan interrupts the touching reunion, but it doesn't seem that Sherlock Holmes thinks anything bad.
"I remember not so long ago you were living in someone else's attic. ”
"Don't say that," Magellan smiled helplessly, "I found a place to stay near the Academy, which was not touched because it was close to the suburbs. ”
"We really needed a place where we could at least have a cup of tea and rest, even if we didn't live there. ”
Watson said yes almost without hesitation.
He did have reason to be anxious, now it was an unconcealed ruin, and it was full of people who had just experienced the separation of life and death, and were in shock.
"Let's go, I've hired a carriage. ”
The whole city was in chaos, some people cheered because they had come back from the dead, some wept bitterly in the ashes of all their possessions, some hid in their homes and rejoiced, and some stood in the empty ruins in confusion.
Everything outside the carriage was like an absurd drama, but that was reality.
"It's terrible, although I don't know why, in the end the dead are all resurrected, but ...... It's really horrible. ”
Watson was still lamenting that he didn't want to pick up the painful memories, but the scene outside the window reminded the survivors that the disaster had just passed.
"As long as humans are around, the city can be rebuilt, and it won't take long. ”
Magellan's words sounded unconvincing consolation, but no one refuted them, after all, everyone wanted to see a glimmer of hope now.
After leaving the ruins, things got better, there wasn't much of an impact there, the slain were resurrected, and there was a crowd of revelers everywhere, looking hopeful.
Except for the explorers.
It was as if they were running for their lives, running wild through the streets, even ignoring being hit by a carriage, just to get to their destination earlier.
"The Explorers' Guild?"
"We need a detour. ”
Magellan leaned out of the window and told the driver to reroute.
As he expected, the road ahead had been blocked by the gathered explorers, and the crowd was huddled with the carriage so that he could not even turn away.
"What's going on?"
"I don't know. ”
The coachman was glad that he had escaped being trapped inside, so he turned around and hurried away.
Then from behind came a shout that rose to the sky: "It's really a lot!
......
Magellan led Sherlock Holmes and his party into the room.
It is a beautiful and comfortable apartment by any standard, located on the side of a street, a small two-storey building, with a garden with roses of different colors.
"It's beautiful. ”
"This is the Society's property, and I don't know who the donor is, but I think it's an aristocrat. ”
Magellan walked into the kitchen and came out with black tea.
"Please sit casually. ”
Holmes walked to the window and looked out into the backyard, where there was a beautiful apple tree.
"The previous owner must have spent a long time and effort tending to the garden, and I regret it when I think that it will soon become overgrown with weeds due to the laziness of the owner. ”
Magellan knew that Holmes was right, and that he was about to leave Ruidu and embark on a new journey.
"So, would you like to hire me as your gardener?"
"What?"
Sherlock Holmes smiled: "I've been studying the cultivation of roses, it's one of my hobbies, rest assured, I'm definitely a qualified gardener, and maybe I can add a new decoration to your garden." ”
"No ......"
"The war is about to begin. Sherlock Holmes turned and looked up at the overly clear sky, "for a long time, the whole country will be in combat readiness, and we ......"
