Chapter Twenty-Six: The Journey
The Duke stood on the hill and looked out, the dense forest above the mountains was as blue as ink, the distant sky was a white blue, and there was a half-black and half-red sunset at the junction of the two.
It was evening, and with a chill in the wind, the Duke strode down the hill and into the depths of the forest.
Every step is like a deep memory, and the savage vitality changes everything, but it seems as if it has never changed.
In the depths of the forest, the starlight is exceptionally bright, and the life that was originally hiding from the sun begins to be revealed, frolicking and noisy in the forest.
The Duke's ever-expressionless face showed a look of remembrance, and he sighed silently in his heart, walking along the beautiful forest path.
Then the destination finally arrived.
"Welcome, knight. ”
A noble lady stood under a tree with a face full of surprise.
"I'm here for the broken sword. ”
"Ah, of course. ”
The noble lady smiled and sighed, she shook her head and walked deeper into the woods: "The sisters will need help to reforge the broken sword, and they must be glad to know that you have finally changed your mind. ”
The Duke was silent and walked on, hesitation rising in his heart once more, not knowing if he should really reforge the broken sword.
"Don't worry, the curse of this sword is not inevitable, and we will prepare a way for you to dodge it. ”
"I'm not worrying about myself. ”
"But who else but you, the valiant knight, is there to worry about?"
Lady, a seductive smile appeared on the face of the fairy of the lake, and in that moment, the whole forest was illuminated and the animals stayed in place.
"Either way, you can always come back here and live forever in Avalon, and our promise will always be valid. ”
The Duke shook his head.
If he really wanted to live forever, the sword wouldn't break.
At the end of the forest path, behind the two large trees like guardians, there was a glade, and in the center was a deep lake, the water of which was very dark.
There was a small river running through the lake, which happened to be a bend, and in another lake the nymphs were looking for something among the reeds by the river.
"Ah, at last, child's wrath. ”
She looked up with a smile and flew towards the duke.
"Welcome, knight, I'm so glad to hear that!"
"Thank you. ”
The Duke had become accustomed to the fuss of these lake fairies, and in any case, they were the only beings capable of reforging the Broken Sword, and now Britannia needed strength.
"No, it's you who need strength, and the death of the sword-wielder is the real disaster. ”
Another fairy parted the lake and walked out of the abyss, with a broken sword in her hand.
It was the Duke's previous weapon, cut off by Magellan in the distant New World, after which the Duke sent the broken sword back here, determined not to use it again.
But now he had changed his mind.
"I must remind you, knight, that in the oath, keeping this power in the hands of the knight is the most important part. ”
"I'll get the sword back alive. ”
An inexplicable glint flashed in the eyes of the lake fairy, but she didn't say anything more.
"Let's get started. ”
The three fairies stood together, the broken sword in the center, and then they began to chant the spell.
"The anger of a child makes you red,
The despair of a woman, bearing its weight,
A man's greed makes you solid. ”
It was a terrifying magic, and the Duke knew how hard the broken sword was, but the fairy of the lake could still soften it and merge it back together.
The Duke knelt on one knee and slashed his palm, letting the blood fall on the sword as proof of the new longsword owner.
The two sections of steel glowed a blinding red light and slowly melted.
......
Magellan stood on a rocky hill and looked out at the snow-capped mountains to the south.
This is where Arthur met the conch, the castle of a "stubborn old countryman".
The southerly winds in the south of the Holy Loren Empire are wet and cold all year round, but fortunately, the weather is good, and the sun can bring a little warmth.
After the meeting with the King of the World, Magellan was on the airship the next day, and he was glad that the offense to the King of the World did not affect the trip.
"Hey, let's see who's in this faraway place!"
Arthur walked out of the castle with exaggerated enthusiasm to welcome Magellan, just as he had shown off before, and the owner of the place was impressed with the bounty hunter, so he gave Magellan a warm welcome.
The baron was clearly not wealthy, and his undisguised stubbornness and bad temper made life in the castle worse, but fortunately, the mountain was too remote for anyone to think of taking it away.
The aristocratic lord, who was suspected to be a descendant of the ancient Vikings, entertained Magellan according to standard aristocratic etiquette, and the sausages at the banquet were unexpectedly delicious, the bread was so hard that the beer was swept away almost as soon as it was served.
After the welcome feast, the baron led the two to his study.
There weren't a single book, the shelves were full of weapons, a huge bear head hung on the wall, and candles were lit on the table, but there were no books.
"I've been careful since the last time I was stolen. ”
The baron was drunk, but he could still walk like a bear, but he couldn't pick the lock with a key.
Arthur took the lead and laid the baron down on the chair, and then he opened a wooden box with the key he had easily obtained, and took out a large book from it.
"Yes, my heirloom!"
The baron's voice was like thunder.
Magellan placed the book on the table and turned over the wooden cover.
"The Historical ...... of the Schmidt Family"
The first sentence on the title page was in Esyad Runifin, and Magellan laughed.
"The first generation, Olaf. ”
It was a typical Esyad story, a poor boy with nothing, all his loved ones dying in a blizzard, angrily rushing onto a warship, and then being extremely lucky to survive the battle and have his own weapon.
The Esyad pirate had no scruples, he was almost born to be a berserker, and after a long battle, the boy suddenly found that he had his own ship and territory, as well as his wife and children.
Unfortunately, the first Schmidt died on the battlefield, and everyone believed that Odin had taken his soul.
Magellan involuntarily began to read the book carefully, originally just to go through it and find useful clues from it.
The second Schmidt was the youngest of the brothers, and his father was killed in battle on the day he was born, so the child was seen as a natural avenger, and everyone around him had high hopes for him.
And he didn't disappoint.
At the age of ten, this Schmidt was able to take up his father's weapon, and then at the age of thirteen, he completed his revenge.
