Chapter Eighty-Eight: The Test

Magellan is still climbing.

The arduous road seems to be never-ending.

He had gone through difficulties unimaginable to man, slept with the reliefs, shivered in the wind that seemed to never stop, and now Magellan clearly felt the difficulty of breathing.

It's already a high place where the air is so thin that you can't breathe.

If you look down at the ground at this time, in addition to the dizzying and terrifying height, you can also see the sea of clouds forming a white earth in the distant low, with mountains and undulating mountains on top of it, and there are also endless flat and open fields.

But the serpent in front of him continued to spread upwards along the stone pillar, as if it would not stop until it reached the zenith.

Magellan knew very well that this was still extremely far from the top of the tower, and even passed a height of one ten-thousandth.

For the first time, he began to wonder if he would be able to reach his goal.

Magellan's will may be tougher than that of the gods, but it is impossible for mortals to act in a place where there is no air.

But he's not ready to give up yet.

Suddenly, the head of a giant serpent appeared in front of Magellan's eyes.

It is an abstract relief, typical of the Esyad style, in which the serpent does not grow its mouth as in most carvings, but quietly closes its mouth.

And in the part of the serpent's eye, there is a dark hole.

Magellan saw hope.

He didn't pick up his speed, climbed up as before, and entered the hole.

The warm fresh air rushed to his face, and Magellan, who was about to suffocate, breathed greedily, and then raised his head to look around.

It was a small place, with no roof visible in the dark, and a circular staircase on all sides.

Magellan felt hopeless.

Even without the troubles of the thin air, the remaining heights were hopelessly long, and the thought of giving up was so clear that it was hard to resist when I had just been rested.

Then he stepped up the first steps.

"Give it up. ”

A voice suddenly rang out.

Magellan looked around, and there was no one in the dark.

He began to continue upwards.

"Give it up, the long distance you've traveled is only one-ten-thousandth the height of this tower. ”

"Did you know that a great philosopher once said that the right thing to do is," Magellan didn't know why, and suddenly a powerful force surged from the bottom of his heart, which even made him feel like a little joke, "study hard and make progress every day." ”

"Have you never thought about how small you are?"

The darkness before Magellan's eyes vanished.

It was as if he had been torn out of his body, flying backwards in a golden light.

In the endless field of vision, the tower was a clear silver line, and with Magellan's rapid retreat, the end of this long thin line finally came into view.

It was in the midst of endless darkness, where the earth looked like a sphere, and Magellan, the poor mortal, had disappeared from the darkness.

"This is the tower you're going to climb, it's too late to give up, after all, it's going to take you at least thirty years to get to the top, it's too late. ”

Magellan laughed.

The illusion dissipated, and he returned to the dark tower.

"I was ready to give up, but now forget it, thirty years is not that long. ”

Then the voice was gone.

Magellan began to climb.

It's another desperate stretch of the road, though without the cold and suffocation.

No one knows better than Magellan that this tower does have a hopeless height.

The illusion was real.

This made his steps extra heavy.

But unexpectedly, soon he came out of the darkness.

What appeared before Magellan's eyes was an open rotunda, crowned by square wooden columns inscribed with runi script, crowned with vaults of gold, on which the gods of Esyad were carved in relief.

Magellan turned his face to look at the darkness at the edge of the hall, where countless stars twinkled.

"You've seen it. ”

With a terrifying thunderclap, a typical Esyad warrior appeared in front of Magellan, armed with a one-handed hammer, full of strength, not too tall, but extremely strong.

"This is the top of the tower?"

"Yes. ”

Magellan looked at the warrior in front of him and was convinced that he was a god.

"I'm here to ask for Odin's help," countless thoughts flashed through Magellan's mind like lightning, he was sure that the previous clue was wrong, Thor should not have been here, "The mortal world is about to be destroyed, we need allies." ”

"I know. ”

The god of thunder, the most powerful warrior among the gods of Esyad, Thor came to Magellan and nodded at him.

"All the people who came here were in search of Odin, but they had to pass the test. ”

Magellan looked at the warrior in front of him and nodded, he was not worried about the so-called test.

"Let's get started. ”

Thor laughed.

The thunder god's laughter was like a thunderbolt, and he nodded at Magellan, "Come with me." ”

The warrior turned and walked towards the edge of the hall until he stood at the edge of the Endless Void, but Thor didn't stop, he stepped straight into the darkness.

Just when Magellan thought he was going to fall, the god stepped on the void and took the next step.

He did not fall.

But Magellan was convinced that there was nothing under Saul's feet, and that he had not used divine powers or magic.

Such a trick could not fool Magellan, and if Thor had used magic, it would not have been possible to escape the blindfold.

Magellan lifted his hand and touched the blindfold on his eyes, and then followed the god into the void.

Nor did he fall.

"Then we can go a little faster. ”

Thor turned to look at Magellan and began to pick up his pace.

The god walked up the invisible circular staircase, rounding the entire circle to the top of the hall.

It was a saucer-shaped building on top of the Endless Tower, and the hall that Magellan had just seen was only a small part of the bottom, and now, he was standing in front of the main gate with the gods.

Thor walked straight through the door of terror.

By all accounts, the gate was sinister in every way, carved into the gaping jaws of the hungry wolf Fenrir, with its massive fangs lining the left and right, and darkness inside.

Magellan followed the god into the hungry wolf's mouth and stood in front of its throat.

Here, Saul stopped and turned to face Magellan.

"This gate is the test that Odin has prepared for you, a soul-destroying death match, and your opponent is me. ”

Magellan nodded: "Let's get started." ”

"Nope. ”

Thor shook his head to stop Magellan.

"There is no point in testing courage and wisdom here, so don't rush to make a decision without knowing what the test is about. ”
