Chapter Seventy-Three: The City of Splendour
As they climbed over a steep rock face, on a gentle hillside, the ruins of a city came into view. Pen ~ fun ~ pavilion www.biquge.info
With the exception of the alpacas, all members of the team let out an exclamation.
It was a city built on a hill, with the outermost walls at the foot of the hillside, and the stone buildings stretched down the hillside to the top of the hill until it disappeared into a cloud of mist.
It was a magnificent city, with a vast area, and all kinds of tall buildings in the city, which looked magnificent and exquisite.
On the left and right sides of the hillside are upright cliffs, and the city is surrounded on all sides by abysses, and the boulders at the bottom of the valley can be seen in the distance, like grains of dust.
"Where is this?"
The most powerful civilization ever had ever been on this mountain range was the Incas, and the ruins of a city of this magnitude could not have been made by anyone else, and Magellan hoped to get some useful clues from his guide, because the strength of the young eagles in the glass cover had increased - that meant that the eagle's nest was not far away.
"I've never heard of ......" the guide's answer disappointed Magellan, his face was full of shock, obviously seeing the city for the first time, "no one ever comes here, the roads of the empire often pass through cliffs and valleys, but still haven't passed here, it is impossible for anyone to build a city here......"
There was confusion in the guide's tone, everything in front of him was reality, and someone had indeed built a city in this desperate situation, and it was a long time ago.
"I'll go to the front and have a look. ”
The eaglet's reaction could not escape the eagleman's keen perception, and Wen couldn't wait to enter the city, but was stopped by Magellan.
"There's turbulence ahead. ”
There is very little turbulence in the high mountains, as the slopes block the high winds and smooth the airflow.
Wen looked up at the city and saw that there was indeed turbulence.
It wasn't hot, and despite the stinging heat of the sun, the air was cool, and in the midst of such weather, the eagle man's keen eyes still saw the ripples in the air, which was undoubtedly an invisible current, fast, and therefore very dangerous.
"Why is there turbulence here?"
"I don't know. ”
Magellan shook his head and led the way towards the city.
This section of the hill was longer than anyone had expected, and when they approached the walls, they realized that the ruins of this section were so tall that the collapsed half of the gate towered over the hillside like a wounded and dying giant.
"The ruins of a city of this magnitude are nothing short of a miracle. ”
Magellan bypassed the rubble that blocked the doorway and entered the city gates.
It was a miserable sight, and the gates were supposed to be neatly tall buildings, the boulders had been finely cut and carved into magnificent and intricate structures, but now the only thing left in the world was the tattered ruins.
Each building is delicately decorated with patterns, with the occasional large block of rock in the collapsed rubble, and the surface is simply but aesthetically pleasing, with the recurring patterns of clouds inside, which seem to be the most commonly used motifs.
"It's dangerous here. ”
The eaglemen followed Magellan around the city gates, and when they saw the ruins, their first reaction was to frown and retreat.
"How?"
"Here...... There is turbulence everywhere. ”
Magellan began to hear soft voices.
It seemed to come from an infinitely distant place, mixed with the sharpest whistling and the lowest roar, seemingly chaotic, but it seemed to have a unique rhythm, almost inaudible.
"Wind roar?"
Magellan had only heard of such a naturally occurring spectacle in some parts of the world, but he had never seen it.
"Not only," Wen's face wore a threatening look on his face, "It's a very complicated labyrinth, maybe you'll be able to get through it safely...... But most of the eagle people are more fierce than lucky. ”
Magellan nodded, and glanced up at the sun: "Find an intact building, let's set up camp first, and then I'll go find a water source." ”
"No......" Hawkman had a hesitant look on his face, he knew it was something that had to be done, "It's too dangerous here......"
"You're not going to turn away anyway, are you?" Magellan laughed, "I have a reason why I have to find the Eagle's Nest." ”
The guide was a little unsure, but the Incas' sense of honor made him determined not to turn back until he had completed his mission, so when the eagle man hesitated, he followed Magellan with the herd of alpacas, and walked around the intricate pile of rubbles into the labyrinth.
It is a splendid city with a huge area and beautiful buildings, and it was once inhabited by countless inhabitants and flourished.
But now, as the guide drove the alpacas through the ruins and rocks, the camel stopped indifferently and gnawed on the weeds that grew in the cracks in the rocks.
Magellan soon found a tall building, a temple or auditorium, but it took him a long time to get there.
The wreckage of the building forms an intricate labyrinth in which the dwarf herd of alpacas could not climb over the upright stone walls, so they had to take the most tortuous route through the collapsed ruins.
Once again, Magellan was convinced that this was a city of great glory, a city that was in ruins and had a functioning sewer system, something that most cities under the rule of science could not do until now.
When they finally arrived at the building, the alpacas happily poured into the main hall, avoiding the powerful sunlight of the mountain, and asked the guide for food with a nonchalant expression. The Hawkmen were still melancholy, tormented by the excitement and anticipation of reaching the finish line and the danger ahead.
Magellan left a mess behind and climbed the tall building alone.
Truly in the middle of the city, he finally saw the ruins in their entirety.
Built on a hill and occupying the upper part of a hillside, the city is undoubtedly a metropolis with an irregular fan of walls and cliffs on both sides, with matching streets and dense houses.
But under an unknown force, the city collapsed and was reduced to ruins. The mighty force was concentrated in two places, like the marks left by the wielding of a weapon by a huge god, and two terrifying rifts on the hillside, which were two abysses that cut it off on the path that led to the white clouds at the top of the slope.
Magellan wasn't sure if the power that destroyed the city was the same as the force that caused the rupture was the same, and the dangerous air turbulence in the city, it definitely wasn't something that came out of nowhere.
"Anyway, I know how to go. ”
Magellan shook his head to himself and descended the stone staircase back into the building.
