Chapter 70: Marrakech
Marrakech is located in the western part of North Africa, not far to the southeast, and is home to the Atlas Mountains, the most important mountain range in North Africa.
The mountain range is a giant that separates the relatively rich North African coast from the barren Sahara Desert, serving as a watershed for rain and drought.
That being said, in reality, even Marrakech, located on the western side of the Atlas Mountains and by the sea, does not receive much rainfall and can be called a semi-arid region.
To the southeast of the city is the Pentis River, which crosses the Atlas Mountains, which is a relatively safe passage through the Atlas Mountains than over the mountains.
To the north of Marrakech, the Tansift River, two rivers that come together to bring abundant water to this arid land, making it a famous oasis in north-central Africa.
"Marrakech has been the most important city in Northwest Africa since ancient times. "To this day, many people call Morocco the 'Kingdom of Marrakech' β in fact, Marrakech is also known as the 'Moroccan City,' from which Morocco takes its name." β
Pan Long also looked at the city below, it was still the sunniest time of the day, and Marrakech happened to be a sunny day, under the bright sun, the walls of large red clay buildings were connected, showing a brilliant and vigorous vitality.
"Red is the color of blood and the color of life. Practitioners of the art of the Invisible Technique believe that the ancient Berbers pursued the mysteries of the Invisible Art through asceticism, and that most of them followed the path of blood, with the 'Appearance of the Cup' and the 'Appearance of the Heart' as the main direction of cultivation. And this ancient capital city is the embodiment of their faith and culture. β
Pan Long looked at the continuous red wall with some surprise, and couldn't help but ask, "Could it be that this wall is mixed with blood?"
Natalia smiled: "How is that possible! As far as I know, the walls of Marrakech are made of pure red clay. It's just that...... For the formless arts, it doesn't have to be blood to be 'blood'. Symbolism is sometimes no worse than the real thing. β
"A lot of cultists don't think so. Douglas spoke, "They always think that physical objects are better than symbols, and they resolutely do not use red paint when they can use blood." And nervously think that human blood is better than animal blood...... Obviously, in terms of the vigor of vitality, unless they are formless cultivators, the vitality of the vast majority of people is far less vigorous than that of cattle and horses!"
He probably accumulated a lot of grumbling, and continued to complain: "If they want vigorous blood so much, why don't they just use their own blood?" but every time I propose this to them, they are probably angry and shout, 'Are you fooling me?' and so on...... It's ridiculous! Don't they think they're stupid enough? Even the great Si Chen can't make these fools even more stupid!"
Pan Long interrupted his complaint: "Now it's the place, do you know where Clifton and his men live?"
"You know, they opened a spice shop called 'Worship of the Sun' in Gemafna Square, selling special spices made with the help of invisible magic. It is said that the business is good and he makes a lot of money. As he spoke, he frowned, looking a little disgusted, "Trust me, you wouldn't want to know how those spices were made. β
Pan Long sighed: "I've never been to this city, and I don't know where the square you are talking about. β
"Jemaffna Square is easy to find, it has one of the most famous buildings in Marrakech nearby, the Tower of Light. Natalia said and looked down for a moment, then stretched out her hand and pointed in one direction, "Look, that should be." β
Pan Long looked in the direction she pointed, and sure enough, he saw a towering tower towering among the trees, and not far away was a large square, with many messy tents in the square, which looked very messy.
"That spice shop is in a tent somewhere?" he asked.
"I think it's on the edge of the square β those tents don't look like they're making a lot of money. "It's so far away that we have to land on the ground and walk there to see clearly." β
Pan Long nodded, and with a wave of his hand, a gust of wind blew, and dust flew up.
Covered by the dust, the three had landed on the edge of the square, a little away from the nearby crowd.
That's where Douglas comes inβthe veteran detective has never been to Marrakech, but he knows everything about North Africa. The outfits he chose for everyone looked no different from the locals in the square.
Of course, if a professional detective were to look at it, he could still tell at a glance that these three people were completely different from the others in the square.
...... They seem too confident and too composed.
This kind of calmness comes from self-confidence from the heart. Only the kind of person who fully believes that "I can do it" can embody this kind of composure that is not impatient, even if a mountain collapses in front of him, he will not panic.
Douglas took two quick steps, grabbed a skinny young man who seemed idle, and asked in French with a distinctly North African accent: "I'm looking for a spice shop called 'Worship of the Sun'." Do you know where it is?"
The young man was caught by him for some reason, very unhappy, and was about to have a seizure, but was glared at by his eagle-like eyes, and suddenly his heart felt empty, as if he was being questioned by religious inspectors whether his faith was pious, and even his legs were a little weak for a while.
The Inspector of Religion has the right to behead heretics directly!
The Inquisition in Europe lost its power nearly a hundred years ago, and even recently the Inquisition in Rome was renamed the Most Holy Order, which was responsible for dealing with blasphemy within the Holy See, as well as investigating and dealing with supernatural eventsβand of course, better known as the war of words they fought with Darwin's followers over the years.
The power of the Inquisition has been largely lost, and things like the "Natalia Primordial Creation Experiment" would have been burned at the stake a hundred years ago, whether it would have been smoking, like the hapless Frenchman Jean Duck, or being roasted for two hours, like the hapless Spaniard Miguel Servete, who had to be burned to ashes and poured into water to receive "fire and water purification......
But no longer so, the Inquisition is now only capable of fighting a war of words, and the countries of Europe, even Spain, which is the most radical on religious issues, can no longer tolerate the aberration of the power of the trial, let alone the existence of a power other than the state that can convict people.
Hey, it's been almost forty years since the Papal States were destroyed by the Kingdom of Italy! More people now visit Garibaldi's tomb and memorial than the Vatican......
In Europe today, the power of religion is declining, but in the Arab region the power of religion is still strong.
If an ordinary civilian like this young man is judged a heretic by the inspector, he will be whipped at the least, or he will really be beheaded on the spot and his head hung up for public display!
At the thought of this, the young man could not help but tremble, and he could not even walk.
Fortunately, at least his brain is not bad, and he can still show Pan Long and them.
After more than ten minutes, they came to the door of a shop on the edge of the square.
The shop looked unremarkable, not even a decent sign. But when you get closer, you can smell a faint fragrance coming from inside.
I can't tell what the fragrance is, but just smelling it makes people feel refreshed, and then a sense of heat and dryness arises spontaneously.
Pan Long, Natalia, and Douglas all frowned slightly, and each used means to expel the heat in their hearts, and quickly regained their calm. But the thin young man naturally didn't have this kind of ability, his face suddenly turned a little red, and a suspicious bulge appeared on his pants.
Douglas sent his hand away and said coldly, "You can go." β
With these words, the power of "Casting Appearance" penetrated into the young man's body, and the hot and stern breath instantly destroyed the throbbing brought by the fragrance, and then nourished his spirit even more - this did not make him healthy and long-lived, but at least it allowed him to maintain a better routine and living habits for a period of time in the future.
If he can keep it all the time, he will probably be able to live a long and healthy life.
This is the positive embodiment of "Casting Phase": fire is a harsh winter, but it brings temperature.
