Chapter 22: Strife
"Gruger is dead. β
After drinking a cup of black tea, Dimmenhogg, who is over fifty years old, even if his face is old, the scar that crosses his eyebrows still has a harsh taste.
"What do you think?"
Under his seat stood a young man with features similar to his.
"Whoever dares to bully our brotherhood. I'll just have one sentence forever. The young man pressed the hilt of the sword at his waist, the corners of his unruly mouth were slightly upturned, and the tips of the tiger teeth that were slightly exposed outside his lips were sharp, like his words, sharp as a knife, "Tooth for tooth, blood for blood!"
"You're still young, don't be too extreme in your work. β
Dimmenhogg beckoned, and the maid beside him, with her hands hanging down to her waist, approached and crouched down with her head bowed, and after listening to his words, she walked out of the room with small steps.
"Have you ever wondered who killed Grujger?"
"No matter who it is, I won't let him go. β
"No, Richard, we are not kings, and even if we were, he could not kill all his subjects who opposed him. Not to mention us little people. β
The old man picked up the teacup, even if there was no tea in it, he still licked the tea leaves at the bottom of the cup, chewing lightly in his mouth, his own bitterness and sweetness intertwined on the tip of his tongue: "I told you, we can't blindly make enemies." We're in Darune, and we can't be kings yet. Calm down, think about where the Brotherhood enemies have been lately, who do you think will do it, and how do we give them a little color. β
"Black stork. β
Richard's eyes moved, he took two steps, and said, "Or the Nice Lila of the Giant Bear." β
"The Giant Bear will never interfere with the water of the well with us, we do our business, and he will accept his filial piety, it will not be him. β
Dimenhogg knocked on the armrest twice, and there was a thoughtful look in his eyes: "Black stork, I've heard of this Kherson gang. They were a union of slave hunters, unlike our brotherhood. β
"If we are wolves, the black stork is a lion. The old man took a bulging purse from under the table and threw it at Richard's feet, the rope at the mouth of the bag loosening a little, revealing a little golden light inside.
"It is true that the black stork cannot be allowed to take root in Darune. Take the money and go to our old friend and ask him to find out the cause of Gruj's death. Your uncle, I'll go and talk to him, and I'll be sending a team from the sheriff's office to take care of this. You just take care of it for me, remember, if you can't beat it, just run, I'm old, useless, you're still young, and the days to come will be very long, there's no need to put your life into it. β
Then the door of the room opened again, and the maid bent over Richard, and after saluting, handed him a piece of paper with some words written on it.
"What is this?" Richard glanced at the contents of the paper, puzzled, "Leave the Gang Application?" Gruger...... What the hell, father, when did our brothers have this thing?"
"Yes, the Leave Petition. Now that the name is signed, you give the gadget that you didn't have before to Jabu of the Chamber of Commerce, and Gruger borrowed a sum of money from them before he died. My son, there is no need for us to be responsible for this debt, give them this piece of paper, gag the Chamber of Commerce, and then go to Rabin to get a sum of money, and you will personally hand it over to Grujger's daughter. β
"How much should I get?" Richard flipped through the paper in his hand twice, puzzled, "Gruger's daughter?" I haven't seen it, I don't want to go. β
"You have to go. β
Dimenhogg watched as the maid picked up the kettle and poured water into the empty teacup: "If you still want to take over my shift." β
"I don't want to go. Richard picked up the money bag at his feet and picked out a ducat. The thin, round gold coin has a shiny surface, and on the obverse is a bust of the current emperor wearing a crown, holding a scepter headed by an eagle in his left hand, and holding a jeweled orb in his right hand, he looks at the emperor and utters a dull voice from his nose: "I am the eldest son of the leader of the brotherhood, the son of your father, just like the king's eldest son inherits the throne, no one can object." β
"No, Richard. The king did not have the surname Serchik before. The old man took a new cup of black tea and stared at the few tea leaves wafting on the surface of the tea, "The former Darune has nothing to do with the Brotherhood. You have to be careful, watch out for some guys in the shadows, they're always watching us, I'm old...... If you can't accept it, I think, I'll let Rabin take over as leader. β
"Why, father, why should we give away our private property?" Richard turned his head in surprise, and looked at Dimmenhogg on the stage in a daze, his eyes flashing with distrust, and he repeatedly glanced at the expressionless, wrinkled old face, wanting to see a negative expression.
But no. Richard was sure that his father, he was really serious about what he had just said.
"Just kidding. Who else in the Brotherhood can succeed me but me?"
"Isn't that bitch!"
Richard, who realized that his heir status was shaking, immediately turned red, he was swayed by emotions, and he didn't care who was on the stage, he asked viciously with anger, "I know which bitch must have bewitched you, father, I am your eldest son, not Rabin, let alone anyone else, he is just a younger brother of your mistress, only me, my body, is flowing with your blood!"
"Or is it Grujger's daughter?'s new mistress?" he gripped the hilt of his sword and nodded to himself, "yes, yes." I should have listened to my mother, I should have killed all these bitches so that they would not fan your ears less. β
"That's enough, stop guessing. β
"It is because you carry my blood that I want to protect you. β
Grimenhogg closed his eyes, took a sip of his tea, and waved his hand, as those who knew him well knew that this was the characteristic gesture of the leader of the Brotherhood.
He didn't welcome his son any longer.
"Go ahead, and decide for yourself how much to bring. But if you don't want to do it, I'll let Rabin take over. β
"Are you pushing me?"
Richard went mad with anger, he grabbed his hair and paced back and forth in the center of the study: "Father, are you doing this for this? Okay, I'll do it." β
He pushed away the maid who wanted to come forward to help him get dressed, and yelled at her, "Get out of here, slut." Then he kicked the door open with a heavy kick, deliberately making his steps loud and loud.
In the distance, Richard's age-specific, neutral voice entered the room through the hallway: "I'm going to kill Rabin and show my father which of us is qualified to inherit the Brotherhood." β
"Alas......"
Glancing at the door that had been kicked to the corner, Dimenhogg sighed as he propped his forehead on, his fingers pressed against the table, where there was an up-to-date intelligence document: "Kapole, what the hell are you trying to do?"
The maid straightened out the hem of her clothes that was a little messy after falling to the ground, stood up, and said softly to Dimenhogg, "Master, do you need me to keep an eye on the young master?"
"No, he'll be calm. β
"And he couldn't beat Rabin. Dimenhogg was very open about this, "You go and search for the latest news about Kapole in detail." I suspect he's related to some bounty hunter, Grujger, a strange death. β
