Chapter Fifty-Eight: The Beginning of a City
The cool breeze is just one step away, but the inside and outside of the barrier are worlds apart.
Behind him is the yellow sand sky, scorching and hot, but in front of him is green shade and a gentle breeze.
The forest was thick in front of Will. It's just that this jungle is neither hot and humid like tropical rainforests, nor as scattered and distinct as cold temperate deciduous forests.
The first thing Will felt here was the silence, and then it was the comfortable temperature that was very different from the land of the Wild Moon.
What is it like to walk outdoors for an hour in the heat of forty or fifty degrees, and then enter an air-conditioned room, what is it like for Will to be now!
Elves are good at natural magic and live in symbiosis with the jungle.
Walking through the forest, you can occasionally see wandering animals and frolicking spirits, and the two get along happily without the slightest disharmony.
"The Elder is in the treehouse ahead. ”
Naya wasn't big, and after only a quarter of an hour's walk, Will was already at the heart of the stronghold.
The Tree of Life!
It was a giant tree that was five meters tall. The tree is thick and strong, and it is difficult for more than a dozen people to hug each other. The roots are rough and tightly rooted in the soil.
The elves built a circle of treehouses along the Tree of Life, leading up to the lush canopy. Will followed the five druids up the steps along the treepath into the last treehouse under the canopy.
Inside, a big man with a brownish-gray beard was fiddling with the herbs on the ground.
"Elder Cob, this human wants to see you!"
Cober nodded and said, "I already know about things outside the barrier. Human, what is your purpose?"
"Coming for friendship!" Will said, nodding slightly.
"Humans who can use thunder magic are very rare even in the Nine Gods period, and it is even more remarkable to be able to kill a giant sandworm with a single blow. However, even if you save Naya from a crisis, it will still not be enough to constitute that so-called friendship!"
Cobb didn't look up from beginning to end. The period of the nine gods he spoke of was the era of the first nine divine magicians of mankind, and that was the era of the rise of mankind.
"If you don't have anything else to say, please leave!"
Will was about to say something when an elven girl walked inside the treehouse.
The girl was dressed in a strong suit, wearing a small fur hat on her head, pale blonde hair overflowing slightly, and long pointed ears were submerged in the hair, looming. The girl was tall and tall, carrying a longbow on her back, and she was beautiful and heroic.
"Elder Cob, the Great Elder wants to see this human!"
"What?"
Cober seemed a little surprised, and asked, "Arya, did the Great Elder say why?"
Arya shook her head and said, "The Great Elder didn't say anything, just asked us to bring this human to his treehouse. ”
The two ends of the treehouse were connected, and Will followed a cadre of elves to the treehouse at the top of the canopy, where the Great Elder was.
It was an old man in white with gray hair, sitting cross-legged on a wooden cushion, his face wrinkled as many as tree bark, but his pale blue eyes were extremely bright.
"Fate brought you here, and now, we finally meet!"
Unlike the smile on the white-bearded old man's face, Will looked confused.
As soon as the white-bearded elder opened his mouth, he had a divine tone, and Will didn't even know what he wanted to say.
The Great Elder didn't seem to have any intention of solving Will's confusion, and continued: "When the elves were in their heyday, the three world trees covered the sky and the sun, covering the entire continent, and the prosperity of the elves was envied even by the gods. In a later battle, both elves and orcs were defeated. The orcs retreated to the desolate lands north of Mount Olympus, while we elves scattered and faded. The gods are not to be trusted, but unfortunately, we did not understand this until much later. But the rise of humanity was also absolutely unexpected by the gods......."
Will listened to it with a little bit of a desire to sleep, and it felt like listening to a professor on the history of magic from a stage at the Nibelungen Academy.
The old man babbled about the past and glory of the elves, summed up the lessons of history and the pain of war, denounced the vulgarity and barbarism of the orcs, and accused the hypocrisy and perfidy of the gods.
The old man summed up for about two or three hours, but Will was stunned and couldn't find a word that had anything to do with him.
Finally, the old man raised his head, and there was a look of reluctance on his face: "I am about to die, and the future of the elves will become even more turbulent and dangerous. So, from now on, you are the master of Naya!"
With that, the old man lifted his thin finger, which was only a bone, and pointed it at Will.
"Hah!"
Will quietly hit Hatcher, who had just been wandering around the world to cheer up, only to find that everyone in the room was looking at him.
Am I missing something?
"Great Elder, how can you hand over Naya to a human?" asked Cobber in a loud voice, his words not refuting, but full of doubts.
This white-bearded elder has a very high prestige among the elves, and what he says is not usually disobeyed by the elves.
"He's not human!"
Hey, how can you scold people, old man!
"He's... Nidhogg!"
Niederhogg Will wondered, was this old man talking about himself?
"But....!"
"The tree of life has begun to wither, but there is nothing we can do. If I wait until I die, with Naya's current strength, it will not be enough to resist the invasion of those sandmen. Perhaps you don't need to wait until then, the barrier of the Tree of Life has already begun to fade into weariness. If this continues, sooner or later, our homeland will be exposed to this stormy sand. In the end, the only thing that awaits the elves is death. And he, Nidhogg, will lead Naya out of this difficult situation. Even, lead the elves to restore their former glory. ”
Speaking of this, the Great Elder coughed incessantly, and when he calmed his mind, he pointed at Will and said, "From now on, Naya is yours, and the five thousand six hundred and thirty-two elves in Naya are your servants!"
A pale golden sigil rose from the Great Elder's arm, slowly floated in the air, headed towards Will, and finally landed on his arm, then vanished.
Will could see that the vanishing mark was painted with the image of a tree.
"The affiliation of the stronghold 'Naya' has been reached!"
"Get down on your knees!" the Great Elder said to a group of elves in the room.
The elves looked at each other, including Cober, and finally fell to their knees in front of Will.
"The elves never ask for help, nor do they bow to any power, not even the gods. But what's the matter, succumb to fate. ”
After the Great Elder finished speaking, he closed his eyes, and there was still a smile on his face.
