Chapter 5: The Undercurrent (I)
The fire had burned out by this time, and had turned into pitch-black charcoal, which was blown away by the cold wind of the morning.
Filin slowly opened his eyes, spending the night outside of Willow for the first time. Instead of the familiar ceiling, he was greeted by a lush canopy, which immediately lifted his spirits.
He stood up and looked around, everyone was still asleep, only Evan was nowhere to be seen.
What an elusive guy...... Filin thought to himself.
"Hmm, what is this?" Something was shining under a tree not far away.
Filming held the Shadow Blade in his right hand, hunched over, tiptoeing towards the unknown object.
"Hey, Filin, what the hell are you doing?" Rodrith's loud voice immediately woke everyone up.
Loras and Ellie stood up in a daze, while the apprentice magician yawned lazily with his hands behind his head.
"Shh~ Whisper, there's a strange object here. ”
They took a closer look: it was a snowball-like fluffy mass, only the size of a fist, and the glitter looked like the guy's eyes.
Fei Lin didn't dare to make a rash move, but picked up a stone from the ground and threw it tentatively.
I saw that the snowball suddenly moved, and slowly changed its shape, and from its round body stretched out its short limbs, which looked like a rabbit, and its ears were equally small and short, but it looked even more cute.
The little thing was looking at the big guys in front of him with a frightened expression, trembling and curling into a ball. Sure enough, you should listen to your master, you shouldn't have sneaked out, the little thing really regrets it now.
"How can this thing move?" Rodrith almost laughed, "You're still a fat guy, aren't you hungry?" he swallowed, making a friendly suggestion.
"That's not good, what if it's someone's pet?" Fei Lin hesitated, but his stomach rang uncooperatively.
"Anyway, let's cut it open before deciding how to eat it. Loras drew his sword as he spoke, he had already fainted from hunger after yesterday's toss, and he couldn't care so much at this moment.
"Brother don't, its coat color is so clean, it shouldn't be wild, look at how cute it is~" Ellie hurriedly squatted down, and the rabbit threw herself into Ellie's arms as if she had seen a savior, and her mouth made a coquettish chirping sound.
"Ellie, even if it's not wild, but in this remote forest, if you use it to satisfy your hunger in a hurry, I think the original owner will understand. Rodrith wiped the saliva from the corner of his mouth, not hiding the greed in his eyes.
"In this case, it is my pet from now on, you are not allowed to eat it!Little guy, just call you chirp~" Seeing Ellie's unexpected insistence, Rodrith couldn't help but be stunned for a second.
Chirp jumped on her shoulders and scratched the girl's ears with her tiny paws, and Ellie giggled in amusement.
"Rodlis, since Ellie said so, let's find something else. Fei Lin said and reluctantly glanced at the fat on the rabbit's body, quite regretful.
"It's really boring to be partial to your little lover...... I'm too hungry to walk!" Rodrith began to grumble again.
Seeing this, Loras had no choice but to insert the long sword back into the scabbard with a helpless expression.
The top priority is to find something to eat first, otherwise before they can reach the imperial capital, the group will starve to death in this forest.
"Lord Evan hasn't come back yet...... Don't you have to wait for him?" asked Ellie, looking at her companion as she prepared to leave, teasing the little rabbit lying on her shoulder with her fingers, feeling a little uneasy.
"Hmph, then we're just roasting this guy while we're waiting for him. Rodrith laughed wickedly, and Ellie was so frightened that she quickly held the rabbit to her chest.
The girl followed closely behind Loras, silent.
After walking for a while, the surrounding trees began to thin out, and it seemed that they had reached the edge of the forest, which meant that they had stepped out of the area where Willow belonged.
The province of Parker is sparsely populated and remote, and the empire has historically obtained this vast land near the sea without using a single soldier and only using peaceful surrender.
Because it was so peaceful, people didn't care who the lord was, and just wanted to do everything possible to avoid war.
Loras grew up in such an environment, and even though he had stepped into the door of the Third Order, his willpower was still very lacking. Otherwise, there will be no embarrassing situation of physical exhaustion when encountering a sword wolf attack.
Since that incident, Loras has been searching for answers in her mind, and the scene of Filin and Rodrith desperately trying to save Ellie is still vivid.
He kept blaming himself for this, and if he had made the right judgment at the time, no one would have been hurt.
It was noon, the sun was high in the sky, and the harsh sunlight was scorching the soil beneath our feet.
Fei Lin and his party were struggling to walk on the open plain, and the magic apprentice, who had always been over-energetic, was also depressed at the moment, such an aimless journey was simply maddening.
"Hey, keep your spirits up, or you're going to be left behind. Loras reminded back, his tone equally tired.
Rodrith raised his head and looked ahead, and suddenly his eyes lit up - "There is a river, look!"
The crowd looked in the direction that Rodrith was pointing, and about two hundred meters away from them, a clear river was flowing slowly from west to east.
Under the reflection of the sun, it is like a silver ribbon separating the two green fields. The apprentice immediately took off his tattered robes and rushed to the river with a shout of joy.
"Ah, it's so comfortable!" Fei Lin picked up a cool breath, washed away the stains on his face, and sighed with satisfaction.
Loras immediately took off his coat and soft leather boots, and plunged into the river, washing away the gloom of the two days.
Ellie was a girl after all, and she couldn't go crazy like Loras and the others.
She was crouching on the shore at the moment, soaking her hair in the water, carefully washing the dirt from it.
The girl sighed sadly when she saw her haggard face in the reflection.
Rodrith was busy filling all the water bags, and he didn't want to endure the pain of burning his throat anymore.
He unscrewed one of the stoppers, took a big sip, and looked at the scenery on the other side with a pleasant expression.
It's just past noon, the sun is getting more and more dazzling, and the temperature around me is rising a lot.
"Let's go to the other side and rest in the shade for a while. Loras had put on his coat, and both Filmin and Ellie had cleaned up and walked over to Rodrith to pick up the hydration bag.
"Wait, don't you think there's anything wrong?" said Rodrith suddenly.
"I think you're stupid for being hungry, aren't you?" Filin gave him an annoyed look, and stepped into the river, with Loras following behind with Ellie on her back.
"What the hell is wrong?" said Rodrith, still crouching in place, muttering to himself as he watched the three of them drift away.
