Chapter 326: The Shadows (Part II)
Garhan's piercing eyes swept over the crowd.
"There," he said, pointing to a dragon man at a human hiding near the bar. His guards sprang into action, grabbing the one-eyed human soldier, who looked at them in fear with drunken eyes.
"Take him out and go to the back," Garhan ordered.
The dragons paid no attention to the drunken captain's protests and pleas, and certainly ignored the cursing and rolling eyes of the crowd.
They dragged the captives to the back of the tent, and Gahan followed them with all his might.
It took only a few minutes for the skilled dragons to make their subjects sober enough to speak—the man's screams were so terrible that many of the people in the bar suddenly couldn't drink the wine in front of them, but he was able to answer Gahan's question in the end.
"Do you remember when you arrested an officer this afternoon and accused him of desertion?"
The captain remembered that many officers had been questioned today...... He's a busy man...... Everyone looks pretty much the same. Garhan gestured to the dragonmen, and they immediately and efficiently did what they had to do.
The captain screamed in pain. Yes, yes! He remembered, but there wasn't just one officer. There are actually two.
"Two?" said Gahan's eyes sparkled. "Describe another officer. ”
"A tall guy, very strong. Underneath the uniform are muscles. There are also some prisoners ......"
"Prisoner!" Garhan's tongue retracted with excitement. "Describe them!"
The captain is more than happy to help. "A human woman, with curly red hair and boobs with—"
"Hurry up," Garhan growled. His paws began to tremble. He motioned with his eyes to the two dragonmen to hold on a little tighter.
The captain sobbed and quickly described the other two, his words seemingly coming out of his own accord.
"A Kande," Garhan repeated, feeling more and more excited. "Go on, an old man with a white beard—" He paused for a moment, feeling a little confused. How could they possibly let that stupid fellow participate in such an important, life-or-death mission.
If it wasn't him, who would it be? Is it someone else they met along the way?
"Describe the old man's appearance a little more clearly," Gahan ordered.
The captain searched very hard in his alcohol-soaked head, numb from pain, the old man...... White beard......
"Is there a hunchback?"
No...... Very tall and with broad shoulders...... Blue eyes. The eyes were strange, and the captain was about to faint in pain. Gahan grabbed the man by the neck and held it hard.
"How's that eye?"
The captain looked in fear at the dragonman in front of him who was about to strangle him to death. He barely managed to squeeze out a few words.
"Young...... Too young!" said Garhan excitedly. Now he knows! "Where are they?"
The captain struggled to utter a word, and Gahan immediately threw him to the ground with a thud.
The whirlwind has begun to stir. Garhan felt that he had begun to fly in the wind. As he and his companions left the tent, there was only one thought in his head that kept beating.
The three of them ran quickly to the dungeon under the palace.
The Eternal Man!!The Eternal Man...... Eternal man!
"Wade!"
"It hurts...... Don't bother me......"
"I know, Wade. I'm sorry, but you've got to wake up. Please, Wade!"
The urgency and fear in that voice pierced the pain-numbed hearts of the Kanders.
Some of them were jumping up and down to wake him up, but the other part was telling him to continue to sleep, which was uncomfortable but much better than waking up and facing the pain, "Wade... Wade ...... "The hand patted his cheek.
The voice sounded terrified, but it was deliberately self-sufficient. The Kandes suddenly understood that he had no choice.
He must wake up. And the part of his mind that keeps jumping up and down is still a reminder that you might be missing something interesting!
"Thank God!" Lena said as she saw Wade staring at her with wide eyes. "What do you think?"
"It sucks," Wade said inarticulately, trying to sit up. Sure enough, just as he had expected, pain suddenly popped up from somewhere in his body and jumped on him. He wailed and hugged his head.
"I know...... I'm sorry," Lena stroked his hair with a gentle hand again.
"I know you mean well, Lena," said Findley grumblingly, "but can you stop? It felt like a dwarf was hitting me on the head with a skirt. ”
Lena quickly withdrew her hand. The Kander people struggle to see their surroundings clearly with one eye.
The other eye was almost completely swollen. "Where are we?"
"In the dungeon beneath the temple," Lena whispered. Wade sat beside her, and could clearly feel her shivering from fear and coldness. He looked around and understood why Lena was afraid. The sight in front of him scared him too. He remembered a long time ago, when he didn't know what fear was. He should be very excited by now. After all, he's in a place he's never been before, and maybe there's a lot to explore around for him to see.
But Wade knew that there was only death, death and suffering. He's seen too much death, he's seen too much pain. Hubble came to his mind, Stone came to mind, and Lolana came to mind. Wade's heart has changed a little.
He couldn't be like the rest of the Kandes anymore. Through grief, he understood fear.
Not for the sake of fear, but for the sake of others. He secretly decided that he would rather sacrifice himself than see his dear die again.
You've chosen the dark path, but you have the courage to walk it, says Aven.
Does he have? Wade wasn't sure. He sighed and covered his face with his hands.
"No, Wade!" Lena shook him. "Don't do that! We need you to raise Wade's head in pain. "I'm fine," he said, stunned. "What about Calamon and Belclery?"
"Over there," Lena said, gesturing to the cell on the other side. "Before they could find someone to decide what to do with us, the guards decided to keep us all together. Calamon's acting skills are fantastic," she added proudly, looking at the strong man with admiration.
The latter was cowering in a corner, as far away from his "prisoner" as possible.
Then Lena gave a look of horror as she pulled Vedra closer, "But I'm worried about Belcleral—I think he's crazy!"
Wade immediately began to look at Beclaire. The man sat on the foul-smelling floor, his eyes glazed and his head bowed as if listening to something.
The fake beard that Lena had helped him with goat-hair, now looked a little baggy.
It didn't take much effort to make it fall, Wade looked around alertly, and immediately looked out the door.
This dungeon is made up of many tunnels dug out of the rocks. From a guardhouse in the middle, there are countless walkways. The guardhouse was a small, circular room with a staircase leading directly to the place above the temple.
Inside the guardhouse, a bloated goblin sits at a tattered table lit by torches, eating a loaf of bread.
Take the liquid in the bottle and rinse it down.
He has a bunch of keys hanging from a nail on his head, indicating that he is a jailer here.
He didn't seem to pay any attention to the group, maybe he couldn't see them in the dim light, Wade thought.
Because the whole cell was about a hundred paces away from him, and the lighting in the vicinity was terrible.
Wade scurried to the cell door and looked down the aisle in the opposite direction.
He wetted a finger and stuck it out. That direction is north, he speculated.
Farther and bigger, inside a cell, there were many drunken dragonmen and goblins.
At the end of the walkway were two large iron doors, slightly opened.
Wade listened intently, and felt as if he could hear the voices behind the door: conversations, wailings.
It was another area of the dungeon, Wade speculated based on past experience. Perhaps the jailer over there deliberately left a small crack in the iron door so that he could keep an eye on all the movement here.
'You're right, Lena,' Wade whispered.
"We're in some kind of detention cell, maybe waiting for orders from above.
Lena nodded. Calamon's acting, if not completely disorienting the guards, at least made them have to think twice before doing anything rude.
"I'm going to talk to Berclery," Wade said.
"Don't, Wade," Lena looked at the man uneasily, "I don't think—"
But Wade didn't listen to her. He glanced back at the jailer, and Wade completely ignored Lena's warnings and crept up on the man.
I want to help him put the fake beard back in place. He crawled right up to him, ready to stretch out his little hand to straighten his beard.
At this time, the Eternal Man suddenly jumped up with a loud roar and pounced on the Kander.
Wade was taken aback and screamed and stepped back. But Berclercle didn't see him at all.
He yelled out of nowhere, and passed Wade, slamming into the iron door with incredible force.
Calamon stood up now, as did the goblin outside the door.
Calamon tried to pretend to be annoyed that his sleep had been disturbed, glaring harshly at Wade on the floor.
"What did you do to him?" the big man whispered to him from the corner of his mouth.
The current situation can be described as extremely chaotic, they are bent on rescuing Lolana, but they are suffering from the eyes of the dragoons everywhere.
The Eternal Ones had previously revealed to them the news of the aftermath of the darkness, and while bits and pieces could not lead to any reliable conclusions, they were better than nothing.
Beclaire wasn't what they thought he was—a timid coward, but his suffering made him feel the deep malice of the whole world.
Calamon couldn't bear it anymore, and it wasn't his style to cringe like this.
