Chapter 181: Evil
Scarlet Moon took his injured hand and prayed to the goddess. The river breeze shot an arrow at the slug, and the arrow hit it in the neck, but it did no harm, but attracted its attention.
The half-elf saw Scarlet Moon's hand grasping the ground, but it still felt only pain. After some time, the pain gradually subsided and the arm felt again. He smiled at Scarlet Moon, admiring her medical powers, and looked up again to see what had happened.
The rest of the group desperately attacked the giant slug, hoping to distract it from Robert, but their attack was like hitting a rubber wall with no focus.
Robert staggered to his feet. The hand was healed, but the sword became a scrapped piece of metal. With no weapons other than the longbow on his body, he stepped back and pulled Scarlet Moon away, dodging the giant slugs that rushed into the room.
Rodrith ran to Aven's side, "Old man, it's time to cast a fireball," he gasped.
"Really?" said Evan with a happy look, "Okay! How?"
"You forgot?" said Rodris, pulling the old man past the slug's scorching saliva again.
"I remember...... Let me think. Evan frowned intently. "Can't you?"
"I can't do it yet, old man, I can't cast this spell yet!" Rodrith closed his eyes and began to concentrate on the technique he knew.
"Stand back!" called out of here, Robert. He used all his strength to protect Wade and Lorana, and reached out to take out his bow and arrows.
"It's still going to follow us!" ston shouted, piercing his sword through its body again. But his and Calamon's actions only angered the monster even more.
Suddenly, Rodlis raised his hands, "Carris." Kalan, Tubanis—Ka!"
He shouted, and flaming darts shot out of his hands, hitting the monster in the forehead.
The slug looked up silently, obviously in pain, but still determined to carry out its hunt. Suddenly, it senses prey rushing forward in front of it, and Robert is trying to protect Lorana and Scarlet Moon with all his might.
The pain of the wound and the smell of blood made it rush forward at an incredible speed. Robert's arrow was ricocheted off by its hard skin, and the monster continued to charge at him with its bloody jaws wide open.
The half-elf threw away his useless bow and staggered back, stepping up the stairs in front of the throne of Gis-Kanan.
"Get out of the back!" he shouted, trying to distract the slugs before the two found cover. He reached out and scratched blindly, hoping to touch a stone. Or anything that could be lost, and then he grabbed the hilt of a sword.
Robert was taken aback and almost shook off his sword. The metal was so cold that it made him frostbite.
The blade shone in the light of the Rodlis Mazzis Staff. But there is no time for distractions.
Robert stabbed his sword at the rushing slug.
"Run!" Robert shouted as he grabbed Lorana's hand and pushed her forward, intending to break off her alone while the others fled.
But the slug's appetite suddenly vanished, and it turned around miserably and retreated back to its nest, its wounds oozing clear, viscous fluid.
Everyone crowded into the corridor and stopped to catch their breath for a while. Rodrith leaned on his brother and gasped. Dannis glanced back.
"Where's Wade?" he asked, frustrated. Turning around to re-enter the hall, he almost stepped on the Kande.
"I've brought the scabbard for you. Wade picked up the scabbard and said, "You can put the sword in." ”
"Let's go back to the two ways. Robert said firmly, rejecting the other people's questions.
At the fork in the road, everyone was sitting on a dusty floor. Robert asked the elven woman, "What are you doing here?" Lorana, what happened to Quellingnos?"
"It's fine. Lorana replied, still shivering from the encounter with the slug.
"I ...... I...... I'm just here!"
"Then you give me back at once!" Gilthenas shouted angrily, grabbing Lorana as she wrenched his hand.
"I don't want to go back!" she said anxiously. "I'm going to go with you, Robert, and the others. ”
"You're going too far! Robert erupted. "We're not going on a picnic, it's not fun, you see, we almost lost our lives!"
"Tancyrus, I understand. Lorana pleaded tremblingly. "Didn't you say that one day I would have to risk my life for my beliefs? I'm the one who follows you. ”
"You might be killed—" Gilsenas began.
"But I didn't!" shouted Lorana. "I've been trained as a warrior since I was a child, every elven woman has it, and we've fought alongside men to save our homeland. ”
"That's not formal training at all—" Robert said angrily.
"But I followed you, didn't I?" said Lolana aggressively, then looked at Stone.
"Pretty good skills, aren't you?" she asked the knight.
"Definitely. He admitted.
"But, that doesn't mean—"
Rodrith interrupted them, "We're running out of time. The mage said hoarsely. "I don't want to stay in this damp place any longer if it wasn't necessary. He was almost gasping for breath to speak.
The girl seemed to have made up her mind. We couldn't spare the manpower to accompany her back, and in the same way, we didn't worry about her going back by herself.
She might be captured and leak our plans. We had to take her away. ”
Robert glared at the mage, hating his cold, correct logic from the bottom of his heart. The half-elf stood up and lifted Lorana up as well.
He almost began to hate her, and he understood why. Just because of her appearance, it will make the already difficult task even more difficult.
"You're on your own. He whispered to her as the others began to pack their things. "I can't stay by your side to protect you, and neither can Gilsenas, you're like a spoiled child, and I told you you better grow up quickly.
Now, if you're any more immature, not only will you kill yourself, but we might even be dragged into the water!"
"I'm sorry, Tancellus. Lolana said avoiding his angry gaze. "But I don't want to lose you again, I love you. ”
Her lips pursed and she said softly, "I'll make you proud." ”
Robert turned and walked away. Catching a glimpse of Calamon's smile and hearing Lena's snickering, he blushed, ignored them, and walked straight to Stone and Gilsenas.
"It seems that we will have to choose to take the right-hand side of the passage after all, regardless of whether Rodris's hunch is right or not. ”
He fastened his new belt and scabbard, noticing that Rodrith's eyes had been on the weapon.
"What's the matter?" he asked, exasperated.
"There's magic on this sword. Rodrith said gently, coughing non-stop. "How did you get it?"
Robert was stunned for a moment. He stared at the blade as if it would turn into a snake. He frowned, trying to remember. "I approached the corpse of the Elven King to find something to throw at the slug, and then, in an instant, the sword fell into my hands.
It was pulled out of the scabbard by someone, and—" Robert paused, swallowing hard.
"How?" asked Rodris, his eyes flashing with longing. "It was he who gave me the sword. Robert said softly. "I remembered that his hand had touched me. He was the one who drew the sword from its sheath. ”
"Who was he?" asked Gilsenas, "and no one was near that side. ”
"It's Keith—Kanan......"
She knew what spell he was going to cast, so she tried to disturb him! The memories of fighting the Dark Elves in the Tower of the Masters resurfaced in her mind. He tried to forget the terrible war that had ruined his body and almost destroyed his will, but he felt himself spiraling out of control.
He forgot the spell!!The door began to shake. The Dark Elves are coming!
Maybe it was all just an illusion, but the more they walked into the hallway, the more they felt that their surroundings were getting colder.
Needless to say, the dwarves knew that this was extremely unusual in a heated cave. They walked to another fork in the road, but no one wanted to go left, and everyone was afraid to return to the hall and meet the injured slug.
"The elves almost killed us by slugs. "I wonder what awaits us here?"
No one answered. Now everyone can feel the evil aura that Rodlis had warned about earlier. Their pace slowed down because there were so many people around them that they had a reason to keep going.
Lolana was so frightened that she could barely move, and she struggled to walk against the wall. She hoped that Robert would be able to comfort her and protect her at this moment, just as he had faced a fantasy enemy when he was a child, but he and her brother were at the front of the line.
Everyone has their own problems to deal with. At this moment, Lolana decided to die rather than ask them for help. She suddenly realized that what Fang had just said to make Robert proud was serious. She pushed herself off the wall, gritted her teeth and moved on.
The road suddenly came to an end. A large hole had been punched through the stone wall, and the bottom was full of broken stones and pebbles.
A vast aura of evil flowed outward from the dark cavern, caressing everyone's skin like invisible fingers.
Everyone stopped, and even the undaunted Kander were reluctant to rush forward.
"I'm not afraid," Wade whispered to Hubble, "but I'd rather go somewhere else." ”
The silence grew heavy. Everyone clearly heard their own heartbeat and the sound of other people's breathing. The mage's staff began to tremble slightly as his hand began to tremble, and the light flickered on and off.
"We can't stay here forever. Iban said hoarsely. "Let the elf go in first, who told him to bring us here!"
"I will!" replied Gireenas, "but I need light." ”
"No one but me can touch the Staff of Marzis. Rodrith said in a hoarse voice, then reluctantly added, "I'll go with you." ”
"Little Ray—" Calamon was about to speak, but his brother looked at him coldly.
"I'll go along. The big man muttered to himself.
"No!" said Robert. "You stay here to protect the others, and the three of you, Girenas, Rodlis, and I. ”
Gilsenas entered the cave, Rodrith following behind, and the half-elf carefully supporting the mage. The light illuminates a narrow space, but there is no end in sight.
On either side are rows of large stone doors, with metal pivots nailed into the stone walls. Rodrith raised his cane and lit up the hall, where everyone felt the aura of evil concentrating.
"What's carved on the door?" said Robert Qiannan. The staff's glow shone on the carvings, making them look even more eerie.
Girsenas stared at the carving stunned, "Royal coat of arms!" he whispered.
"What does that mean?" Robert asked, and the elves' fear seemed to be infectious.
"This is the tomb of the royal guard. Gireenas whispered. "It is said that they held on to their posts even after they died. ”
"These legends are true!" Rodrith grabbed Robert's arm. Robert heard the sound of heavy stone doors opening and closing, and the rusty door pivots turning. He turned his head and saw that all the stone doors were open!
The temperature plummeted throughout the hallway, and Robert felt his fingers freeze. Behind the door, a figure began to move.
"Royal Guards, those footprints are what they left behind," said Rodrith near a breakdown. "It's human, but it's not human. We have no escape!" he clung to Robert even tighter.
"They are not like the spirit creatures of the Dark Forest, they have only one thought - to destroy the invaders who dare to desecrate the king's sleep!"
"We're going to try!" Robert pushed away the mage's clenched hand. He staggered back, only to find that the entrance had been blocked by two men.
"Go back!" said Robert, taken aback. "Run! Who? Aven! No, you old madman! We need to run! These Necromantic Guards—"
"Oh! Calm down. "Old man Qiannandao. "Young people just love to be nervous. He turned to assist another person to walk in. It was Crimson Moon, and her hair reflected a silvery glow.
"It's okay, Robert. She whispered. "Look!" she was pulled away by the wind, and the amulet she was wearing began to glow blue.
"Evan says they'll let us through, Robert, just see this amulet. Before he could finish his sentence, the amulet began to glow!"
"No!" Robert tried to force her to retreat, but Aven's thin fingers poked him in the shoulder.
"You're a good man, half-elf Robert. The old mage said slowly, "But you're too worried. Take it easy, and let's take these guards back to eternal sleep.
Bring the others over, okay?"
Robert was speechless in surprise, and he couldn't help but take a step back as Scarlet Moon, Aven, and River Wind walked over. In front of Robert, they slowly walked through two large rows of stone gates, and when they passed, all movement behind the doors stopped.
Even at this distance, Robert could clearly feel that the evil aura was slowly dissipating.
