Chapter 170: Accident
The convoy headed south from Willow and along Gateway Avenue. The goblins and dragons complained about the pain of marching in the sun;
But when they entered the section of the avenue surrounded by the canyon, it was obvious that they were light-hearted by the shadow of the canyon.
Although the prisoners felt a chill in the canyon, they also felt more relaxed, because they no longer needed to witness the ravaged homes.
In the evening they left the avenue, surrounded by a canyon, and arrived at Gatwe. Prisoners crowded around the railings, eager to see the famous commercial bazaar. But now there are only two charred, melted stone walls left in the town that can be used as monuments to the pomp and circumstance.
There is no trace of any creature. The prisoners sat down disappointed.
When re-entering the wilderness, the dragons made it clear that they preferred to travel at night to escape the scorching sun. So before dawn the convoy stopped for a short time. It is almost impossible to have a good night's sleep in a prison car that is constantly jolting, falling into potholes, and jumping.
The prisoners were so hungry and thirsty that those who had barely swallowed the food that the people had thrown in them quickly vomited again. Prisoners were only allowed to drink a small glass of water two or three times a day.
Scarlet Moon was always by the side of the injured blacksmith. Although Telos. Ionfield was out of the clutches of death, but he was still very weak. He began to have a high fever, and during his meals, he kept talking to himself about the fall of Verlo.
Telos mentions that some drakes turn into pools of acid when they die, burning the flesh of their victims, and that the bones of their bodies explode when they die, destroying everything within the blast radius. Robert listened carefully to the blacksmith's account until he could take it no longer.
For the first time, Robert felt the hopelessness and helplessness of the whole situation. How could they hope that they could fight these monsters that could spit lethal weapons and whose magic was only inferior to the strongest ** division in the world? How could they fight against these dragons who could hurt people again even after their dead corpses?
All we have is, Robert thought desperately, the platinum disc of Mishakai.
What was the use? He had repeatedly observed the platinum plates on the way from Shaksharos to Willow, but he could only read a fraction of what was written on them. Although Scarlet Moon could read the medical techniques on it, she couldn't do anything else.
"A wise man who leads the people will understand everything," she said with firm faith. "My mission is to find him. ”
Robert wished he had the same strength of faith as her, and after passing through so many war-torn towns, he began to suspect that any leader could resist the invincible King of the Mamminna.
These doubts only add to Robert's other concerns.
Since the special medicine has been consumed, Rodrith's condition is not much better than that of Telos, and Scarlet Moon now has two patients to take care of at the same time. Luckily, Lena helped take care of her. Lena's father used to be a magician, and now Lena's efforts surprise even those who know magic.
In fact, it was Lena's father who inspired Rodrith to become a mage. Rhodelis's father takes his twin sons and his daughter Ella to a local summer festival, where the children watch the great Veran perform amazing illusions.
Eight-year-old Calamon quickly became bored, and he and his sister Ella hurried to see the sword show he was interested in. Rodlis was weaker than ordinary at the time and did not like such intense exercise. He spent the whole day watching the illusionist Veran perform.
When the family left, Rodlis repeated every trick without any mistake, startling everyone. The next day, his father took him to study under the greatest of mages.
Lena has always admired Rodrith and is fascinated by his journey to the legendary Tower of the Magores. She took care of Rodlis out of respect and compassion for the weak.
Another reason she took care of him (which she only wanted to admit in private) was because her kindness earned the smile and approval of his handsome twin brother.
Robert didn't know which thing he was more worried about, whether it was Rodrith's deteriorating health, or his older, experienced warrior brother and younger age (despite rumors to the contrary, Robert still believed she was)
The love affair between an inexperienced and easily frustrated waitress.
He had other questions at hand. Stone was caught in the frustration that Robert feared he would never be able to let go of because he had been taken captive and transported around the wilderness like a beast to be slaughtered.
Stone sat all day, looking out at the sky beyond the bars, or worse, sometimes he fell into a long slumber that he couldn't easily wake up.
In addition to all the troubles above, under the influence of the elf sitting in the corner, Robert also has to wrestle with his inner troubles. Whenever he looked at Gilsenas, he couldn't help but think of Wellington.
As the crowd drew closer to his homeland, the long-buried past crept into their hearts like cold undead creatures in the dark forest.
Gireenas, a childhood friend, the two are even closer than friends, like their own brothers.
The two grew up under the same roof, were close in age, and were once good playmates for endless fighting. When Gilsenas' little sister is old enough, the boys let this cute little blonde girl join.
One of the greatest pleasures of the three of them is to make fun of the eldest brother, Bo Xiutu: he must be forced to bear the sorrows and responsibilities of his people at a young age, so he has forged a strong and serious personality.
Gilsenas and Loranabo are both sons of the Sun Chanter. The Chant was the leader of the elves of Quelingnasti, a position that the Monk inherited after his father's death.
Many people in the Elven Kingdom wondered how the Singer would take in this bastard born to an indescribable brother-in-law. A few months after giving birth to the child, she was indescribably defeated by human warriors.
But the singer, who had a strong sense of responsibility, did not hesitate to take him in. It was only in later days, after his daughter's love affair with the mongrel grew, that he regretted his decision a little. This situation also puzzled Robert.
With half human blood in his body, the young man's mind grew at a rate that the elven girl couldn't understand. Robert also saw that the union of the two would bring misfortune to the family he loved so much.
He was also puzzled by the question that would haunt him for the rest of his life: the elves and human blood within his body were constantly fighting. At the age of eighty (roughly twenty years for a human being), Robert left Quellingnos.
The singer is not sorry for Robert's departure. He tried not to let the young half-elf know what was going on in his heart, but both of them knew each other well.
Gilthenas was not so calculating, and he and Robert spoke ill of Lolana for the sake of Lorana. It took many years for the damage caused by these words to fade away. Robert had always wondered if he was relieved.
Apparently Girsenas did not.
For both of them, the journey has been extraordinarily long. Robert tried to talk to him, but immediately noticed that Gulsenas had changed. This young elven aristocrat had always been hospitable, hedonistic, and magnificent.
He did not envy his brother for inheriting those powers and responsibilities. Gilsenus was a well-read scholar and a man who loved to talk about magic, but he never wanted to take magic as seriously as Rodrith.
He is a skilled warrior, but like all elves, he does not like to fight. He was devoted to his family, especially to his sister. But he was just sitting dumbfounded, which didn't look like an elf's behavior.
The only time he was active was when Calamon began plotting his escape. Gireenas sharply warned him not to be delusional, because that would ruin everything.
When the crowd asked him to explain, the elf kept his mouth shut, just repeating "a very unfavorable situation".
At sunrise on the third day, the dragonmen wanted to rest well after a long journey. Everyone had another sleepless night, and it seemed that it would only be another cold and unhappy day. But the prison cart suddenly stopped.
Robert looked up, puzzled by the sudden turn of events. The other prisoners also looked out of the car. They saw an old man, dressed in a robe that might have once been very white, with a shabby pointed hat on his head.
He seems to be talking to a tree.
"I say, did you hear that?" the old man waved a cane at the tree.
"I told you to get out of the way, I mean it! I just sat down on that rock. He pointed to a boulder behind him, "I'm enjoying the warmth of the sun, but you dare to come over and block my rays!
The tree didn't answer—and certainly didn't move.
"I can't stand your rudeness any longer!" the old man began to hit the trunk with his cane. "If I don't get out of the way, I'll be—I'm going to—"
"Which guy locked up this crazy old man!" said Thomas, riding back from the front of the line.
"Take your hands away!" the old man screamed as the dragonman grabbed him. He beat them weakly with his crutches until even the crutches were taken away. "Arrest that tree!"
He insisted, "Illegally blocking the sun! That's what he's charged with!"
The dragonman rudely threw him into the prisoner's cart where the group was. The old man accidentally stepped on his robe and fell to the ground.
"Are you alright, old man?" asked the river breeze with concern as he helped the old man sit up.
Crimson Moon left Telos' side, "Yes, old sir," she said softly. "Are you hurt? I'm following—"
"Mishakai's priest!" he said, looking at the amulet around her neck. "It's funny, oh my God. He looked at her in surprise. "You don't look like a three-hundred-year-old woman!"
Scarlet Moon blinked, unsure of what to do. "How do you know? How do you recognize—I'm not more than three hundred years old—"
She was getting more and more confused.
"Of course not, my dear, I'm sorry. The old man patted her hand. "It is impolite to mention a lady's age in public. Please forgive me, not next time. Just keep it our little secret. He lowered his voice. Wade and Lena began to giggle.
The old man looked around. "It's kind of you willing to stop and give me a ride, it's a bit of a long way to Quellingnos. ”
"We're not going to Chalinos," said Gilsenas at once. "We are prisoners who are going to be sent to the Paktakas slave labor camp. ”
"Oh?" the old man looked around curiously. "Is there another group coming at noon? I swear this is the group!"
"What do you call you, old sir?" asked Lena.
"My name?" the old man frowned hesitantly. "Aven? That's right, my name is Aven. ”
"Aven!" Wade repeated as the cart swayed forward. "How could anyone have a name like that!"
"No?" the old man asked thoughtfully. "It's a shame. I love the name. "I think it's a good name. Lena glared at Wade and said. The Kander retreated into his corner, his eyes fixed on the package the old man was carrying on his shoulder.
Suddenly Rodrith began to cough violently, and everyone turned to look at him. His cough was getting worse. He looked exhausted and seemed to be in great pain, his skin was frighteningly hot, but Crimson Moon couldn't help, and the evil disease that burned a mage's life in his body was not something that a mere priest could cure.
Calamon knelt beside his brother, struggling to wipe the blood from the corners of his mouth.
"He'll have to drink the herbs he usually drinks!" Calamon looked up anxiously.
"I've never seen him so serious. If they don't want to help," the big man roared, "I'll knock their heads off!
"I'll bring it up in the evening when we stop for a rest," Robert agreed, though he already knew the answer to Shomast.
"Borrowed," said the old man. "Can I do this?" said Evan as he sat down beside Rodleys. He put his hand on the mage's head and said a few words harshly. Calamon listened intently, only to hear "Festan ......"
And "This is not the time to ......" This is certainly not the medical prayer that Scarlet Moon has tried, but the big man sees his younger brother have a surprising reaction! Rodrith's eyes kept blinking and opened, and he looked at the old man in fear, his thin hand gripping Evan's wrist tightly.
For a moment Rodrith seemed to recognize the old man, and then Evan shook his hand in front of his eyes. The look of fear on the mage's face faded and was replaced by a look of bewilderment.
"Hey!" Evan looked at him. "My name is, uh- Aven. He looked sternly at the Kande, warning him not to laugh out loud.
"Are you...... Magician!" Rodrith whispered, his cough suddenly stopped.
"yes, I guess I am. ”
"I'm a mage, too!" said Rodrith, struggling to sit up.
"No kidding!" Evan looked pleased. "It's a small world, especially in Candela. ”
Evan and Rodrith smiled at each other, in such a turbulent era, the meeting of the two magicians must have brought some unexpected changes.
