Chapter 37: Lear's Money-Making Plan
Nothing in the world can be done without money.
Lear now really understands what that means.
The first person he met when he returned to the inn was the guy in the front hall, the little man of Sarabuto was waiting at the door of the room with a smile and asked if they wanted to continue staying, because a team of mercenaries had just come in looking for a place to stay, and if Lear couldn't pay for a month's stay in advance, then the inn would transfer their room to those people, even if Lear had chosen a relatively cheap inn outside Sarabutoβ The cheaper ones were too dirty for him to bear, and he still had to pay five gold coins for them.
In order to prevent Mrak and the others from sleeping on the streets, Lear had no choice but to pay for it, and although he and Adela could live in the Wizards' Guild for free, the warriors could not enjoy this benefit.
Then Mrak came back and brought him the news that the warriors had found a job to escort supplies for the Chamber of Commerce, but they had to pay a deposit of ten gold coins for it, and that Mrak's sword was no longer usable and needed to be replaced, and that Haq needed a decent suit of armor - the young barbarian had been shirtless since the fighting on the steppes, though he himself found it more comfortable, and always attracted the admiring eyes of the women who walked through the streets.
Haag shouted loudly that the silver shield she had encountered on the way back would be more suitable for Guina, but the female warrior's lips opened and closed slightly, and finally said nothing.
Why is there no such thing as turning stones into gold in the Western magical world?
Lear buried his head deep between his knees, letting his hands crumple his head into a bird's nest.
No! We must save money and reduce expenditure! Lear instantly felt that he had made a wise decision.
"Starting tomorrow, your meal will be reduced to two flatbreads and a bowl of mutton soup per meal!"
He pointed to the young savage and loudly announced his decision.
"Why!"
The barbarian cried out angrily, and a raging fire instantly rose in his eyes, and it was evident that the unwarranted cutting of his food made him feel unacceptable.
"You're eating too much!"
Lear called.
"You promised to be full, and there was meat!"
Haag didn't budge.
"Well, four flatbreads and a bowl of mutton soup. β
Lear flinched.
"Ten!"
The barbarians continued to hold out.
"Eight! And there's no more meat or soup!"
The final bottom line of the young magician.
"Deal!"
From this point of view, the lack of wisdom and guidance of the barbarians is really debatable.
Lear was at least relieved that the young savage was so good at eating that he ate almost as much as the other five combined, and even then Haag was always shouting that he didn't have enough to eat.
So now it's time to find a way to open source.
"How much does it cost to replace the sword and silver shield?"
Lear looked at his scout, hoping to get a number that would give him comfort.
"A gold coin is enough for a normal sword, but that silver shield may need a little more......"
Mrak's voice grew quieter and quieter under Lear's forced gaze, almost inaudible.
"Oh, I know, ten gold coins, the silver shield on the Beast God is really worth so much, it is really suitable for Guina!"
The barbarian, fearing that the world would not be chaotic, paid no attention to the angry gaze that the female warrior threw at him.
"I'll give you twenty-two gold coins, you go and change it to a better long sword, and take over the task of the Chamber of Commerce. β
Lear reluctantly held his forehead with one hand to make himself comfortable, but his heart was bleeding from the expression on his face as he counted the gold coins to Mrak.
"Lear..."
Guina called out the young mage's name, but the latter waved her hand and motioned for her not to say anything.
"Adra, you go with me to the Mage Guild tomorrow to see if there are any suitable tasks, Valenk, you can join Haag and them, a little magic support is also a little more secure. That's it, I'm tired, leave me alone for a while. β
After saying this, Lear fell on his back on the wooden bed behind him and closed his eyes, looking like he was unloved, decadent.
When everyone was gone, Lear rolled out of bed, sat up, pulled out his badly malnourished purse, and began counting gold coins one by one.
However, with each occasion, the twitch at the corner of his mouth would become heavier.
............
Early the next morning, Lear and Adela followed the rising sun into the halls of the Sarabuto Mage Guild.
Coincidentally, they meet Mr. Smile Elson again.
"Hello, let's see if there are any suitable tasks, my fellow mage and I need some experience. β
As a noble, elegant, and maverick magician, Lear certainly can't say that he's going bankrupt.
"Okay, do you have any special requirements, such as the nature of the task, the level, or the reward?"
Elson asked kindly with his trademark smile.
"The more money, the better!"
Accidentally exposed it.
It's very embarrassing.
Fortunately, Elson didn't care about this, he asked Lear to wait where he was, and then quickly brought a thick, parchment notebook with elaborate packaging.
"It's all here, you can take your time to choose, just tell me when you're done, and remind me that high-paying tasks are all dangerous, and they're all at the back of the mission book. β
It's still an Elson smile.
"Thank you. β
Then Lear found a table in the hall with Adra, and carefully studied the task book, and he didn't think to ask why Elson, a third-level magician, appeared at the counter in the reception hall, knowing that they were very busy.
............
"How about this? Destroy a group of goggles entrenched in an abandoned mine west of Sarabuto, and pay two hundred gold coins. β
Lear asked as he looked at his fellow female mage, his eyes burning.
"No, we don't have archers in our team, and there is no way to guarantee strong ranged support with only two of our first-level mages, and the warriors will face too much danger, don't you know that Goge can attack from a distance by summoning hellfire?
Adela said she was unequivocally opposed to the mission.
"Okay, forget it, look at this again, expel the orc bandits who occupy the Cellissey Valley, and pay three hundred gold coins, plus a hundred guild contribution points. β
Lear looked at the mage expectantly again.
"As I said, we don't have ranged equipment, and the Orc Warriors are a much more advanced class than Gog!"
Adela looked at her as an idiot, and she couldn't stand this leader who was carried away by interests.
"Oh oh oh how about this, kill the Cyclops wandering the Dimonyath Grassland, and bring his Cyclops back to the Magic Guild for a thousand gold coins and three hundred contribution points!"
Lear's eyes were glowing.
β......β
Damn!
In the end, under the disdainful gaze of the mage, Lear was forced to choose a relatively simple and less dangerous mission, for a group of harpies entrenched in the hills outside of a small town called Boerland, three hundred miles from Sarabuto, who often raided passing caravans and captured the town's young men back to their lair, and usually found a scrawny corpse at the foot of the mountain after a few days.
The reward is one hundred and eighty gold coins and ten contribution points.
Lear is going to destroy them on behalf of the moon.
