Chapter 037: (New Beginning)
Suddenly, the monk spoke again. "He belongs to us Rhodoks, and he has the birthmark of a descendant of the goddess of the forest, Soraka, on his chest. Today is not his time to die!"
Edward snatched a life from the Rhodok monks. The monks were like a different person, and they hugged Edward one by one, and it was obvious that they were happy.
The monks asked Edward about his life, and the monk at the head listened to Edward's statement and became very angry. "Back then, Robert Harongoth, the brute, kidnapped your mother, and now his son is going to put you to death!"
"Young man, you are one of our Rhodocs. The monk invited in a sincere tone. "In that case, come back to us!"
Edward looked at the old man with great emotion, the old man had golden hair, a brown complexion, large blue eyes that showed kindness, and broad and powerful shoulders.
"My name is Hekarim and I am a goldsmith who makes jewelry for a living. The old man said. "We are not real monks, this is a deserted monastery, and the monks have all been killed or captured by the invading army of Haringos. You can trust us, and we will take care of you. β
"Uncle Hecarim, am I really the descendant of the goddess?" Edward still couldn't believe it was true.
"Young man, the bear's head birthmark on your chest shows this unmistakably. The old man told him. "It is said that the goddess Soraka has two forms, not only a beautiful and noble goddess, but also an angry she-bear, and the offspring of the goddess Soraka are printed with bear heads. β
A thousand years ago, the Rhodoks lived a life of enslavement to a half-human, half-beast alien race. Suddenly, one day, the goddess Soraka appeared from the forest, she taught the Rhodoks how to forge metals and weapons, and helped the Rhodoks expel the ugly aliens who had enslaved them.
The legend of the goddess of the forest is not recorded in ancient books, but the story has been passed down from generation to generation in the Rhodoc region! The bear's head birthmark on Edward's chest may be just a coincidence! If he was really a descendant of the goddess of the forest, why did his mother suffer a tragic tragedy?
"We Rhodoks have a ballad: The offspring of the goddess of danger and the forest are like two bears born on the same day, and the offspring of Soraka were born first. β
The dawn is cold, the dew is clear, and the dew is shining in the sun.
After daybreak, the impostor Rhodok monks left the dilapidated monastery and headed for Marasburg.
Edward followed them on the journey, remaining silent the way. Until it was dark, they stopped to rest.
Brother Hecarim could sense a change in the young man's attitude, and although no one said anything, it seemed that Edward had decided to maintain a good relationship.
Of course, this is not to say that Edward is ready to betray the kingdom of Swadia and his uncle and turn to the Rhodoks, but rather that he has left a way back for himself in consideration of the cruel reality.
The next day, everyone was still in a hurry, and Hecarim wanted to say something, but Edward was always dodgy. The older monk could understand this.
Although on the surface it seems that Edward has an inexplicable connection with the Rhodoks, in Edward's heart, he may feel that his heart has betrayed the kingdom of Swadia to which he is loyal.
Edward's mood should be extremely complicated now, if Brother Hecarim is pressing forward, it will probably backfire, it is better to let Edward think about it. Everyone moved forward in a dreary atmosphere until they saw the house.
It is a small village on the high ground by the road, and when you turn into the trail from the main road and walk through the dense forest, you can see a small hill in front of you. At the foot of the hill is surrounded by a ring of wooden walls, and the houses are built along the mountain, but they look like they are also a bit larger.
When the group approached, they could see that there was a guard tower next to the wooden gate. That is, four wooden stakes, supporting a hut made of wooden planks nailed, on which there were about five or six people at a time.
But Edward looked at it crumbling and suspected that if there were more than three people going up, the tower might be crushed and fall on its own.
The sentry on the watchtower looked at the three of them lazily, without the slightest intention of interrogating, perhaps because of their appearance and the robes they were wearing. At Hecarim's suggestion, Edward had changed into the same robes as them.
Most of the houses in this village are thatched houses with mud walls and grass roofs, and many of them look like they are semi-underground.
The Rhodok dug a deep pit in the ground, built a low wall of earth on top of it, beamed it with the wood they could find, and covered it with thatched mats, and a house was repaired.
Such a house is quite easy to build, does not require too many people, and can greatly save raw materials, and the construction difficulty is also very low. And it's half-buried in the ground, which seems to be more resistant to the cold, making it an excellent choice for the poor.
Of course, such a house is cloudy/cold/wet, and it is not a good choice to live, but it is good to have a roof. Edward thought to himself: I am afraid that it will not be long before this place will be plundered and burned.
There were also some Rhodoks who lived in caves, and Edward saw strange places with fences and holes cut out of the mountain walls, and people cooking outside.
As he passed by the door, he looked inside. Maybe it's because the security is too good, maybe it's because their house has nothing to steal at all, so the door of this house is open.
The family lived in a cave, and they dug a hole themselves, which may have existed in the area. Then the outside was fenced up, and the inside was covered with some thatch, which could barely keep out the wind and rain.
The room is very small, and it is clear at a glance, even if it is covered with some hay, it can probably only accommodate people to sleep. The woman outside was stirring the contents of the pot, and several children next to her were already waiting.
There is still something on the woman's body to hide, which is not bad to describe as unclothed, but looking at her appearance, I am afraid that a lot of parts will be revealed when I walk around. The children, on the other hand, were completely unclothed, and they waited naked.
The children were always chased into the house by the woman, so that it would at least be warmer, but they always slipped out quietly and crouched by the fire and waited until they were driven away again.
The stove looked very similar to those semi-underground houses, with a pit dug in the ground, surrounded by a few stones, and a large clay pot steaming on the fire.
Edward got closer, but smelled a strange smell, as if something was mixed with mud and sweet and sour, and of course there should be something else, but Edward was not interested in finding out.
He glanced at the inside of the clay pot, and there was a large pot of soup, which was relatively viscous, not the kind where water accounted for the majority.
The lumpy objects inside the clay pots kept turning up and sinking.
The woman stirred with the wooden spoon in her hand with a focused expression, her movements were very careful, she did not touch the clay pot, but only moved the wooden spoon at a uniform speed.
From time to time, she looked back to see if the children had run out again, and if they did, she raised a hand menacingly, and the children would giggle and run back.
It was hard to tell if she was worried about the children a little more, or more worried that they would break the pot, but when she lowered her head and stirred, Edward felt that she was more majestic than the king, and it was almost impossible to look at her.
It was not long before the woman brought the pot off the fire, divided its contents into several plates, and watched the children eat them. Some children had a bitter face and wanted to spit things out, but under her stern gaze, they had to eat it.
While watching the children eat, the woman poured water from a bottle into a clay pot and put it on the fire to heat it. When the children had finished eating, she poured out the contents of the clay pot again, this time apparently much clearer.
She calmly ate it allβor rather drank it.
The person next to her couldn't wait to pick up the clay pot she had just put down, threw it into the clay pot with the water she had brought and some things from the plate, and put it on the fire to cook. It looks like they share a stove and clay pots for cooking, and firewood comes with their own.
Edward had already seen that the newcomer had already placed a bundle of firewood beside him, and was carefully adding it to the stove.
Standing on the side of the road, Edward watched all this blankly, did not move for a long time, did not appear as a savior, threw down a money bag and floated away.
Because he knew that there were many more than just such situations, of course he could give them a little money, but how long the money could be kept was a question!
Edward didn't dare to underestimate the ugliness of human nature, and perhaps the one who killed for a little money was the neighbor who could now share the cooking utensils.
In fact, what Edward thinks of is himself, and he doesn't know what the fate of Lu Dao will be tomorrow, so he still tries to do what he can do!
"Don't look, young man," said Hekarim, looking at the castle at the top of the hill. "I'll take you to the lord here, Count Richson!"
Edward was no stranger to the name. A few months earlier, it had been he who had led his knights to capture the valiant and warlike Count Rhodoc in the waters of the Umeya River.
Edward thought to himself: "Maybe he will remember my face, and then I will be his prisoner, and then the Earl of Rhodoc will send someone to demand a ransom from my uncle?"
