Chapter 34: The Age of Nuclear Heat
Iroh didn't care about Noele's adventures along the way, in fact, what attracted him was what Noele had found in the ruins.
For the past four years, Noele, as the second in line to the Tokamaks, has enjoyed treatment second only to Iro.
"Nuclear power...... If it weren't for what I've seen and heard in the past few years, I'm afraid I would never have believed that there is such a wonderful energy. β
Finding that somewhat unfamiliar word in his memory, Iroh sighed softly.
"Lord Lord actually already owns it," the Silver Dragon Mage smiled humbly, "I'm just helping you get a better grasp of it." β
This time, Iroh didn't speak, but stared at the black, opaque metal scales that covered his entire body.
If four years ago, he had some doubts that he might be a mutant black dragon, then today Iroh has completely abandoned this conjecture - he should be a dragon that has never appeared in this world!
Not to mention the myriad strands of gold embedded in the radial protrusion in the center of the scale armor, which are thinner than a human hair, are the mysterious ability to wither all things, and the ability to make a dragon die with just physical contact...... It all shows that Iroh is extraordinary.
What's more, the records Noelle found in the ruins seem to confirm this fact to some extent.
Iroh has a hunch that the clues to his true life experience are probably on those records!
In fact, it's not just Iro, Noele is also in a trance.
If it weren't for the strong will that told him that everything was true, then the silver dragon might really think that he was in a pipe dream.
When he first found those records, he didn't think he would be able to go so far away from magic, but four years later, he had gained a stable research environment, and he understood more and more deeply the knowledge hidden in those records, from the previous era.
In the long evolution of the Elohim world since its birth, there have been four epochs before and after: the era of obscurantism, the era of creation, the age of secrecy and the current era of glory.
There were no gods in this world at first, and it was not until the Supreme God came down and created the gods that the Age of Ignorance ended, and the gods led their respective families to usher in the era of wisdom. For this reason, people today regard the founding era as the first era.
In the previous two eras, there were many advanced civilizations in this world, but unfortunately these civilizations were destroyed. Billions of years of natural change have wiped out almost all traces, and only a few pieces of evidence have been preserved.
Noele believed that what he had discovered was the remnants of such a civilization.
Buried deep underground, the site is 1,600 kilometers long from east to west and 1,400 kilometers from north to south.
After a series of tests, Noele believed that it definitely belonged to the previous era, but there is no mention of it in the few surviving documents. What is even more strange is that in the excavation of the city's buildings, there are no temples and palaces, which are not unlike the ancient ruins of the Second Age that are currently being excavated in the world, and it seems that these cities have no rulers at all.
The residential buildings in the ruins confirm this: all the houses are made of bricks and wood, and the scale of the layout is almost the same, as if the gap between the rich and the poor did not appear here, and not a single work of art has been found.
There are also a large number of bones here, some on the streets, and many more in living rooms. Noelle found rows of dead people in a relatively large ruin, some covering their faces with their hands, as if to protect themselves, and as if they had seen something to fear. To be sure, all of them died in a state of suddenness.
There must have been a huge anomalous incident here, what was it?
Volcanic eruptions? However, no remaining craters have been found within a few thousand kilometers of this area.
Sudden outbreaks of epidemics, plagues, but plagues and epidemics of all kinds cannot suddenly destroy a city.
In the end, Noele could only assume that the destruction of the ruins and the death of the people were related to the sudden appearance of high temperatures, as he found traces of high temperature heating in many of his bones.
In addition, many of the collapsed buildings here also have some kind of high temperature on them, and he even found some "glass buildings" caused by the instantaneous high temperature melting the surface of the object and cooling it quickly.
Luckily, there is magic in the Hidden Age, and the deepest part of this ruin is preserved by magically encrypted information.
For Noele, deciphering them is not a very difficult task. It was just the result of the interpretation that surprised him.
One of the messages was of an ancient battle, and although some of the contents had been destroyed, Noele could still make out that the scene of the battle, or one of the weapons recorded in it, was terrifying:
β...... The terrible scorching heat and wind of this weapon shook the earth, the rivers boiled, and the enemy soldiers were burned to death in an instant, like scorched tree trunks...... It has the entire cosmic force, a red-hot pillar of fireworks, whose brightness is like 10,000 suns...... People and animals were burned to death, and food was poisoned......"
It can be seen that the recorder of the message described this weapon with great disgust, and it was capable of killing all the samurai in the golden helmets and armor.
If the samurai knew the power of the weapon, they could throw away all the metal equipment on their bodies, jump into the river, and wash all the things they had touched and washed.
The note explains that this is not unreasonable, as the weapon can cause hair and nails to fall out. All living beings become emaciated and weak as soon as they come into contact with such weapons.
There is more than one such shocking record, and in fact Noelet has found an even more detailed and ominous record.
"The forces of nature seem to have lost their restraints, and the sun is swirling. The earth was scorched by the blazing heat of the weapon, and trembled in the heat. β
"The beast roared and screamed as it was burned, and ran from place to place, trying to avoid this terrible violence. β
"The water is boiling, the beasts are dying, and the enemy is being annihilated. The angry flames caused the trees to fall in rows as if they had been caught in a forest fire. β
The beasts roared, and their hearts were torn apart, and they fell to the ground and died, and their corpses were scattered all over the field. The horses and chariots were burned to the ground, showing a tragic scene after the fire. β
"Thousands of chariots were destroyed, and the sea fell silent. The wind began to blow, and the earth was red and shiny. The corpses that fell to the ground were burned beyond recognition by the terrible heat, mutilated, and inhuman. We have never heard of such a weapon. From the outside, these weapons resemble a huge iron arrow, making people feel as if they are huge messengers sent by death. β
And the scene of its explosion is also mentioned: "There was no smoke at all, flashing shells were fired like a ball of fire, and something like a thick fog suddenly surrounded the army." The entire horizon disappeared into darkness. A whirlwind of misfortune blew, and something like a black cloud roared and rose high into the air with a loud noise, making it seem that even the sun did not exist. β
"The heat of this weapon warms both the earth and the sky. Beasts scorched by flames, running lifeless in fear. β
He then goes on to tell of the thousands of chariots, men and beasts that were burned to ashes on the spot as a result of the terrible explosion of this terrible weapon. All the soldiers who survived the explosion hurried to a nearby river, where they washed their clothes and weapons.
Eventually, at the end of the record, Noele discovered a way to make the weaponβof course, it was too broken to be recognized, but Noele was able to piece together a few words with his knowledge.
To his surprise again, this method seemed to have some connection with alchemy today. He further recognized one of the key substances recorded in it.
Noele had not been able to find this substance, and he even had some doubts that it no longer existed in this era.
When he first told Iroh about the idea, Iroh didn't think about it. As far as he knew, the Hidden Age seemed to be a taboo contracted by the gods, and most of what was left over from that era was sealed away by the gods and their church.
So the substance Noelet mentioned, if it exists, should have been classified as top secret, right?
However, a chance experiment three years ago caused Noelle and Iello to change their minds.
Noele had heard Ieloh speak of his terrifying abilities, which seemed to coincide with some of the accounts in the ruins. So in the name of experimentation, he paid a lot of money to extract certain substances from Iroh's scales.
After using his talent to "deconstruct the secret method" and a series of sophisticated methods to conduct in-depth comparisons, he was shocked to find that this substance was very similar to the material recorded in the ruins in many ways!
The people of that era, called it "uranium".
