Chapter 43: The Devil

A traveling scholar who is committed to perpetuating civilization, an ivy that sees civilization as a moth in the world, a snow elf who has survived independent of the polar forests, a grave keeper whose seals will summon an endless winter, and Noyer who has been fighting against the dictator for many years to oust him......

Collectives are made up of individuals, and no collective in any world will always be monolithic.

Even the armies and teams sent to Corantia by the Earth with strict military discipline and the same long-cherished wishes could not resist this law, and no one could not be unimpressed in the face of the masters of deception and temptation.

The devil from the Nine Prisons has been eyeing this town for years.

Unlike the images in Earth legends, the devil of Gorantia is actually a fairly advanced life form.

They don't need to eat, drink, sleep, and be immortal, forever obey and preach order, and always work with trepidation for promotion......

So the devil is still the embodiment of the ideal employee?

Of course not.

The inner world of the devils can be fully described in one word: ambition. Almost every devil is constantly thinking about how to get promoted—or in some rare cases, how to avoid an unwanted promotion.

The devils believe in order and rules, not because the latter can contribute to the progress of society as a whole, but because they believe that they can benefit themselves from these rules. Each devil aspires to be promoted to a high position, so that they can modify the rules at will to meet their goals. Followers of the other Order-Keeping factions may consider them hypocrites, but to the Devil, this notion can be called perfectly reliable and logical.

Some of the wiser devils keep themselves calm, calculating, and highly logical. As for emotions, in any case, such things tend to be chaotic, while thinking and reasoning are orderly. But their own evil nature often causes the devil to act according to his emotions and not to take into account his long-held egoism.

Devils like to provoke the misfortune and suffering of others, both physical and mental. The devils hate defeat or humiliation, and when the time comes, they take revenge with great hatred and energy. If sufficiently instigated, they will be desperate to take revenge, even if it leads to self-destruction.

Like other beings on the outer planes, the Devil is an abstraction given the appearance of a physical being. While they may appear to be living creatures, with flesh, bones, and internal organs, in fact, the devil is an incredible manifestation of a particular cosmic law. Some demons have an internal structure similar to that of humanoids, but others are completely bizarre, compared to mortals. Due to their unnatural physiology, the Devil can easily ignore the physiological needs necessary for the main material plane creatures to sustain life.

The devil does not die of old age. Most of them are eternal, and in fact, some of the devil's origins can be traced back to a mythical past long before time was defined. Regardless of when they were born, most devils do not show signs of aging. However, some of the most coarse-looking, wrinkled paradigms show significant aging, often due to some kind of curse, supernatural disease, or depletion of divine energy.

The devil who is killed in the nine layers of hell will die completely. The devil who dies outside of Hell will turn into a puddle of foaming, sneaky moving ooze that will last for about 3 to 9 minutes. This remnant of the soul essence manifests a strong power of magic and evil.

Regardless of what happens to its remnants, a slain demon will return to Hell in its original form after 99 years, with full health. This method of teleportation leaves any property the demon carrying, including magical items and belongings, in place, even if they come from the Bato Hell. Depending on the nature of this defeat, the devil may not be punished or may face demotion in the ranks. Devils of lower status are most likely to be demoted.

A layman might think that demons and demons are just different names for the same kind of creatures, but this is only partially true. Both are pure evil beings, and both are the enemies of virtue and morality. Moreover, both creatures take a great interest in mortal affairs, at least to the extent that they plunder, exploit, and even occasionally slaughter mortals with impunity.

But in many important ways, demons are very different from the devil. Demons are natural destroyers, and they use their power to destroy, shatter, and end all things. On the other hand, the devil is the deceiver, the liar, the exaggerant, and the thief who lures mortals to eternal sin. In the process of cajoling a mortal to label his soul, a devil will use any trick.

The devils generally recognize three broad hierarchies. At the bottom are the Lesser Devils, and among the great hordes of Lesser Devils, only a handful of them have been able to escape this extremely humble and pitiful position. Sacrificed by any of their superiors, the low-ranking demons rarely take the opportunity to prove their worth and get promoted.

Above the lower devils are the Lesser Devils, a more elite group that enjoys more autonomy. Through their role in the soul trade, mid-tier demons are often regularly promoted.

Near the top of the ruling system are the higher devils, who occupy positions of authority in the system of hellish power. The most powerful of these are the Pit Fiend, who manage and oversee the demonic forces in every project, from bloody wars to the corruption of entire nations. Below the nine Hell Lords is a group of unique demons known as the Dukes. Scheming or not, any Duke of Hell dreams of one day being able to replace one of the current Hell Lords and rule over some of Barto's realms.

The moment it turns to order and evil, a mortal's soul is destined to hell. According to the final and decisive act of order and evil committed by this mortal, the devil who bears the greatest credit will receive the benefits of the capture of the soul of the former. If this mortal later undergoes some kind of mental transformation and slides into other camps, his soul will no longer be convicted. A devil who likes to keep an eye on everything may notice this loss and return, and hope to induce his former prey to return to his old path of life and regain his soul.

As for some souls who have wavered between different camps during their lifetimes, but still end up in Bato's hell, the benefits will go to the devil who first led the former into temptation. However, the premise is that the means and schemes employed by this devil are the fundamental cause of corruption and depravity that lays down the ultimate condemnation of this soul. This arrangement is much easier and fairer to enforce than any system that requires item-by-item checking, and the devils have always liked to be innocent of their exploits.

In an orderly and wicked society, often before reaching the age of the ability to distinguish between right and wrong, the growing individual takes a decisive step towards depravity and destruction. But a person is destined to be tormented by Bato's hell only if he commits an actual evil act; As a result, lawless and evil societies often use various rites of passage to force young people to commit some kind of evil act in order to achieve adulthood. For example, young males were often assigned to barracks and beaten and tortured weaker boys at the encouragement of others. Such customs and practices usually originate from demonic advisors to local rulers, but they may also arise naturally from a social environment that has long been inclined to evil.

So why does the devil need corrupted souls?

There is a lot of energy hidden in the soul, and it is the only currency in the lower realm...... Although it is also the same in some upper planes.

Throughout the ages, the Devils have been collecting the spirits of Order-Guarding Evil, punishing them, and eventually transforming them into divine energy, all of which derive power from the Primordial Pact.
