Chapter 22: It's None of My Thing
Asa did not believe in heaven or hell.
When he began to indulge in the magical world in the mouth of old adventurers at the age of seven or eight, he thought that the heaven and hell that he often heard about were of the same nature, and they were all new worlds that could be explored and sought by himself. So when the old pastor of the village preached, he inquired out of sheer curiosity.
At first, the old pastor was naturally happy to see a child so interested in theology, but he asked a series of questions that broke the casserole and asked the end with the attitude of exploring animal habits, so that the old pastor could not answer, when he asked why the god only eats and does not, why the male god and the goddess are in the sky for so long but do not give birth to more small gods, whether they are castrated like the pigs at the entrance of the village, and they are beaten away by the adults next to him.
He had never seen any evidence of the existence of these two places, and no one had ever been to Heaven and Hell in the same way that the old adventurer had been to the vast expanse of the outer world, and then came back to explain it to him in detail. So when he woke up, his first realization was that he wasn't dead yet.
He pressed his stomach himself, intact. The muscles are still holding the skin like that, and the internal organs are still where they should be, and they can't be normal anymore. He even felt that his body had never been so energetic.
Could it be that he was dreaming? But the feeling of being knocked away by the red-robed man and spurting blood into the spring water without any suspicion of hallucination, and it was smooth with all the previous memories, without the slightest feeling of confusion and haze in his sleep.
Asa got up from the ground. It's a strange place, it seems to be a tree hole, and it looks like a house. Twisted branches and vines tangle together to form a wall around the perimeter, and where appropriate, the branches grow around themselves, forming windows and doors. Vines stretched out from the walls on either side, entangled and suspended in the air, like a bed, and a few strangely grown trees seemed to serve as tables and stools.
This is supposed to be the residence of the elves. Asa knew about this strange house, and had heard a lot about the elves from the dwarves when he was in his homeland.
Elves live in inaccessible forests, and although they are similar to humans, they do not belong to the same low-level concept of 'sub-humans' as the orcs, and they have a race with their own unique culture and way of life like the dwarves.
It seems that the two races of dwarves and elves are also related by some kind of blood, and the dwarves despise this same race, and usually use elves as a metaphor when ridiculing and mocking others. From their mouths, the elves seemed to be some conformist and self-righteous fools, emotionless and lifeless lumps of wood.
There was a sound of footsteps outside the hut, and two elves walked in.
These are two elves, a man and a woman, the black hair of the man and the silver hair of the woman. At least from the outside, they don't have the slightest smell of wood bumps, and the appearance of the two is very handsome and delicate from a human point of view, tall and tall, with long ears protruding from shoulder-length hair, which makes them even more elegant. It's hard to imagine that they are close relatives of those stocky dwarves.
The male elf said to Asa in a gentle and steady voice, "Hello, human. First of all, I would like to introduce myself, I am the elder of the most noble and pure elven race on this continent, and I am called Klan by you humans. ”
Like the dwarves, they can't tell their age by their looks. Asa had seen a dwarf who was younger than himself but had a large beard, and this elf who looked like a young man was an elder of the clan, perhaps several hundred years old.
Elder Crane pointed to the elven girl next to him, "Her name is Lua. Asa suddenly discovered that she was the elf girl she had seen **** in the spring. Now she was looking at herself with a somewhat emotional look that elves shouldn't have.
Sitting down on the wooden bench, Elder Crane looked at Asa with calm eyes and said, "You are the first human to enter the interior of this forest in nearly five hundred years. We have never welcomed lowly humans, but after all, we have seen you risking your life to help us deal with that dark servant. And for a number of other reasons, we brought you to a place where you humans were not allowed to set foot in the first place. ”
Asa listened quietly as he continued, which was a good misunderstanding.
"Unfortunately, although it was the Servant of Darkness, it was you who broke a very important ritual for us, and let the Servant of Darkness take away a leaf of the World Tree. ”
That's the Leaf of the World Tree. Fortunately, only one was taken away, which means that there are at least two more that have a chance. Asa remained silent, he could now see that it was not something that he could take with him by pleading, and it was better not to reveal his intentions and figure out the situation. He asked, "How many leaves are left on the World Tree?"
The elven girl Lua turned her head away. Although there was no expression on her face, the gesture was already full of contempt. Elder Crane's demeanor and tone did not fluctuate in the slightest, and he still said so gently and calmly, "There is no World Tree. The leaves of the World Tree are not real leaves, they are relics left behind by Marfa, the god of all things. ”
The tree was planted by a man named Fama, and it was a very powerful leaf. Asa remembered Chriss's expert translator and grinned, imaginarily punching her in the face.
"Can you tell me a little bit about the cause and effect of this?" At this point, Asa also wanted to understand everything.
Elder Crane fell silent. Furui Bubo's face was still so gentle, and he silently looked at Asa with undisguised eyes. It was not a scruple due to a powerful relationship, but a hesitation, like a noble lord considering whether or not to show his family tree to a monkey. Thankfully, he did speak up.
"Our elves have been living in this forest since ancient times, the origin of all the elves in the continent, and the messengers who guard the light. For tens of thousands of years, we, along with the entire forest, have guarded the two sacred objects left behind by Marfa, the god of all things, the three leaves of the World Tree and the Sun Well. According to the myths we have left behind, on the southwestern edge of the distant continent, there is an evil creature that has been there since the creation of the gods. When the world begins to be chaotic, it will be opened and sealed, and everything will perish. And only the combination of the divine power of the Sun Well and the life force of the leaves of the World Tree can destroy that evil thing. ”
"Although we have never been in contact with the outside world, other elves from the outside world have been reporting to us. We know that the whole world has begun to be chaotic now, and the situation in which we elves, orcs and nature live in harmony is completely out of balance. It's all because of you humans, you have forgotten your faith in God and your fear of nature, and you have even come to build a city near this sacred forest. You've also ruined the orcs' peaceful lives, and now the remnants of the beasts are about to go crazy with the world. On top of that, there are already humans who are completely attracted to the darkness, and a dark force of death has been generated around the evil thing. ”
"We took advantage of the once-in-a-century golden ring eclipse over this forest to hold a ceremony. At that time, the power of the Sunwell, which was originally constant, will be readjusted and fluctuated, and we will take the most gifted people in the clan to accept this power and prepare to use it against the darkness together with the leaves of the World Tree. But unfortunately, that was also the time when the sunwell lost its power to protect this forest. We don't know why the servants of darkness knew about it. He took this opportunity to disrupt our ritual. ”
"You know the final result, the servant of darkness has taken a leaf of the World Tree. Just as our ritual was about to be completed, you were seriously injured and fell into the Well of the Sun, and the power of the well automatically flowed into your dying body, and because the water was filled with the breath of life from the leaves of the World Tree, that power was transformed and healed your injuries. ”
"That power was supposed to flow into my body. The girl Lua said in a pitiful tone of pity with a little anger when her pearls were fed to the pigs.
If I hadn't fallen in, the red-robed man would have pulled you out, and most likely he would have dealt with you like that fat pig magistrate. Asa stared at her. Thinking of her **** standing in the well, I suddenly felt that it was difficult to imagine how such a beautiful thing could become an ugly dried corpse.
"Although the ritual has been destroyed, it is not yet completely irreversible. The power of the sunwell should not be consumed, but stay in your body. That divine power cannot be used in your human filthy bodies, and can only be fused with it by our noble bloodline, which has inherited divine power. We must find a way to take this power out and merge with the two remaining leaves of the World Tree, which is our only hope against the darkness. ”
Elder Crane's attitude and tone were calm and steady throughout, but it seemed that it was only the self-righteous temperament that the dwarves said gave him a kind of indiscriminate politeness, and his words made no secret of his contempt for Asa's human identity. "Until then you have to stay here. It is also your duty as a person who has been given life by the sun to fight against darkness and death. And as a lowly human being, you should feel honored to be part of this divine plan. ”
Asa remained silent, only imagining the gesture of a street street rattle to the elf who thought he was superior to him. Do you think you're amazing?
This imposing remark did not have any effect on the original structure of his mind. It was as if I was just listening to a story from a bard.
He had never thought that he had anything to do with the peace of the world of light and darkness, which was too far away from his actual life. Just like the miners in their hometown who are addicted to bad alcohol and prostitutes, when they hear others talk about national affairs, morality and culture, etc., they don't even care whether what you say is true or not, the only thing they can feel is that the speaker thinks he is superior, and he spits on you and cares about me.
But it really doesn't seem to be easy to do, since it's a divine object, it definitely won't be given to a human who is humble in their eyes. Only by slowly figuring out the situation and thinking about it in the long run, Asa asked, "And how long will it take for you to get that power out of my body?"
"I don't know, we have to slowly find a way from ancient books. We've never seen anything like this before. Elder Crane stood up and signaled the end of the conversation. "Although the lifespan of human beings is very short, don't worry, we will find a way to find out as soon as possible before you grow old and die. ”
Asa shook his head and replied slowly, "I'm not worried at all. ”
