Chapter 010: (Darkness Forward)
Under the shaded path of moonlight and starlight, the night looks gloomy, hazy and psychedelic, and the earth seems to be covered by light veil.
A gust of wind blew slowly, the branches swayed, the moonlight and the shadows of the trees shook together, and the mother-in-law danced in a waddle. The branches of the trees swayed in the wind, as if they were about to break free from the trunk and go away with the wind.
Above the woods, in the moonlight, a huge black monster sped past with huge wings. In the faint silver moonlight, a black figure could be faintly seen above the black monster.
The Dark Knight on the back of the griffin drove his mount at its current speed, always at a certain height with the carriage on the ground that was galloping through the wooded paths.
But it seemed that the griffon in the sky was a little disobedient, and the man behind it was helpless, and Ricard could only do his best to drive the griffon he sat down to keep the direction and continue to move forward.
Due to their heavy weight, griffons can't spin and circle as lightly as birds, but can still do quite a bit of aerial tricks without a rider.
Few creatures possess the griffon's hunting skills. With speed, dexterity, and natural claws, griffons swoop through the air to prey.
It can fly in any weather and also has the instinct to sense changes in the weather. One of the reasons why the griffon is so difficult to tame is that it has a strong confidence in its own air and will not accept unreasonable orders from its riders.
"Tormond," the boy in the back seat of the carriage looked up at the dark shadow in the sky. "Do you believe that there are other intelligent beings in this world besides us?" a small red squirrel crunched on the boy's shoulder.
Beside the boy was a boxy iron cage fastened with ropes, and two well-behaved little hyenas were kept in the cage. The puppies were lying quietly on their stomachs, perhaps because the bumps along the way had made them no longer in the mood to fight.
"You see, the legendary giant hyenas, griffons, and dark knights of the Eastern continent around us," Tormund said without looking back. "So I believe that there must be other creatures in this world. β
"Is there really mysterious magic in this world?" the boy asked expectantly. "And the dragons and giants of the old tales. β
The chubby, short middle-aged man driving the carriage replied slowly, "All unknowns have to be seen to be convincing, aren't they?"
"Even if someone sees a real dragon, will anyone really believe what he says?" Iris asked.
"It depends on whether this man's words are worth believing or not," added Tomund as his voice landed. "At the same time, can you gain the trust of others!"
"Isn't that a contradiction?" asked Iris, confused. "If this person is trustworthy, why should he be trusted?"
"An honest man should believe what he says, yes!" replied Tormund with a serious face. But when it comes to something unknown, it's like seeing a dragon, and even an honest person can't be trusted by others. β
"What kind of person can be trusted by others?" the boy became more and more curious, and he seemed to have forgotten what he had meant to talk about, but wanted to get to the bottom of the word 'trust'.
Tomund was a little impatient with the question. "For example, the words of a knight or noble lord can be trusted by the majority of people. He said with a frown. "Even if they tell a lie, some people don't want to believe it, but they definitely don't refute it. β
"What if it's an ordinary peasant?" asked Iris.
"Maybe people will take him as a joke. Giant Buster grinned.
The boy thought about it seriously and muttered, "Why are you the same person, but you don't get the same trust." β
"Boy, this is the difference between the nobility and the commoners," Tormund emphasized. "You should be glad that you were born into the most powerful family in the southern provinces, and not the child of a peasant. "It's going to be a hell of a problem, and the Giant Buster is about to have a seizure.
"But as you said, this is also my misfortune. Iris reminded the other.
"We should talk about it differently, I don't think we need that between us. Tormund frowned, and turned to stare at the boy with some annoyance.
The boy looked at Tormund and turned around, he hesitated for a moment, then suddenly gritted his teeth, and boldly asked, "Bearded, do you trust me?
"Of course, boy!" Thomund patted the boy on the head. "Even if I doubt anyone, I will not doubt every word you say...... Truth. β
"For what?"
Tomund showed a hint of interest in the question. "Because you have both, an honest and kind boy and a noble young master," the bearded gaze fell on the boy. "I have no reason not to trust you, not to trust you. β
Iris said with a happy face, "I believe in you too. Ever since the day they were attacked in the woods that night, the boy had unreservedly trusted the bearded Virginian in front of him.
A person who can protect himself regardless of life and death is the most trustworthy person in the world. The boy was convinced of this.
"Oh, what an honor it is!" said Tormond's happy smile, as if he had picked up a dinar. "I think we've been talking about this for too long, so let's get back to business!"
"Straight to the point?"
"Haven't you always liked to discuss magic as a subject?" Tormund reminded.
Iris shook her head and didn't answer. He wondered whether he should continue to hold on to his dream or give up on this unrealistic fantasy. As my father said, there is no magic in this world.
He had only learned a brief description of magic in an old book, but not in more detail. And even Master Marco, who has lived for hundreds of years, denies the existence of magic in this world, who else can prove its existence?
The carriage still galloped through the woodsβthe moonlight in the sky showed them the wayβthe griffons in the moonlight escorted them.
"If you're sleepy, you can sleep in the carriage for a while. Tormund turned back to the boy.
The boy questioned. "Why do we have to travel in the dark and sleep in the day?"
"To hide the track," Tormund explained to the boy. "If Rickard Harnesses a griffon, flying in the sun, I'm afraid it won't be long before those who want to harm you will be able to tell us where we are. β
"But even if we were to travel in the dark and silent night, there was still danger all around us, wasn't we?" Iris looked warily at the shadows that swayed around the woods, knowing that it was only the back of a tree trunk blown by the wind, but it still terrified him.
"Are you scared?" asked Tormond. There was no usual mockery in his tone, but a hint of concern.
"Nope. The boy flatly denied it.
"No, you're afraid, you're afraid of the dark," Tormund pointed out. "Every night when you go to sleep, you hide under the covers and huddle up in a ball. β
"I'm just used to it, it doesn't mean I'm scared. The boy replied stubbornly.
"The darkness is not scary," Tormund gave the boy a modest smile. "It's scary that there is no courage and conviction to challenge it!"
"Yes, I'm scared. Iris eventually admitted. He said I was an honest person, so I shouldn't have lied. "Yes...... What am I going to do?"
"Find the light that illuminates the darkness, it will accompany you through the fear and loneliness of the darkness!
"I don't understand!"
"You'll understand!"
At that moment, the griffon swooped down toward the galloping carriage on the ground, and the rider on its back pulled desperately at the reins tied to the griffon's thick neck, trying to make the disobedient griffon change direction, but in vain.
Although griffons can hunt a wide variety of food, they still have a peculiar attachment to horses. The young griffon didn't care if there was a rider on horseback, or the sword or arrow that the horseman's keeper struck at it.
Older griffons, on the other hand, are much more cautious and will not hesitate to attack unsuspecting mustangs, but may abandon an attack against a whole team of knights, unless due to hunger, stupidity, arrogance, or lack of experience in fighting warriors.
"Bearded," Iris shouted anxiously as he looked at the approaching black monster. "It's coming at us. β
"Damn it, Rickard," the Giant Buster roared at the black shadow on the black monster's back with his loud voice. "What are you doing? Order this stupid monster to fly," he warned. "Otherwise, I'm going to shoot it down. β
"I can't control it, jump off the carriage quickly!" Rickard's helpless voice came from the back of the black monster.
"Boy, give me that iron cage and jump down, quick. Tormond hurriedly urged.
What he had just said was only to scare Rickard, or the monster that swooped down on them, but apparently the other party didn't buy it. The Giant Buster doesn't have that ability, and with just one arrow, he can shoot a sky overlord to the ground.
