Chapter 14: Earth Spirits

On the outskirts of Sweetwater Town, under the remaining veins of Longji Mountain

"We've searched every piece of land in the vicinity. Are you sure the cave is around here?" Hahn complained to Jack as he sat on a raised rock.

"I don't know exactly where that entrance is, but it should be here. "Monkey," said dejectedly. The group had wasted half a day here looking for the entrance to the cave, but so far they had found nothing.

"Maybe you're mistaken, maybe the entrance to the cave isn't here. The proprietress said. She also gave up searching. Mona, the warrioress, did not speak, but she nodded in agreement as Elsa spoke.

"But that's what I remember hearing......" Jack clutched his head in agony.

"Maybe your dad just bragged about it, and he didn't know where the entrance to the cave was. Hahn said.

Jack was about to refute, but the female warrior spoke first.

"Okay, if you can't find it, you can't find it, although it has been delayed for some time, it should be too late to go to Canyon City. The female warrior said as she prepared to get up, but at that moment, Cheese, who had not spoken all this time, suddenly spoke.

"Found the entrance to the cave. The mage stood up and walked in one direction. Leaving the other four people to look at each other, after all, Cheese had been sitting in place since the first time he started searching the cave. Elsa and they only became mages because of their injuries and limited physical strength, who would have thought that he was the only one among the five who found something.

"Didn't he just sit here?" asked Jahn in a whisper.

"yes, I don't think he even moved a single step just now. The "wild boar" also wondered.

Mona and the proprietress didn't speak, just followed behind Cheese. Mona was a bit of a reticent person, and many times the warrior preferred execution to discussion. The proprietress had seen all kinds of magical spells cast by the cheese when she was in the town, and she had an inexplicable confidence in the cheese's ability.

Soon, the group came to a rock wall, and a small stream flowed from the bottom of the rock wall, and followed the terrain into a larger stream of water in the distance. Other than that, the surroundings seem to be no different from the neighborhood. Just as Hahn was about to exit and ask where the mage's entrance was, there was a sudden noise in the grass beside him.

"Who!" the three Frost Guards quickly drew their weapons, sandwiching Cheese and Elsa in between, the three of them on guard in three directions. And with the shouting of the "wild boar", the movement in the grass quickly disappeared.

"Put the weapon down, you're scared of it. Cheese said with a frown, and as he reached out and pressed down the broadblade in Mona's hand, he took the initiative to step out of the protective circle of the three warriors, approaching the grass that had just made a noise.

"Wait ......" Hahn and Jake tried to stop Cheese, but Elsa and Mona pressed them down, because from their point of view, they could vaguely see what was in the grass.

The thing seemed to have mustered up its courage when it saw Cheese leave the crowd and Mona put away their weapons, and after waiting for a while to find that they were indeed not hostile, he finally walked out of the grass on his own.

What is this? Elsa and the other four couldn't believe their eyes as they saw a creature that looked like a human child coming out of the grass. It has earthy green skin, is clothed in a garment made of leaves, and is about the waist of an average adult. Its facial features resemble those of a human child, except for a large, somewhat funny nose and a long green hair on the top of its head, which is visible to be washed, and dotted with a dewy wildflower.

The creature cautiously stepped out of the grass like a young beast leaving a cave for the first time, and it looked at the proprietress with its grayish-brown eyes, as if to see if they were a threat. Elsa noticed that the creature had no whites in its eyes, and that its entire eyes were like a grayish-brown pebble.

"Rest assured, they won't hurt you. (Unknown)" Cheese cautiously walked up to the creature, spitting out a language he had never heard before. At the same time, he motions for others to be quiet behind his back.

The creature shook its head for a moment, and then seemed to be wary at last, and it chirped at the cheese for a while, gesturing with its hands. The proprietress guessed that it was the same language as Cheese. In the creature's call, Cheese would occasionally interject and ask for some details in the previous language, and then the little guy would respond with a twitter after thinking for a while.

In this way, under the watchful eyes of the remaining four people, Cheese and the creature chatted for a short time, and judging by the mage's expression, he should have gotten the information he wanted from the other party. So before the exchange ended, he took out a bag from his cloak, poured out a few fruits that Elsa had never seen before, and handed them to the creature. The creature let out a cry of pleasure and quickly shoved the fruit from Cheese's hand into its mouth. The mage smiled, then handed the entire bag to the other party. Small cheers came from the grass around them, and Elsa and the others were surprised to find that there were so many such little creatures hiding in the grass around them. The little creature who had come out to talk to the cheese was also very happy when he got the bag, and it let out a shrill scream, and the proprietress guessed that it was calling for a companion, for soon the little ones in the grass jumped out of the grass and went to the bag to ask for fruit. The little creature talking to the cheese seemed to be the leader of the group, and it distributed the fruits one by one, and looked very serious, but because of its image, that serious look made people laugh.

"These are land spirits, and they live in forests and valleys. For them, the nearby caves are as familiar as their own backyards. Cheese walked back to the crowd and said.

"You mean, they know where the entrance to the cave is?" asked Mona.

According to them, the townspeople had indeed moved into the cave in the previous month, and they said that they had blown up the entrance to the neighborhood because of the huge rats that kept attacking them. The mage nodded and said.

"And how are we going to get in? The townsfolk probably didn't plan to come out anytime soon, they emptied the entire town's food reserves, which was enough for them to consume until at least spring. Hahn asked.

"Don't worry, our new friends say they know some entrances that humans don't know, and as their friends, they're happy to take us over to our kind. The mage said with a smile.

Soon, the land elves ate up the gifts given by their friends, and then under the leadership of the leader, the same land elf who was talking to Cheese, a whole group of land elves surrounded Cheese and the others towards what they called the secret passage.

"It's hard to imagine that I've never seen a creature like this before. Elsa looked at the land elves around her and whispered.

"It's just a bunch of timid little guys who like to be boisterous. They actually often observe humans entering their living quarters. It's just that because I'm afraid of life, I only dare to watch from afar. The mage said.

"And how do you know about them, is this also one of your mage courses?" asked the proprietress curiously.

"Not really, although some mages like to raise land spirits for simple tasks, they rarely interact with them. Land goblins have a high level of intelligence, and they can understand human language, but they are unable to pronounce it due to their physiology. As for how I got to know them so well, it's a bit of a long story, so I'll talk about it when I have time. Cheese replied.

Following the mage's explanation, the rest of the team soon realized that these land spirits were very kind creatures, they were simply happy and carefree, because of their affinity for plants and land, which was difficult for hungry nezumi to detect. So even under the ravages of the plague, these land spirits still live happily. Being surrounded by such a group of pistachios, the tense nerves of the members of the team were temporarily relieved. There were more or less long-lost smiles on their faces.
