Chapter 404: Contradictions
At the main table in the box, next to a pillar decorated with bunches of spices and garlic, sat a dwarf with bulging cheeks and curly hair. Pen & Fun & Pavilion www.biquge.info was wearing a pale green vest, holding a wooden spoon in his right hand, and he was constantly observing the surface of the spoon through the moonlight. There was a sudden knock on the door, causing the dwarf to panic for a momentβhe almost dropped the wooden spoon on the ground. "Who?" he asked tentatively.
There was no response, which made him wary. The only thing left outside the box seemed to be the crow of a crow, which made the dwarf a little nervous. He walked slowly to the door, pulling open the wooden strip embedded in the door to form a rectangular observation hole. He cast his gaze away from the observation hole, but he didn't see anyone. "Maybe it's just my hallucination......" he retracted his head and muttered to himself.
However, at this moment, the knock on the door sounded again like a demon descending. The dwarf, who was so close to the door of the box, fell to the ground in fright this time, and the wooden spoon in his hand finally fell on the carpet of the box. When he stood up in shock and looked out through the observation hole, he still didn't see a single person. This made him suspect that it was a hell prank, and he yelled. "Mischievous bastard, when I find you, I'll peel you off and sell it on the black market!"
The wooden door collapsed as if it had been struck by a heavy object, and the dwarf was knocked to the ground along with the heavy cross. The figures of Dominic and Evie appeared in the doorway, and the chill on the former's face made the dwarf shiver when he looked up. "Hello, Mr. Dwarf, it looks like you're doing something special here. Dominic crouched down, looked at the dwarf, and sneered.
"Who are you?" the dwarf asked in alarm, as he subconsciously crawled backwards.
Dominic didn't bother with his actions and continued. "Well, what would you do if I were to say someone who could keep you in a Principality prison for the rest of your life?"
"Oh, shit!" the dwarf scrambled to his feet, trying to escape through the secret passage in the box. Unfortunately, Dominic wouldn't give him a chance, and with the swing of the cross, the dwarf was once again smashed to the ground.
"That's enough, Dominic. Evie stopped Dominic, who clearly wanted to make up for it, but his powerful blow could have killed the weak dwarf.
"Good luck bastard......" Dominic muttered, tying the cross back behind him.
"Get up, dwarves. Evie walked over to the dwarf and whispered.
The dwarf rolled over, his mouth wide open, his big brown eyes revealing endless fear. "I ...... I didn't do anything...... I beg you to ......"
"God will sanction your ......," Evie murmured, then reached out and gestured out of the box. "Mr. Boken, you can take him. β
Boken, who had been waiting outside the box for a long time, waved his hand, and the two Duchy guards behind him immediately rushed into the box and tied up the dwarf. In his exclamation, the two escorted him out of the box, who had been tied into a twist.
"Good luck, dwarf. Dominic beckoned to the dwarf as if to say goodbye to him. This undoubtedly put a greater burden on the dwarf's heart, but before he could cry, the guards who always tried to use the simplest and most brutal way knocked him unconscious. In order to prevent that guy from alarming the gangster strongholds and other black merchants not far away, these are all objects that the principality needs to deal with gradually.
"It was a lot easier than I expected. After watching the dwarf be loaded into the carriage, Dominic couldn't help but speak.
"What do you mean?" asked Evie.
"Just give the people here a little money and they'll tell us about it. But can you believe it? It's ridiculous that a dwarf has come all the way from the Dark City to sell children. Dominic looked disdainful.
"It is disrespectful to God and the greatest insult to people to do anything ugly and sinful for the benefit of those who are not favored by God. Evie whispered, not angry, but endless pity, pity for these poor creatures.
Dominic snorted coldly, "Hmph, the kindness to them is really the greatest favor that the gods have bestowed upon them. He took a step back on the road back to Hutton Marr Cathedral. Evie looked at his back and let out a sigh from within.
Dominic has always rejected Boken's offer to use money to extract information. He doesn't want to have too much contact with the gods in the backstreets, and he has a wrong idea about things, which is a headache for Evie and Golantis. He wanted a more direct way - like hiding directly in their trading place, and then arresting those guys or redeeming their souls. But it is clear that it would be unwise to do so when the real mastermind has not shown up for a long time.
Evie didn't have any more ways to change Dominic's mind, which is why Golantis kept her with Dominic from time to time. But the latter doesn't think there's anything wrong with his approach, although that doesn't mean he doesn't know how to absorb other opinions, otherwise conflict is inevitable.
At the end of the day, Evie sees Dominic as a contradiction. She didn't know how this guy had passed the Order's test to become a clergyman, perhaps some people had lost their eyes at first. Although she tried her best to avoid similar thoughts, it was difficult for Dominique not to think about it every time. It's hard to admit something you don't want to admit, and everyone does.
"I have a question, Lord Golantis. Dominic propped his hands on the table and said to Golantis, who was sitting behind his desk reading the report.
Golantis looked up and smiled. "Say it, Dominic. β
"Boken's approach isn't necessarily the right thing, first of all, if we go to the backstreet tonight and catch a child seller, then there's a good chance that we'll be alarmed. At that point, it will not be easy for us to pull them out of the shadows. β
"That's a problem, what do you think, Evie?" Golantis smiled and nodded, then turned her gaze to Evie standing on the side of the table - she was reading the teachings, and she didn't usually meddle too much in the arguments between Dominic and Golantis.
Evie closed the teachings and tucked them into the bookcase on her white robe, which was designed to hold the teachings. "There's some truth to Dominic's words, but I don't think they're going to give up their business just because a few of their peers have been arrested. They may be more cautious, or they may be as blatant in the dead of night as they always are. After all, it was a normal thing for them to arrest people from the back streets of the principality, because they themselves knew in their hearts that there were no completely clean people there. β
"Can you accept Evie's idea?" said Golantis, returning his gaze to Dominic's and smiling.
Dominic was stunned, he hadn't reacted for a short time. But it didn't take long for him to realize that this was Golantis' usual method, that she had many of the same ideas as Evie, and that she was half of Evie's guide. "I think so, but as before, I'll keep my thoughts. β
"It's everyone's right. β
"Of course, but I still want you to tell me why Boken did it. Dominic turned to the two for answers.
This time, Golantis took the initiative to answer, "Quite simply, although you investigated that alley, it doesn't mean that that alley is their fixed trading location. And the last time you went there, you didn't find a lot of useful information, did you? I suppose that compared to this inefficient investigation, Borken's idea was to extract information from the mouths of those involved in this dirty deal. β
"I see, thank you, Lord Golantis. Dominic's hands left the oak table and looked at the multicolored window with a slightly deep gaze.
