Section 44 The Song of Return
Ten people were divided into two teams. Pen ~ Fun ~ Pavilion www.biquge.info Sarn, Ngil, and Serena plan to return to Shadingherr to rebuild the shelter and invite Aruman to accompany them. Rex was unable to go back with them because he had to complete the Dragon's Roar, so he had Wille and Artis follow Tsarn.
Odom, on the other hand, was determined to follow Rex to the monastery. So, together with Caterina and Babas, he prepared to return to Mount Hrosga.
After breakfast, the two teams were about to set off. When they were separated, Sahn and Serena walked up to Rex, and he smiled and said, "Rex, you have to remember that no matter where you go or what you do in the future, don't forget who you are. Shatinhull will always be your home, we are your relatives, don't forget to go home!"
Sarn's hand patted him on the shoulder. Rex said enthusiastically, "In my heart, you will always be good brothers and sisters. β
The three of them held hands, you look at me, I look at you, and suddenly laughed. This game of commitment reinforces their affection for each other.
"Come back when you're done, we'll be waiting for you at the shelter. Serena admonished.
"Well, I promise, I'll go back as soon as I'm done learning Dragonroar. Rex said.
Serena nodded, and then looked at Caterina behind her, "Rex will leave it to you, Miss Carter." β
Caterina smiled brightly, "Don't worry, sister." I'll take good care of him. β
After the two teams gave each other some more instructions, they mounted their horses and went their separate ways. Sarn's team headed west, with the ultimate aim of returning to Shadinghull. Rex's team headed north to Mount Hrosga.
The sun shone through the swaying mountain forests, and the birds chirped along the way, and they hurried happily in the direction of Mount Hrosga.
It wasn't until it was dark and a row of gray wooden walls appeared in front of me that I stopped to camp. The surrounding dark and secluded forest was like a ghost, shivering and wailing in the cold wind, eerie and terrifying. In the starry night sky, there are occasionally a few heart-pounding wolf howls.
The next morning, after getting up, they planned to enter the village. From the sign at the intersection, it is known that the village in front of it is called Buried Bone Town, which is under the jurisdiction of Morrowind and is located in an area west of the Gikar Plain. As soon as they arrived outside the village, they met the elven guards. With the captain's permission, the four of them stepped into the village.
At the entrance to the village, they saw a warrior-looking Nord man tied up, kneeling on the ground with his head bowed, and was being tried by the captain of the guard. The execution ground was surrounded by a crowd of onlookers, disorderly, chaotic and crowded.
"What's wrong with this town, it doesn't look peaceful. Odom said, looking at the crowd.
"Hey, we're just passing through, don't get into trouble. Barbas advised him.
"Bless Bella, I hope they are safe. Caterina said.
"Wait, I'll go and find out. With that, Rex turned and dismounted, and walked towards a homeless man leaning against the post of the tavern.
The homeless man was a balding Nord man, who looked to be in his forties, with a haggard complexion, gray skin, high and convex cheekbones, and a blue eyeball in his right eye, which at first glance was known to be caused by disease. He wore a tattered piece of studded armor and dirty iron shoes on his feet. Rex greeted him, he glanced back lazily, and said slowly, "Oh, it turned out to be a damn elf, welcome to hell." β
"Hey, nice to meet you, friend. What's going on at the entrance of the village?" Rex asked respectfully.
"I don't want to be rude, Elf. The homeless man said impatiently, "I don't think there's anything I can do to help you." β
The homeless man's attitude was rude, but it didn't embarrass Rex, and he smiled and said, "Perhaps, this one can help." β
He tucked a gold coin between his fingers and shook it in front of the homeless man, "I think it will solve your dinner today." β
The homeless man's eyes lit up, his eyes fixed on the gold coin, and he immediately became enthusiastic. He grinned and said, "Ask as much as you like, friend, if you want to know anything, I will tell you without reservation." β
"What's going on here?" asked Rex.
"In a murder case, the mercenary Lord killed the maid of the Skull Tavern, Kalia. With that, the homeless man pointed to the sign behind him.
"Oh, why did he kill her?" asked Rex.
"Money!" said the homeless man, with a relaxed expression, "this damned mercenary, a messenger of death, he will do this sooner or later." Ever since he first approached the woman, I had seen through his purpose. He only wants her money, not affection. β
"So, he killed his mistress?" Rex asked, frowning.
"That's right. β
"Just to get the gold?"
The homeless man smiled contemptuously, "Exactly. Lord was a bad gambler, in debt, and had been fighting to get by. He'd wanted to do it for a long time to pay off his debts, and now he's finally done. β
"He's not afraid of legal punishment?"
The homeless man sneered, "The law? Oh, brother. It's hell here, there's no law!"
Rex looked at him puzzled.
"There's only power here!" added the homeless man, seeing his confusion, "and now that I've told you all I know, what about the reward?"
Rex tossed the coin to him.
"Good luck, young elf. If you're in the mood for a good drink, stop by the tavern for a drink. With that, he turned and disappeared behind the tavern curtain.
Rex was about to go back to his companion when an old woman stopped him and led him to a secluded, hidden alley, and whispered a threat, "I know who you are! I hope you don't refuse, otherwise, I will tell the guards your identity. How's it going, Septin Rex!"
Rex felt a pang in his heart and said in a friendly tone, "I don't want to cause trouble, how do you want me to help?"
The old woman slowly took off her hat and veil, revealing her true face. Her face was wrinkled, her cheeks were loose and saggy, and her lips were covered in black spots. The eyes are surrounded by many folds, the eyes are dull without a trace of luster, and the face is full of freckles. But the hair was thick and black, curly and hanging down from the top of the head, like a waterfall.
She looked lonely, and her eyes contained sadness. He smiled slightly at Rex and said, "My name is Tuyana, and I'm Kalia's mother. The guard said Lord killed my daughter, but I don't believe it, I don't think that's the truth. Lord was her fiancΓ©, and he loved her so much that he would never do such a thing. The guards lied to me, and the real culprit was covered up. I beg you to find the real culprit and save the poor child. β
"So, you know Lorde?" Rex asked.
"Very well understood. He was kind and a good boy. Everyone wronged him. Tuyana sighed.
The old man's eyes were sincere, his tone was sincere, Rex's heart softened, and he said happily, "Okay, I promise you, find out the real murderer and return his innocence!"
The old woman kissed Rex's hand excitedly, thanking her non-stop.
In order to help Tuyana find out the truth, they decided to stay for a short time. After depositing your horse in the stable, head to the Skull Tavern. The tavern is quite large, with a dozen or so guest tables neatly arranged in the living room. There are all kinds of liquor on display at the counter, and every drinker will be overjoyed when they see it.
At this time, the living room was crowded with customers for lunch. There is also a singer who stands in the aisle and sings with a truqin. The tavern has a mixed clientele, all kinds of professions, all kinds of people, regardless of race or status, and talking about murder while eating.
Rex is determined to start investigating from here. The four of them had just taken their seats at a square table against the wall, when an elven maid came to them, her slender figure and sweet voice, and introduced herself, "Welcome, my name is Tarot Lenna, and I am the maid of this tavern, please let me know if you want something, and I will serve you." β
After the four of them had ordered the wine and food, Tarot Lenna bent down to thank them and was about to leave, but Rex kept her, "If you don't mind, we want to talk to you about the killing of Kalia." β
A hint of surprise flashed across Tarot Lena's face, and she smiled stunned, "Could it be that the four are the Inspectors sent by the King?"
They nodded silently, "The murder of the girl in Bone Town has attracted the attention of the king, and we have been sent to investigate the matter. Please keep it confidential, understand? Caterina warned.
Tarot Lena nodded quickly.
"We ask you questions, and you just have to answer them truthfully, okay?" Mr. Babbas said.
Knowing their identities, the maid's face became serious, and her voice and expression changed, and it was noticeably not so smooth. A little trembling said, "Yes, I know." β
"What do you think of Kalia's killing?" asked Barbas.
"It was Lord who did it, and the mercenary often came to the tavern for drinks, and his relationship with her seemed to be very ambiguous. Tarot Lena replied.
"So, are they lovers?" asked Katarina.
"I'm sorry, I don't know," Tarot Lenna denied, "Actually, we've only known each other for a short time. β
"You saw Lord kill with your own eyes?" asked Caterina again.
She shook her head.
"And how can you be sure he's the murderer?" asked Barbas her.
"That's what the bulletin of the guard says, I believe in those in power. Tarot Lena replied.
"Okay, so what do you think his motive was for killing her?" Rex asked.
"Maybe it's for the money. Tarot Lena whispered.
"Money?" asked Babas.
"Yes, Kalia has a secret chest full of countless precious diamonds. I guess Lord wanted to get it and killed Kalia. Tarot Lena said.
"Kill her for money?" asked Babas again.
"That's why, I guess. "If you want to know more details, maybe the captain can help you." β
"Okay, got it. Thank you for your cooperation. Rex said to her.
"Everyone, please take your time. After Tarot Lena said softly, she bent back and turned to leave.
"Exactly the same as the homeless man's statement, it is clear that this is murder for money. I'm sure Lorde is the murderer. Caterina judged.
"Could it be that the old woman is lying?" Rex expressed doubt.
"Yes, yes, maybe she has ulterior motives to take advantage of us. Odom said with food in his mouth.
Rex smiled slightly and said, "Since someone is lying, it means that there is the truth, let's find the truth!"
While they were eagerly discussing how to investigate, a detachment of guards crept up around the tavern, guarding the front and back doors. Several officer-like elves, dressed in golden armor, lifted the curtain hanging at the door of the tavern and rushed in quickly, surrounding the four of them.
A captain-like man, holding the sword at his waist, commanded aloud, "Stand up, stranger, suspect that you are behind the murder of Kalia, now I want to arrest you and put you in prison, don't try to resist." β
Before the words fell, all the officers drew their crooked elven swords and held them in their hands.
The captain said, "It's not a coincidence that there was a homicide in the village as soon as you appeared. β
Rex sneered, "Sir, we just arrived, what reason do we have to kill someone?"
"Shut up. An officer scolded, "Without further ado, go back to the prison with us for investigation." β
"Ridiculous, stupid, deserved. Caterina couldn't hold it anymore, jumped up from her seat, jumped in front of the captain-like officer, and tore him up.
The four Rex immediately rose up and fought the officers. In an instant, shouts of murder erupted in the living room, and customers fled to escape the fighting, but there were also many brave guests standing on both sides to watch them fight.
