Section 4 Ron's Recollections
For an entire afternoon, soldiers, hunters, warriors, priests, and nearby villagers sat in taverns drinking and relaxing, reluctant to leave. The captain and his soldiers got up and left, preparing to patrol the forest near the fortress to prevent the robbers from attacking again.
The two hunters had already sold the bag of prey to Ron for a bulging bag of gold coins. The two left the tavern with a satisfied expression. The priest had finally finished reading his book, drank all the milk, and quietly walked out of the tavern door.
The hustle and bustle of the hall fell silent, and the three warriors got up and walked out after their last sip of wine. Rex was the only one in the hall sitting at the counter. The singer Caterina had already started cleaning the living room, and Harsha had gone to the kitchen.
Ron gathered up the finished bottles and glasses and stacked them behind the counter to be cleaned. The barrels on the counter had been emptied, and Ron easily moved it back to the underground warehouse.
Rex looked around drunkenly, and when he saw that the guests in the hall were all gone, he said to Ron, "Boss, please give me a clean ... , the room!"
Ron said as he straightened out the ledger in his hand, "Young man, you're drunk. As you wish, rest here today. He took out a key and handed it to Rex, "Here, take it, it's the key." The first room on the left side of the stairs is yours, so get some rest. β
"Well... Okay!" Rex said sluggishly, reaching for the key but grabbing it empty, repeating it several times without success.
Ron shook his head helplessly and sighed, "Come on, young man, I'll show you the room." He stepped out from behind the counter and headed up the stairs.
Rex reacted slowly, swaying from side to side, and followed Ron up to the second floor step by step.
He was tired and lonely, and soon fell asleep as he lay in bed. By the time he woke up, it was already the next morning. The sun shone in through the gaps in the gray printed curtains, illuminating the wooden walls and carpeted floors. The room looked like such a bright little place, with a four-legged table and a stool stacked with a few worn-out books next to the crude wooden bed. There was also a large wooden box in the corner, which was not locked despite the locks on it. Presumably, it was used for storing clothes for guests.
Rex, who had slept well, was in good spirits, and the austere style and serene surroundings of the room had a strong influence on him. For him, he thought, a good time in his life was beginning. Although there are long journeys and toils, there are also adventures and thrills. Due to the change in the scene, Rex's senses are awakened, and the organs of his whole body are fully activated.
He got up and carefully dressed. Wipe the armor clean and bright to make yourself more suitable for this outfit. Armed with his short sword, he pushed open the door and walked out of the small room.
Walking through the short hallway, he walked downstairs in good spirits. Seeing that Ron was already in business at the counter, he stepped forward to greet him. When Ron saw him coming over, he also greeted him warmly, "Why, it's already up." Do you sleep well at night?"
Rex stretched his waist and said, "Maybe I was too tired from the journey yesterday, and I had no dreams all night, and I slept very comfortably." β
"What do you think of the Hunter's Tavern?" Ron asked.
Rex told him, "I like it so much, it's comfortable and quiet. β
"Yes," he said, "the fortress of Figoro is a beautiful place, and I don't want it to be a mess because of the bandits, and I intend to spend the rest of my life here, and pray that it will be safe and secure." β
"You can rest assured that with the protection of the captain and the soldiers, nothing will happen to the tavern. "Besides, it's everyone's favorite place to visit, and no one wants it to be hurt." β
"I hope so," Ron sighed, "Here, try old Ron's malt bar, the secret special brew is no worse than the dragon's breath." With that, he handed over a cup. Rex took the wine glass and held it in his hand, and smelled a faint aroma of wheat coming to his face, the pale yellow wine was crystal clear, and he took a sip full of aroma. He couldn't help but exclaim, "Great, I didn't expect the ale to be so good! Can you tell me, how did you do it?"
Ron smiled proudly, "Ordinary malt wine is brewed with aged wheat, and the taste is naturally not good. My malt wine is different, using green barley from Pejilla Farms as the raw material, and then adding a secret koji to ferment for three days to achieve the refreshing taste it is now. If it is left for a longer time, the flavor of the wine will become stronger, but it will also become spicy and pungent, and it will no longer be so mellow. β
He took the barrels full of wine out of the cellar and neatly arranged them on the counter so that he didn't have to run up and down when the guests needed to change the wine.
Rex stood beside him, and suddenly remembered to find Babas, so he asked him, "Sir, you have lived in Skyrim for so long, I wonder if you have heard of a legend about the guardianship of the demon god?"
Ron was stunned for a moment and asked rhetorically, "What legend?"
"A very mysterious, very old story. I've listened to other people's stories, and I'm not sure if it really existed. Rex had a peeping expression that was very mysterious.
Seeing that he was so suspenseful, Ron stopped what he was doing, walked over and asked, "What kind of legend is it, tell me about it." Maybe I know a little bit about it!"
"Alright!" said Rex, "have you heard of the legend of the goddess of wisdom, the demon dog Babas?"
"Barbas, the demon dog?" Ron looked at Rex's face with wide eyes, as surprised as if he had discovered a new world.
"Yes!" replied Rex.
Ron stared at the young man in front of him, confused by him, unable to figure out his purpose, and asked in a questioning tone, "Who are you, what is your purpose, why do you want to find that ominous thing?"
"I'm so sorry I forgot to tell you my name, my name is Rex. "Searching for its existence is what I'm here for, and I want to find it as my companion, because I have an important task that I need its help to accomplish." Unfortunately, though, I didn't have a clue about it, and I wanted to try my luck when I came to the Empire. β
"Oh!" Ron said in understanding of his actions. "But if you search for it like this, I don't think you will be able to achieve your wish. Maybe I can give you some clues, but it's up to your luck and wisdom to find it. β
"So you know where it is?" Rex's eyes lit up, and he asked eagerly.
"Uh... Well," Ron patted his bare head and thought for a moment, before he said, "I don't know, to be exact. Demon dogs are inherently mysterious, and it's been hundreds of years since they last appeared, so I don't know where they can be. β
"Soβthen how can you still give me a clue?" Rex was a little excited.
"Hear me out first, okay?" said Ron.
"Okay, you go ahead and talk about it. β
"I remember thirty years ago, when I was a young caretaker of the library in White Horse, and during a book relocation, I found a copy of the journal of the late troubadour Planck, The Devil's Best Friend, which recorded the history of the goddess of wisdom, Klaas Lily, and her demon dog, Barbas, uniting the nine demon gods to fight against Deathwing and save humanity. β
"Oh, what's in the diary?"
Ron scratched his smooth head again and said, "According to the diary, in the spring of 396 A.D., the otherworldly dragon Deathwing Alduin led the dragon legions to invade the Skyrim continent, destroying villages and cities and slaughtering all living things. The cities of the Empire, the Falling Hammer, the Storm, and the High Rock were all destroyed and almost in ruins. Ordinary humans were powerless to resist the Demon Dragon Legion, and in order to survive, everyone began to flee in all directions, leaving their hometown or country. Even so, many people were slaughtered by the dragons. β
"Isn't there anyone who can kill those dragons?"
"Of course ordinary humans can't, even with the most powerful warriors in the Empire, there is no way to fight them. The dragons spew out flames that can burn everything. Rex noticed that Ron's eyes were a little moist at this point, and his eyes became melancholy and sad.
"So, does humanity have only the fate of fleeing?" Rex couldn't help but ask.
"It's understandable. Later, in order to protect humanity from being exterminated by Alduin, the nine demon gods living in the sky united to form the Division of Justice, and fought fiercely against the dragon army led by Alduin on the top of the world, and the demon dog Barbas also participated in the war with the demon gods, and they fought back and forth for thirteen days and nights before finally defeating Deathwing Alduin and driving him and his legion back to warped space. After peace was restored to the Sky Continent, the demon gods returned to their temples. Strangely, though, Barbas did not return to the goddess of wisdom. Planck's diary speculates that it died in that war. β
"Why? Doesn't it have immortality!" Exx shouted in disbelief in his ears.
Old Ron sighed and said slowly, "Whether you believe it or not, that's what the diary speculates." So for a long time, everyone thought it was dead. β
"How could this be, that's a shame. Rex looked frustrated.
"You don't have to be discouraged, there are no absolutes. Ron patted the young man on the shoulder, "Some hunters say that they have seen a fierce black wolf appear in Graybeard's monastery, and I guess Barbas is still alive, and the black wolf is his real body." β
"Y-Are you telling the truth!" Rex jumped up excitedly.
"I think the hunters' words should be true, not to mention that Mount Hrosga was the battlefield of the past. Try your luck at the monastery, maybe you can find it!"
Rex hugged Ron's shoulder and thanked him constantly, he was overjoyed and in a good mood. At that moment, he decided to go to the mountains of Hrosga to find the demon god to protect him.
At this time, the singer standing in the corner looked at them suspiciously, with a strange smile on the corner of her mouth.
